BEST tent EVER!!!!,July 20, 2009
By Jenniegirlfrom Sacramento Valley, CA
"We have owned this tent for 10 years. I had stood up to the men in my husband's deer hunting party every year (which is a huge accomplishment on its own!), the guys on the trout fishing trips, and all of our many annual family camping trips.
The shape of this tent is fantasic - being square in design maximizes the utility of the indoor space...plenty of room for a family of 4 (5-6 person size) plus our bags, boots, etc. The fact that it is basically free-standing makes it super easy to set up anywhere, to move it when necessary, and to flip upside down when breaking camp to shake out any debris.
While definitely not a 4-season tent, it has still held it's own to big windstorms, high sierra snow, and coastal rain.
We have had to do some patching to the floor of the tent, and replace the zipper on the door, but again, the deer hunting crew has not exactly been gentle on any of our equipment.
When the time comes for a new tent, I pray that Cabelas will still be making this one!"

Quad Pole Tent,October 16, 2009
By rjhFLAfrom Florida
"This is the sixth tent I have purchased over the years. Compared to my past tents (3 Colemans, 1 Eureka, 1 Gander Mountain...all good tents), the Cabela Quad Pole is, by far, the best of the lot. I was impressed by the quality of the material and rugged construction. I have never had a tent come with spare/replacement parts as the Cabela tent (fiberglass pole components). The stakes that came with the tent were first class, heavy duty items. I am very pleased with my purchase, and would recommend this tent to anyone looking for a quality buy."

good for the right circumstances,October 11, 2009
By HuntingOncfrom Detroit, MI
"I have used this tent for two trips to Wyoming (Lusk).
The first time the temps fell to 30-40 and with a reasonable 30+ sleeping bag we were fine.
On the second trip the lows were in the 20's and despite the wind blowing upto an approximate 40+ during both trips, we were miserable during the colder nights.
The large vent openings on the front and back can not be closed. Thus wind blown rain, snow and dust get in despite our best efforts but the heat is sucked/ blown out.
The wind shook the tent violently but it stood with the edges, ceiling and walls coming in at least 12-14 inches during heavy gusts. My much more experienced colegue told me that the fiberglass poles we had were better than aluminum because they 'gave' a little, unlike an aluminum pole which after much less bending would've permanently deformed. I did spend a decent amount of time ensuring that every tie down was anchored firmly. My buddy in an adjacent tent had an 8 person Alaskan Guide Tent with aluminum poles that was apparently quite solid during our colder outing. The lack of penetrating wind allowed them to stay warm too.
Interestingly, during a morning of dense fog and wind the aforementioned openings became condensation catchers, leading to large drops of water beading up and falling through, into the living area.
Setup, takedown and stowage was easy."

The tent,September 21, 2009
By outdoorfun
"I really enjoyed the quad tent. I was happy with the size and shape for a single and a double blow up mattress plus luggage and room to move around. It was easy to set up with two people and the rain fly was super easy. I didn't like that the mesh door was on the wrong side so you had to unzip two doors if using the solid door. Overall though it was a good tent."

Quad Pole Dome,September 12, 2009
By TajMahalfrom Salt Lake City, Utah
"I have had the 12' x 10' tent for nine-years. For seven of these years, this tent was used in all four seasons in the Colorado Rockies at least once a month for two-nights or longer when I was a Scoutmaster and it never failed, leaked, ripped in any weather. Utilising silver tarping material, I made a new rainfly that provided greater coverage for winter camping. The Scouts nicknamed my tent the "Taj Mahal" because of how roomy it is. Two people can get this tent set up in less than 15-minutes. I have had the tent recoated twice and have always remained dry. After nine-years, one section of pole finally split (inevitable after so much use) and duct tape provided a quick and temporary solution. Overall, I will heartily recommend this tent to anyone."

It works,August 24, 2009
By darnitfrom NM
"The tent has only been used for seven days on a fishing trip, two of which it rained some. Tent did leak a little thru the needle holes beside the doors, above the pole rings. I applied seam sealer but it hasn't been in the rain since then. I wasn't expecting it to be the equal of my Alaskan Guide tent which has withstood several pretty nasty thunder storms (with NO leaks) during elk seasons but overall I am happy with it. The Quad Pole tent is going on another week long fishing trip in Central Texas next week, I should know more after that."

