Penn Levelwind Reel

Penn Levelwind reels are legendary for their versatile performance. Anglers worldwide have found their sure reliability and incredible toughness is at home anywhere - fresh or saltwater, casting or trolling. These reels have precision machined stainless steel pinion gears with high-strength bronze alloy main gears. Each reel has an anodized aluminum spool. Composite side plates and a warning clicker. These reels also feature a free spool lever, and comfortable soft grip counter-balanced handles. The 309M and 209M have a graphite composite rod clamp.

"Greetings my name is John I recently purchased 2 Penn levelwind 9M reels along with 2 Berkely Glowstiks. In my opion this is an excellent combo. When I recieved both reels and took them out of the box I noticed that one had a faulty clicker so I called customer service and explained. Didn't have time to send reel back for I was going on a fishing trip to the Sacramento Delta that weekend. I was told I could use the reel for that trip and still send it back when I returned. That's why I deal with Cabelas they stand behind their products. Caught lots of catfish and stripers and the reel that was functioning properly worked perfectly. When I got back I sent the faulty reel back and now have a new one which works properly. I am happy with both the rods and reels I purchased the Penn 9M is just the right size for what I am fishing for. Many thanks to Cabelas for standing behind your products."

"I recently purchased two 209M reels for my boat. This purchase came from the suggestion of friends who use them.
Both reels preformed amazing! I trolled for stripers and was supprised how well the drags worked. Great product!"

"I have always been a big fan of the penn levelwind reel and still am. I bought a penn 9m reel/cabela's depthmaster combo for a recent trip, and the reel mount was too small for the seat on the rod. Cabela's needs to check tho make sure the combos that they sell are compatable."

Not what I expected, August 5, 2008

"I bought this particular reel because it seemed reliable. After all it's the most used reel by charter boat captains. The first day I used it, the click button malfuntioned. I took it to a shop and they supposedly fixed it but it happened again immediately. There's a round, opened ended copper circle clip where the click button fits between. The button pops out everytime. I'm going to send it back."

"i was very unhappy with these reels got two of them the first one the day i got them a screw fell out and the second one first time using it the clicker quit, so i will never buy this reel again. Cabelas was great sent them back exchange the reels now very happy thanks."

"As of 6-15-08 I have fished 2 times with my new Penn 309. I have caught several catfish with it, the largest 28 lb bluecat on the Arkansas river. Wonderful reel,it works great."

"I have used several different models of Penn reels for 11 years fishing in saltwater for halibut, lingcod, and king salmon. During that time I have never experienced a failure. The latest model I've used is the 309m. Like all the other Penn reels I own, it is a basic, no frills, tough, economic reel that gets the job done time and time again. I'd recommend these reels to anyone."

"Basic levelwind Penn is a standard but the drag lacks some smoothness and has limited adjustability.
The low price confers it a high note in my book, making all the hours of fun retreiving fish a very good deal."

"One of the best reels made for the price. Have used 5 for 25 years now needs new drags. cost of drags bout 30.00 each reel...Better to buy new? Maybe. watch out for used reels with bad drags wasting your money"

"i got a penn 9m and i love it,. it a very smooth reel. it casts like a dream. i put it on a med/hvy 7ft casting rod,with 15lb test. it is a grra reel, for shark and bull red. i love it. and for the price you cant beat it. penn is truely living up to its name. but that is all i buy is penn reels. i own a gti 310,320,330,345 and a penn 209,9m and penn captiva8000 spinning reel. you could not ask for anything better. my grandpa my dad and now me are all true believersin the penn name. i would recomend this reel to anyone. lucky fishing to everyone."

"I can't remember a time I didn't have a Penn 9 plus other Penn reels. My family has fished Penn reels for three generations and they continue to serve us well. I own over 20 Penn reels (spinning, trolling, and baitcasting) and have never had a problem with any of them. They hold up extremely well in saltwater, have great drags, and do what you want a reel to do. I will continue to buy Penn reels for new rods I build or purchase. I have never had to replace one in my entire life."

"I have had a Penn 209 levelwind fishing reel for over 20 years. I use it for light/med trolling for lake trout with lead core line. It is simple to operate and has always worked great. I just bought a new Penn 209 for the Mrs. I was pleasantly suprised to find that the same product 20 years later mantained the same high level of quality that I experienced with my first Penn 209. (that, by the way, I'm still using). So far, we've only been on the lake with it twice, and just as expected, it works great. No complaints here. High quality, great value, reasonable price."
