Folstaff wading staff, October 7, 2009

"Excellent for river wading while fishing. Also for strenuous hikes; I will use two of these while decending fromt the rim to the river level (9.7 mi) of the Grand Canyon next May."

"Works really great in compared to many of the things I have used to support myself with in the past. The 3/4 incher is really nice and stout. Like having another leg."

Folstaff Wading Staff, December 16, 2008
By IdahoFlyFisher from Idaho Falls, ID

"I purchased a 3/4" staff and would definitely recommend this size over the smaller one. In swift, heavy water it's nice not to worry about the staff collapsing on me when I need it the most. I agree with the other reviewers who have mentioned the difficulty breaking the staff down. A word of caution to those who have never used one before. Based upon my own experience there might be a tendency when wading to be overly aggressive and taking undesirable chances because of the sense of security that having the staff provides."

"The staff seems to be made well and works as it should. Only problem is that no rubber tip came with the staff. This should have been included at this price."

Great Buy, July 19, 2008
By SalmonFish from NOCA

"I bought the 3/4 dia. size I like the taper on the joints and the
double cord. I had an Orv... staff before and was not very happy with it (poor joint and single cord) this is much better staff.
You want the 3/4 dia. one if you get into deep fast water.
The 1/2 dia will vibrate in fast water feeling UN-safe.
Good Price also

Folstaff Wading Staff, June 19, 2008
By dovehunter68 from Oregon

"Used one of these staffs for the first time last night in an admittedly very tough river river to wade, but hey, isn't that where you need these staffs to perform?. It simply didn't hold up. Came apart when I needed it to stay together, and when I was finished, couldn't even begin to get a couple of sections apart. It will go in the trash can."

Folstaff wading staff, August 20, 2007
By parachuteadams from Palmer, AK

"I ordered the 1/2", wading Montana Creek this last weekend found the staff to be too limber and too difficult to take apart at the end of the day. Also the bottom section pulled out, while in use rendering it useless until the staff snapped back together. Not at all satisfied with this product."

Easy to Open/Tough to Fold, July 30, 2007
By DISMAS

"This is a good product; it functions as intended. Very easy to whip out and use. Couple of issues: (1) it is tough as nails to break the thing apart to fold it back up. The pressure placed on the staff when one uses it makes the joints very difficult to pull apart; (2) the folded unit does not fit very well back into its carrying case.
Perhaps wax or some sort of lubricating agent will make pulling the joints apart a little easier.

Makes wading easier, July 6, 2007
By BassinTom from J-Town PA

"I bought this staff after have some trouble in the creeks where I fish slipping on the rocks. I am getting a little older and my balance is not as good as it was when I was younger, well let me say this is one nice wading staff. I am no small guy by any means (over the 250# mark by a few) and it holds me with no problems. I bought the 3/4 inch one and there is nothing I can say that is bad about this staff. I like the way it flips right open when you need it and goes together. The pointed tip doesn't get stuck at all on anything that I have been in as of yet. The cord is long enough to tie a square knot on one of my D rings on my vest. If you looking for that extra balance in the stream or creek don't look any further this is the staff you want buy."

Folstaff 3/4" wading staff, June 18, 2007
By jdemarie from Laconia, NH

"I have tried a number of knock-offs, all of which failed in tough situations. This is the absolute best of all the wading staffs out there. Solid construction. My fishing buddy of 40 years has had one for 30 yrs without any problems whatsoever."

Almost ..., June 3, 2007
By FlyGuyinAlberta from Calgary Alberta

"I flyfish a lot living right next to the Canadian Rockies. This staff is excellent for both big rivers (like the Bow) and the smaller mountain streams.

I didn't give it 5-stars because of what I consider to be a minor design flaw. Once you fold the stick (5 pieces) that last part with the pointy-end always folds up - pointing towards your head. Sometimes with all the bending and movement that flyfishing creates - that little pointy end can jab you in the side. Perhaps if you have abs-of-steel this won't matter.

I often wonder if the designers ever use the products. One less/more bend and the pointy-end points down in the holster.
However, it's still a good staff.