A Good Tent,August 17, 2009
By Fuzzball59from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan
"Our dog chewed it's way through our last Cabelas quad pole tent in the middle of the night, determined to hunt & execute all chipmunks in the area. Kicking and screaming, I was lead to replace the tent after 8 years of hard use.
I shopped long and hard on the internet and in stores and was unable to find a decent alternative at any price. It appears that one of the few quad pole tents available has only the Cabelas name on it. I care little about whose name is on,though I tend to trust Cabelas, but I think it's important to a have a waterproof tent with walls as vertical as possible, headroom aplenty, and that's easy to set up. This tent has all that.
It's even better than my old quad pole tent. And talk about headroom---the overhead storage net doesn't even touch my noggin standing at six foot even, much less the peak of the tent. And, it has two doors, which is somewhat useless until you think like a 50 year old experienced camper, that that's two, count em, two, zippers the dog can wreck before you have to replace the zipper/tent.
For you very inexperienced campers: Four (quad) poles has the effect of pulling out the sides of a typical dome tent, therebye increasing the volume and verticality inside, and so allowing more clearance between stuff contacting the walls, creating a leak in a downpour.
In all seriousness, or as much as possible: I've been camping for all but 8 years of my half century long life. I've slept in cabin tents and back packing tents and under quickly slung tarps, and now my wife and I are camping together, just the two of us (and the dog) and we like our comfort and space, but we refuse to buy a camper or RV.
We think that if you can get a good night's rest, wake up dry, are able to sit up and dress and stand up without stooping, then the world is a bright place. This tent has all that. It's rated an 8 person tent and we all know that those ratings are utterly ridiculous, but I would be willing to share our two-person space with any other two people who don't snore or whine over the blessed discomforts of camping in general, and have interesting conversational capability and that's as far as I'll go size-wise except to admit that if the other people were grandchildren or small nieces and nephews, I may allow an extra two or three in addition."

Fit the bill,August 3, 2009
By centraloregoncamper
"I have many tents, from a wall tent to pup tents. I needed a light weight tent, packing wise, to sleep a family of four with room for our gear. We just finished a ten day trip to the San Jauns where we had to move camp every day or two. The tent was quick to set up and take down and weathered 90 degree days and rainy nights with comfort and durability. The carry bag supplied was of sufficient size to repack easily. I did purchase a 10'X12' ground tarp to protect the thin floor and the steel stakes may work in sandy applications but after setting up 8 or so times, half will need to be straightened or replaced. Reccomend some plastic stakes."

setup at dusk,August 3, 2009
By CamperTomfrom Brooklyn, NY
"The outing was a success. We arrived late at the campsite due to traffic problems, so I had to set the tent up using a flashlight. The instructions I downloaded before the package arrived so I was familiar with installation. In no time the tent was up but I could appreciate the design only in the morning. Good looking tent, did not leak during the rain; I only wished it was a few inches wider cause I'm six foot; I bought 8x6 one. Interestingly, zipper did not get stuck even once. Overall, it was a great buy, maybe a bigger one would be better for me, my wife and child since I am a big guy. One thing I should mention getting mats for the floor would be great for luxurious sleep."

Everything You Need in a Tent,July 28, 2009
By NYATIHUNTERfrom Los Angeles, CA
"I bought this tent to introduce my 3 year old boy to camping. The four screens allow you to easily regulate airflow and temperature and my son slept the whole night on the first try !!! Its so user friendly that even my "hollywood" wife loves hanging out in it with us. Great interior storage for books, flashlights. Very well made, lightweight for all it provides and a cinch to put together, even by an urban hunter like me."

large enough for leaks,July 15, 2009
By NoMoreBackpackingfrom Cloverdale, IN
"I purchased this Cabela tent because our previous Cabela (an A-frame) lasted many years. This one appears to have the same good quality craftsmanship and is much larger. Plenty of room for our family of four. It's wonderful to stand in a tent. My only complaint is that there was a fair amount of leaking where the fly meets the tent and at the corners, even after seam sealing. There was a steady, downward rain that lasted all day. It was a lot of water but no wind. We had to zip the windows and doors for protection. Good thing it was cool out. The tent is large enough to accommodate some leakage and still keep your stuff dry in the middle but still I wish the fly were larger. Also, the zipper did get stuck on the screen and fabric quite often. You have to use two hands to work the zipper for sure. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase."

