"The biggest negative on this reel continues to be the lack of a reverse lever........................."

PENN IS THE BEST,
January 16, 2009
By andrewwi

"Penns are definitely the best quality saltwater reels, and the slammer is no exception! Very well made. Great casts, Great drag, Great EVERYTHING. Definitely a reel made to have for a lifetime. I pair the slammer 560 with the 8.5' premier surf spinning st croix rod. Perfect for NewEngland stipers."

Penn Slammer 560 spinning reel,
July 7, 2008
By jagertom

"I am using the reel with 15# monofilament on a 7 foot rod fishing for stripers and bluefish. The reel has a very smooth drag and operates quietly. I like the light weight of the reel and have had good success on strong runs with 10# to 22# fish."

Penn 113H,

By AnglerManagement

"This is the fourth one I have purchased for my boat. I use it primarily for Cod and Haddock, and they have never failed. The drag system is very easy to change for bait fishing or jigging. I would highly recomend this as a good all around real. (I got the first one 5 years ago)"

Penn's Toughest, Time will tell,
January 24, 2007
By bassharrier
from Altoona Pa.
|
"I purchased this reel last year as a backup to my 650ss. Not that the 650 needs a backup, hasn't in 20 years, but just in case. And I like my Penn spinners.
Only thing keeping this reel from getting five stars is the selective anti-reverise option, it dosn't have it. Reel past center and you either have to make another revolution or open the bail and try again. I like the option of flipping the lever and back reeling a turn.
Only fished this reel about four times last year trying it out but it is a smooth casting and retreiving reel. Anyone that is used to the ss series will enjoy fishing with these reels as the same quality is there."

Good to know.,
November 20, 2006
By JustinW
from NH
|
"I've been happy with this purchase and done quite a bit of surfcasting on the Northeast for Stripers and Blues, both of which the reel performed well for what some would call light gear. I have had some difficulties with the drag becoming loose and inconsistent after getting the reel wet in salt water or rain, however after some technical assistance from Penn this has been resolved with occasional washing of the carbon/teflon? drag washer, and loosening the drag while not in use to allow the washer to "fluff up" and dry between uses. I have not had any problems since. When paired up with the right fishing line and rod this reel is incredibly smooth and long casting."
