Baitfeeder reels contain 10 bearings (nine ball bearings and a one-way clutch bearing) for amazingly smooth retrieves, and they boast a baitfeeding design for more control when fishing live bait. In the baitfeeder mode, the spool releases line without the bail being open and keeps it under slight tension to keep control of the bait fish swimming around in the water. When the fish comes and takes the bait, the spool lets out line under the slightly heavier tension so it won't feel your resistance until you're ready. Engage the reel and set the hook. The Rotor Equalization system makes for a wobble-free retrieve, so you can fish all day long in comfort. It has a titanium-coated stainless steel spool rim for long casts and durability. Okuma Extra Drag System uses oversized stainless steel and felt washers to dissipate heat and put the brakes on trophy-sized fish. The Rotor Equalization system makes for a wobble-free retrieve, so you can fish all day long in comfort. Includes a FREE spare aluminum spool.

Okuma Reel Results,June 16, 2009

"I now own 7 Epixior reels (30's/50's) and have yet to have a failure. I tournament bank fish and the bait-runner ability saves gear! Keep them in stock!"

Shark Tamer,April 4, 2009
By Groupergrabberfrom Florida Fishing Fanatic
"I bought this reel because I like my friends baitrunner. He gave me a bunch of noise about Okuma but this reel has certainly shut him up. I pull up 20 lb Gag Grouper with the EB80 no problem. Certainly worth the price!"

this reel fights above its weight class,February 9, 2009
By boxofrainfrom southern california angler - I write fish reports
"I originally bought this reel for my daughter, to match up with a rod I built for her, as it is a spinning reel with a baitfeeder feature and is a bit smaller than the shimano baitrunner 4500, (another great spinning reel) but has more line capacity than the 3500. The two spools make it easy to have both 15# and either a 20# or 12# spare spool. The drag is excellent and smooth. It is easy to cast and is significantly lighter than reels that do not offer much more line capacity. The baitfeeder feature makes it easy to fly-line a live bait and let the fish take the bait before loading up the rod and putting it in gear. I knew it would be smooth and light, but I was more impressed by the power and resilience it has demonstrated when we have hooked fish that I thought would overwhelm the reel. Last year, my daughter caught a yellowtail at Catalina Island that went over 30 pounds and put her on the cover of Western Outdoor News. She also caught several other smaller yellowtail and countless bass and barracuda on that rig the year before. A month after she caught her big yellow, I caught a 29 pounder (yellowtail) on a live bait while she was taking a break in the galley and I was sneaking a fish on her rig. The drags have held up and I just bought another one of these reels for my other daughter's birthday."

Okuma Epixor,February 3, 2009
By Paul2009from Vero Beach, FL
"The reel is very good so far. I have not had the chance to use it a whole bunch as of yet. So far, so good though. I have been told that it is a good reel but will not last as long as the Shimano Baitrunner. I will have to see for myself."

What an awesome Reel,January 12, 2009
By DEXtfrom southampton, nj
"I bought an Okuma Epixor Baitfeeder and 3 Penn Liveliners in 2007. I wish I just bought 4 Okumas. the Penns all fell apart within the first season and I took them apart to clean and grease after every trip. my Okuma I never took apart because it is too difficult to put back together but it works as good as it did on day one. the drag is great and it couldnt reel any smoother. I use my reels hard fishing all year round and Okuma is the only reel that I've ever had that needed so little maintenance and keeps on working so flawlessly. Okuma is definitely the way to go."

Love it!,December 7, 2008
By tdvkfrom Vietnam
"Since I'm overseas I would be purchasing sight unseen and depending solely on other reviews and online specs. I fish mostly lakes and ponds and occasionally rivers so I wanted a lightweight baitfeeder type reel that didn't break the bank. The EB50 fit the bill perfectly. Not too big and not too small AND light compared to other equivalent brands. Positives: -Inexpensive -Very well built -Smooth -Light -Spare metal spool (although it doesn't have bearings and as many drag washers as the main spool but non issue for me) Negatives: -Prone to scratches (I'm obsessive about keeping my eqpt looking and performing new) -My friend allows tries to be a nice guy and set the hook if I'm not near my rod BUT I always have it set to free spool so ends up in a big bird's nest. I don't allow anyone to touch my gear for this reason. -*Line lay-not sure if it was designed like this but when I initially spooled the reel the line lay would taper from back to front. More line would be at the back of the spool than the front. I fixed this by removing the clicker washer on the main shaft but now I have to be extra careful so the clicker will not fall off when I remove the spool. 5 stars if it was for this."

