Pyrodex® RS can be used in all calibers of percussion muzzleloading rifles and shotguns.
It has a wide application of uses and is the most versatile powder in the Pyrodex® line. Like all
grades of Pyrodex®, it burns cleaner and produces less fouling than black powder. RS compares to
2F black powder on a particle size basis.
Select is considered by many the most accurate powder available. Select is an enhancement of
our RS grade of Pyrodex®. Using RS or 2F data in a volumetric measure, Select can significantly
reduce group size. Wonderful news to the deer hunter is that Select performs well with sabots and conical
bullets. Select has also become a favorite among many black powder cartridge shooters because of its
exceptional consistency. For target use it is the "best of the best".
The principle use for Pyrodex® P is in all pistols and in smaller bore rifles, .45 caliber and
down. P is also useful as a priming charge in guns which have a tortuous or fouled ignition channel or
other ignition problems. Pyrodex® P compares to 3F black powder on a particle size basis.
Shipped regular UPS ground only. Shipped in 1-lb. cans. Available: RS (Rifle Shotgun), RS (Select) and P (Pistol).

Easy clean up.,October 26, 2009
By furtrapper86from Arkansas
"I use the RS in both .50cal sidelocks and inline rifles. I have had no ignition problems. It doesn't matter if you use a 209 primer or a #11 percussion cap. My cap lock rifle fired the first try when a deer came out after still hunting in the pouring rain for 13 hours. The economy of shooting loose powder cannot be beat. It can be had much cheaper than buying pellets and the loose powder actually gives me higher velocities. Clean the barrel and lock with hot soapy water at the end of the day and spray with Rem oil. No rust, ever."

Good,October 7, 2009
By Escaladafrom Florida
"Dear Sirs :
Very good on my black powder weapons .
I took them to the local gun range and fired there .
All the lead round balls came out very strong from my guns .
Right now I do own five .44 caliber revolvers .All of them black powder .
Here in town everybody like to own black powder guns because they are easy to control in power .
Besides, all the .44 caliber are to compare in power with a .38 special revolver .Both of them are very a the same level .
Thanks."

Not as good as BP,March 22, 2009
By DOCJimRfrom North Texas
"Pyrodex requires significantly higher temp to ignite & high pressure to burn well. In fact, Pyrodex Pellets have some traditional black powder on the ends to start ignition or they would misfire. It is totally useless in flintlock as it will hardly ignite in the pan nor ignite easily enough to work consistently in the barrel. While it does leave less fouling, the fouling is much more corrosive and needs to be cleaned quickly & thoroughly with the acid residue nuetralized. Brass is especially subject to pitting & corrosion, nipples need careful attention. I am not representing anything other than 30 yrs of shooting experience & have no axe to grind, I just want shooters to be aware of the pitfalls of use. I have tried Pyrodex but don't think it's worth it just to reduce the fouling, as I wipe after each shot anyway for accuracy. Black Powder guns were meant for Black Powder, Synthetics are, in my opinion, not needed nor do they achieve best results..."

Pyrodex--still great!,February 11, 2008
By BPKenfrom Sierra Vista, AZ
"After all the years that Pyrodex has been in production it is well established as a great BP alternative. Consistent, cleaner, easy to dispense, easy to ignite with standard #11 caps and competetively priced. That is why I have stuck with it."

Pyrodex Select,May 1, 2007
By Jerry5585from Encinitas, California
"I recently purchased a .54 caliber black powder percussion rifle for hunting elk in Colorado. I used standard FFg black powder and nothing I did would make the rifle pattern acceptably. In addition, I had to swab the barrel after each string of five shots to keep it from fouling. I finally tried Pyrodex Select for the first time. After shooting eight five-shot strings in varying powder amounts, I finally got a very acceptable load...great velocity and a good grouping. There was an additional bonus...no fouling at all. I never had to swab the barrel and all rounds seated easily and fully. I strongly recommend Pyrodex Select over standard black powder."

Hodgdon Pyrodex RS,December 17, 2006
By 4wagonerfrom Omega Illinois
"Hodgdon Pyrodex RS has been used by my family for eight years . Knight rifles (209 wolverine , 209 TK 2000) is the guns we have matched Pyrodex RS .. Take guns to the range and try different styles of loads. For both of my guns , the loads I want ,100 grains works best . Cleanup is easy ,fill bath tub with hot soapy water ,let rifle soak, brush clean, dry off , oil ,store gun in dry place. I think some can't get the concept you play hard you still have to work for your playtime. Knight rifles hold a true shot pattern with Pyrodex RS.. I am so confident in Hodgdon Pyrodex RS and Knight rifles for my turkey/deer season this is all I use. I live in Illinois weather gets extream (very cold to hot with high humity) in a day. Pyrodex and Knight rifles to date ,No Problems. Hope this helps ."

Not too hot,November 21, 2006
By Jagermeisterfrom West Jordan, Utah
"I shoot a traditional .50 caliber sidelock with No. 11 caps. I have traditionally shot FFg black powder and taken several deer. This year I purchased Pyrodex RS, it worked fine at the range when the weather was hot and dry. However, when hunting I had the first no fire I have ever had when I went to unload at the end of the day. I put another cap on and it did fire the second time. I cleaned the rifle, replaced the nipple and the next weekend I did get my deer but there was a noticeable hangfire from the snap of the cap to ignition. Not too hot for what I need."

DO NOT use pyrodex in new in-lines,November 6, 2006
By sbkennelsfrom Ohio
"Using pyrodex in the new muzzleloaders is just wasting your time. Cleaning them is just a waste of time. But i have used pyrodex and it shoots good but cleaning it is just a pain. I would recommend Triple 7 powder. I have a CVA Firebolt 209 in .45 cal., And I can shoot the same hole at 100 yards. With 90 grains of FFFG and a 195 gr. powerbelt aerotip bullets topped off with a 3-9 Sightron scope, I am able to kill deer at 250+ yards."

depends on what your after,November 3, 2006
By Bojanglesfrom Seattle, WA
"I use Pyrodex P. If youve got a cap and ball revolver this works like a charm. If, however, you have a flinty BEWARE!!! You have to have a VERY sharp flint that sparks very well. I've only gotten it to work by over priming the pan which creates a hang fire. This is bad. The charge in the barrel goes boom but only after a full second of fisssss, even then it doesnt always work. Ive heard tell of people who have gotten it to work. I have tried CAREFULLY grinding it into smaller grains to no avail. But, in my stainless 1858 remington new army revolver, which I purchased from the lovely Cabelas (world's foremost outfitter) It works like butter on a pancake, with some maple syrup, and maybe some jam...."