So close to perfect but.......,July 2, 2009
By Shelbefrom Northern WI
"I'll start with what I like and then go into the reason why I cannot give this tent 5 stars. I purchased the 8x10 and it is the perfect size. And when I say perfect I mean perfect. It fits my raised queen air mattress very well and I still have plenty of room for my gear and my dog. The height is great for being able to stand without stooping. The rain fly is great...good material and I like how it "peaks" on all 4 sides. I also like having the doors on each side. It did leak in the rain but that was my own fault for apparently missing spots while waterproofing.
The tent is very easy to set up. I like how I just have to run the poles through one sleeve instead of two. The bag is perfect because lets face it.....most of us can never get the tent back in the bag the way it came. Cabela's made a bag with plenty of room to spare. Another handy feature is that the directions are sewn in the bag (tho most are these days). It came with a little repair kit which was a pleasant surprise. I didn't use the stakes that came with the tent. I find most are flimsy so I buy other stakes that hold up much better. That's not a slam against Cabela's...most stakes that come with tents are poorly made (at least in my experience).
Now on for what I don't like. This is minor but I think the floor could be made out of heavier duty material. I, personally, am not a fan of having to use a ground cover. The big reason I can't give it 5 stars is because of the door. Why would the privacy part of the door be on the outside and the screen inside? I would really love to hear someone's reasoning for that. The door should be like the windows where you can open the privacy part from the inside if needed. Another draw back on the doors was the zippers. You have to use four zipper pulls to get out. First you have to open the screen and then the privacy door to get out of the tent. Two zipper pulls for the bottom and two for opening the doors upwards. I did read all the other reviews and thought the zippers and the privacy door & screen being backwords wouldn't bother me. It did.
To sum up I LOVE the size and the rainfly. Love it. If it weren't for the doors my review would be 5 stars. If/when Cabelas makes the tent so that the screen is outside and the privacy inside (and "normal" zippers) I'll be in line waiting to purchase."

^^ Almost Perfect ^^,June 3, 2009
By CaptainETfrom Southern California
"Like many reviewers here, I did my research before settling on the quad pole dome tent. It clearly has a top rating given the number of reviewers. After owning a similar tent (named after a famous motor home) for 25 years, I’m hooked on this style tent for being able to look out all four walls and get maximum airflow for camping in the desert. The fly is the perfect size and shape – it’s not too small. I bought this as a birthday present to myself and have had it out 5 times (each time erecting it by myself) so now I feel qualified to give a good review. The first thing you’ll notice is the quality of the material. You know you got your money’s worth. The storage bag is big enough to re-use with ease. The dual pockets on all four corners as well as the gear loft in the top are great to have. On one outing, we had blowing rain --> sleet --> and then snow; the tent held up beautifully. The wind blew so hard an EZ-Up tumbled 20 yards before hitting the tent and skewering the fly with its leg. Fortunately, the tent / mesh gave way underneath unharmed. The 6” gash was repaired easily with only half of the included repair kit. Last month, the fly was on sale so I bought another as a spare in order to get as many or more years as my last tent. With my luck, just owning a spare means I’ll never use it. ;-)
Although this is a much better tent that the last, the old tent had a few features I found missing on this one. I feel that maybe if this tent goes under a design review, the following observations could be considered in a future model. This is why I called it “Almost Perfect”, and only rated 4 stars – I’m a tough reviewer.
1. The screen door should be outside the privacy door. Why should I have to open the screen and risk a mosquito invasion in order to get privacy or to look outside? It can’t be a rain / weather issue because the side windows work fine with the screens on the outside. My old tent had no problems this way. One way around this is that you can actually see a small distance looking over the door through the screen mesh on the roof panel. 2. The poles could be a little sturdier. Everything is nice and tight once fully assembled and clipped into place, but assembling this one your own requires some skill and patience. Considering the price, size, and weight of the packed tent, I’d still pay a little more for 11mm poles. 3. Although the top pole sleeves are minimal, and don’t interfere with each other where they cross, my old tent had a better design concept. I could stake down all four corners, and erect the poles by themselves. The next step was to bring the center of the tent to the top cross and clip everything into place. Sleeves are good but I’d rather have a clip or Velcro strap instead. This method allows you to pitch the tent by yourself regardless or wind, rain, or available light. I don’t think I could pitch my new tent alone in the wind. 4. Considering the quality of everything else, the zippers could stand improvement or stiffer flaps to avoid jamming. I can do it fine, but my wife and kids seem to jam it a lot. I’m not sure why the first three times the doors were easy to work, but the last two times the side walls were extremely tight and made it difficult to close. Did that Rain / Snow outing shrink my tent? <grin>
Not really an issue but I’m questioning why the sleeve for the secondary side poles are a different color piping on one side (for differentiation from the main pole sleeves) but not on the opposite side. Was this a design thing or an assembly oversight?
Finally, I wish I had gone all the way with the 10’x12’ size as my 77” cot touches the walls at the head and foot when placed by the 8’ wall. It also protrudes slightly into the doorway. It will fit mind you but I’d prefer it not to touch the walls.
That’s it – I hope I helped. I don’t think anything better is out there. Happy Camping!"