Best buy for the buck.,July 20, 2008
By ShovelMyersfrom Cedarville, Ohio
"Love all the Okuma's.Ive got several EB 80'S, 1 Coronado CD 90, 1 Caifonian 60, several Corrida BR 90'S, AND several Avenger 90'S. I've fished all kinds of Baitrunners,Baitfeeders,Liveliners(Shimano, Daiwa, Okuma,Tica,Pinnacle,Rhino,Silstar.)The best reels for the money are the Okuma's .I pull 40,50, and up Bluecats and Shovels in to the bank in 2 to 5 minutes all the time.I never clean my reels, but I am in Freshwater.5 of my buddies all fish Okuma's too.None of us have ever had a problem other than relining them. The Shimano's and Tica's are nice to, but why spend $30 -- $40 more dollars(buy some good line, hooks and floats)>Okuma fan since 2002.Good luck !!!"

Okuma Epixor Baitfeeder Reel,July 7, 2008
By MarkinCAfrom Arroyo Grande, CA
"I recently bought an Okuma Epixor 50 Baitfeeder spinning reel. I have been using it for Striped Bass fishing and love it! I have caught over 40-50 stripers, (I can't keep track anymore) with it and it has performed perfectly. I ordered another one for my wife, she likes striper fishing too. A fishing buddy of mine asked me why I bought this reel and I said it's the latest technology, good design, has 10 bearings and this baby works. We went striper fishing yesterday, (I caught 16 stripers, releasing all but 4 and 2 channel cats) and I saw him using it too. He is very critical of any other brand, but I think he's learning to like my Okuma Baitfeeder. I looked through every spinning reel in your catalog and chose this reel above all others. It is a great value besides. Mark in CA"

By JRelyeafrom Saddle Brook, NJ
"I use a 30 as a downrigger reel for trout & for live bait rigs. Absolutely positively recommend this reel to anyone, and I'm not a big Okuma fan. The 30 is significanly smaller and lighter than the Shimano Baitrunner 3500 which I had 1st. Both are vey fine reels."

"Wow! what a nice reel. Highly recommend and don't worry people the 80 isn't really that big. Fit in my hand just fine and I can't palm a basketball. Reels in real fast and has no problem with big fish. The baitfeeder is a must for night fishing. Buy today :-)"

Poor Performance,September 25, 2007
By RedfishIIfrom Fla
"The EB-50 appeared to be the perfect match wt wise to my new rod, had great fit and finish, and nice smooth function. It proved not to be sturdy, however. On the first night of use, after catching several large reds, the next fish-probably a large grouper, destroyed the drag. After a 40 min fight and eventually breaking off, the drag no longer functioned and was clearly broken inside the body of the reel."

Good for trolling, not for casting,September 24, 2007
By 6525FGfrom Montreal (QC)
"Lightweight, yet rugged, this reel and especially the baitfeeder feature worked very well when using a downrigger for trolling. The drag settings were smooth and easy to adjust. However, I was disappointed with its casting abilities - the bail is too far ahead of where the reel connects with the rod, making it difficult to reach the line with your finger to prepare to cast; and I found the reel clunky and noisy when the bail closed as you cranked the handle."

Big Cats,September 17, 2007
By Anonymousfrom Ashland Ohio
"I use the 80 size Baitfeeder for big cats. I realed in an 84lb. blue with it and it was unbelievable. A 50 pounder on my old setup took all i had to bring in. The Epixor is, in my mind, the best reel for big cats."

great baitfeeder reel,September 12, 2007
By JGG19from Central Fl
"I have 3 other baitfeeders of another brand that don't begin to compare to this "80" size epixor. Not only does this reel hold much more line (I was spooled by a tarpon on the other brand "65" sized baitrunner) but it also has twice the drag potential (though I most likely won't ever lock this drag all the way down) as the other brand. Almost 35lb max drag compared to 24lb max on my other big baitrunners. Drag pull tested with a rapala lockNweigh in max drag (locked down) state. The quality and finish of the Okuma far outshines my other baitrunners also. The other brand reels have shown an extreme reaction to saltwater environments both corroding and freezing up even though they were thoroughly rinsed and wiped down with oily rags after each use. The Epixor shows no such tendancy. It is in a superior league and at a bargain price in my opinion. A great value."
