Very inferior,August 11, 2009
By Califrunnerfrom Ridgecrest, CA
"I should have believed the reviews, but some of them were positive. There was a bad odor, small pieces came off in my hands when I touched it, the "firm" backing was very thin and the egg crate foam was too mushy. I returned it. I was going to replace an old pad that is similiar, but of much, much better quality."

It is what it is,June 15, 2009
By Mllramyfrom Mifflinburg, PA
"I don't know that I'd recommend this pad to sleep on by itself if you're camping. I've tried closed cell foam pads, and I'd say this pad is just as comfortable than most of them, and for quite a bit less money. Maybe would be good as an extra layer on top of an aero-bed or the like? Someone else noted that the pad has a very funky smell, and I'll second that -- VERY funky, and hard to get past. Plus, I think it intensifies in the damp. All in all...an OK product for the money."

Comfortable,April 22, 2009
By Bpreparedfrom Santa Clara, Ca
"I bought two of the waffle foam camp pads for a camping trip in Mexico. My daughter and I both enjoyed the comfort and insulation that this simple pad offered. As for its ability to withstand years of service-only time will tell"

Great for Specific Purposes,December 2, 2008
By DucksBucksnJeepsfrom Brentwood, TN
"The Waffle Foam Camp Pad is great for use on top of a cot. Our deer camp club house has some bunk beds built from lumber and plywood. Using the pad directly on a surface such as plywood or concrete is just like what you would expect, flat and hard just softened a little and insulated. I have not used it on the ground yet, so I can not comment on that application."

Great Cot Pad,December 1, 2008
By Yankeewayfrom New Boston, NH
"I have the XL Cabela's cot and this pad is perfect with it. The pad alone is good for a nap but not a full night sleep if used on the ground, on a board platform or on a carpeted floor."

Cot Pad,November 4, 2008
By Ncynorfrom Petaluma,Ca.
"Worked great as a moisture barrier on my Outfitters cot. Cot stayed dry from condensation even on the coldest mornings! Size could be a little larger, as in 3 or 4 inches wider and longer, but for the price worked well."

waffle foam pad,October 19, 2008
By need2hunt
"It is as advertised. The moisture barrier on the bottom performed well and the pad is light and comfortable yet bulky. It tears with rough treatment but that is to be expected."

"This is a good lightweight, simple and comfortable pad. I personally use it as an extra layer of padding on top of my inflatable pad when tent camping."

better than an air mattress,September 18, 2008
By sietedenuevefrom Massachusetts
"These pads are much more comfortable than the regular ones of the same type. However, by the third night I could feel the hardness of the ground under my hips (I am a side sleeper). But if you sleep on your back, you would be very very comfortable. My husband slept very well. We have tried air mattresses before. They don't work for us. They are too cold and they leak after one camping season. We went through 3 of them before switching to these waffle foam pads. The self inflating air pads are too expensive. My only concern is that the backing seems to be a little delicate. We've only used them in 2 trips so far. We'll see how long they last. And they are very bulky. Not for backpacking definetely! Overall, we are happy with them."

very good foam pad :),August 6, 2008
By h20dalefrom Mililani, Hawaii
"This is an excellent foam pad (I purchased 4 pads one for me and the other 3 for each of my kids). We used it for a week here and it is probally one of the most comfortable things I slept on along with a sleeping bag. What is most importiant is that my kids liked it."

Can do better,June 23, 2008
By EChaneyfrom California
"Cabela's Waffle Foam Camp PadL Maybe I can see how the waffle foam camp pad would work for younger people but I'm 61 with the accompanying muscle aches and pains and I used the pad to sleep on the back of my carpeted van. The 3 nights spent sleeping were not comfortable. I had high expectations based on the website reviews however I would opt for the air filled mattress next time. I would like to return the item for a refund but the time spent packaging and shipping costs hardly make it worthwhile."

OK for the price,June 9, 2008
By Crowmagnumfrom Columbia, South Carolina
"Bought for my son. 90 Lbs. He took it on a five night primitive camping trip and loved the mat. The Laminated back really makes this different than an old fashioned egg crate pad. It seems sturdy and is comfortable. Very light; however, it is a bit large when rolled up. Measured about 13" when rolled up. It sure beats the self inflating 1" pads for comfort."

Camp comfort,April 7, 2008
By JKP1from Monroe, LA
"I bought this pad simply because it was almost the same dimensions as my cot. This thing is thick. I strictly use this pad when I tent camp in my Alaknak. It is bulky but I was after comfort not portability. A super comfortable pad for those long stays. Never had any problem with the pad sliding on the cot either. Another reason for buying this pad was to stop the condensation between the sleeping bag and the cot which it did perfectly. This would be a good pad for the ground as well. Once again money well spent.

It's so comfy!,March 10, 2008
By KDUDEfrom Nevada
"This is a great deal for a reasonable price. We keep two on hand for when we have guests. We don't have enough space to keep a full bed set up, so we just roll out the waffle foam and everyone is comfy."

light weight for backpackers,February 20, 2008
By frozennorthfrom Clayton, North Carolina
"I bought this pad for my annual trip to Alaska, I slept on my floor with it for afew days to get used to it, it is not bad it keeps a barrier between you and the ground, that is what it is suppose to do, it is easier than inflatables. I think if I looked around a little at packing or camera shops I could have found the same thing cheaper, bottom line it keeps a barrier between you and the ground and it is a little over priced. Ten dollars would be a reasonable price and nothing more."

very pleased.,November 7, 2007
By mongo1515from brooklyn, ny
"as i HATE aerobeds of every variety, i was looking for a simple pad or something that i could sleep on over at a friend's house when we were doing a large bathroom renovation at home recently. well, i bought two of these (cause i knew one would not be enough, they're inexpensive, and hey, i'm not one for roughing it TOO much). they worked great. i stacked one on the other, and it was soft, but firm--i slept well. very light. easier to deal with than an extra fouton."

Waffle Camp Pad,November 4, 2007
By Raftermanfrom Illinois
"There's no beating the Cabela's waffle foam "Fomie" camp pad. I've searched hi and low and the bottom drops out pretty quickly when looking at other (alternate) types of pads. Many of which are nothing more than pieces of cardboard. When you are on the ground in a tent, these alternate pads ain't gonna cut it! The other option is to spend a fortune on a fancy air pad, but I'm not gonna do that. Get a waffle foam pad. The waffle pad has a backing I presume would keep out moisture from absorbing up into the rest of the pad - which is a good thing! And it has elastic straps to keep it rolled up when not in use. The only complaints I would have is that I'm 6'3" tall, so I barely fit on it. I asked my daughter if she thought it was comfy and she said yea, but that it smelled bad. They look like they are made in China and of course, they were in a box, so that will go away after the first big camp trip to Colorado! I wished the price was a little lower, but I did not like any other types of pads out there, so I guess it all worked out. Save your time looking around and get these if you have to sleep on the ground, they are great on a bed mattress too, you will sleep like a baby!"