Can't imagine how it could be better!,May 28, 2009

"I've used this tent now twice since getting it a month ago. The first time I set it up all by myself and still found it easy to do. The 2nd time my husband helped and we had the whole thing done in under 10 mintues. Everything is neat, organized and works perfectly. On the 2nd outting we had some pretty high winds and the tent held up perfectly. I'm an artist and I use the tent as a portable studio when we're camping. I need light, but also good ventilation. Although the description lacks this information (and I had to call customer service to find out!) this has 2 HUGE skylights in the top as well as the 2 windows and 2 doors. You're protected and your gear is protected, but everything is open and airy. The quality is excellent for the price and I would definitely buy this again if I needed to. Nice job Cabela's!"

Love this tent!,May 1, 2009
By ricflofrom Texas
"Before we got this tent, I spent a LOT time researching tents with stable walls to withstand winds, and still be comfortable to stand up in. We chose & purchased this 12x10 tent over 4 years ago, and it has made 15 trips so far. We've never been disappointed in its performance. It is easy to set up, and has stood the test of heavy t'storms with several inches of rain - without a drop inside. The walls are stable, even in high winds. The mesh roof provides great ventilation. The two-door design is a very nice feature. We have recently been placing a battery operated fan in the gear loft for a ceiling fan effect - that little trick makes this tent near-perfect.
Several reviews mention the zipper on the doors getting hung in the fabric, and that is the only drawback to this tent. We find that problem to be worse if the tent site is uneven, but it is certainly well within our tolerance level.
I highly recommend a good ground cloth to protect the floor, plus we place old rugs near the doors and other traffic areas. Doing so helps keep the floor clean and also protects and extends the floor life. We look for many more great years with this tent.
I'm buying a smaller version of this tent for my niece. It will be a perfect start for their camping adventures."

Reunion Tents,December 8, 2008
By ProfessionalGrandpafrom Cascade, Idaho
"I own and have owned many tents of various sizes and designs. This is the best medium price family camping tent I have found. The design is fairly simple and easy to set up. For the price I think the quality of materials and construction are quite good. My only concern is that the zippers should be a little stronger and less prone to jamming.
This tent comes in 3 sizes. So far I have purchased 2 small ones and 2 medium ones and plan to buy 2 large ones for this coming summer. I have these for my children & their families to use at our family reunions & other occasions. I have owned 2 of them for 2 seasons and 2 for one season. They are usually only set up for 1 or 2 weeks each summer. They have had to stand up to the abuse of kids and done well. They have also been through rainstorms and allowed only minimal leakage.
In summary I would highly recommend this tent for situations such as mine where they will see limited use. Spending more is not necessary and spending less will lead to lots of hassle, discomfort & dissatisfaction. For really heavy use I'd spend significantly more money to get a seriously high quality tent."
