Good Desk,
July 30, 2009
By Piscator999
from Detroit MI
|
"I bought this so I could tie a few flies at a time, close the desk, and not have to worry the dog might get into it. It took some sanding and a few coats of urethane to be ready to use; it's unfinished and the surface is pretty rough. I also drilled a hole in the drop-leaf for my vise so I don't have to work on the edge. Then I put a little plastic bin in the open drawer under the hole and presto - no mess!"

Cabela's fly-tying desk,
March 3, 2009

"I found the desk functional and easy to work at. A good sanding is required if a smooth finish is desired. Although the package was destroyed the desk itself was in good condition. This desk is well worth the cost."

Fly-tying desk unfinished oak,
February 10, 2009
By stinger13
from Oliver Springs,TN

"A little top heavy but oh so nice. It hides all of the fly-tying materials away with a great looking piece of furniture that is very functional. I am glad i change to this instead of my sorta portable desk. Solid wood product not pressed wood. Finished mine by rubbing with linseed oil looks great."

Good Christmas present,
January 15, 2009
By Joy19

"My husband really liked his new fly tying desk that I gave him for a Christmas present. It is a very nice addition to our craft room. It was relatively easy assembly and excellent storage for all those fly tying items that tend to go astray in the process."

Good product,

"I bought this desk from Cabels's in East Hartford. I found it to be of very good quality and easily assembled, about 20 minutes. When installing the screws that attach the top to the legs use a stub screw driver and there isn't any problem. The only thing that needed to be done was to glue in some of the buttons."

Finally a place to put all my stuff!!!,
October 28, 2008
By beeguy
from Buckley, WA

"Just picked up this desk today from the Cabela's in Lacey, WA. Started putting it together as soon as I got home. All the parts were there but the hardware was scattered all over inside the box. The woodenware was all packaged nicely but you think they'd put the screws in a baggy or something.
Like everyone else has said, the instructions were very vague. One tip I'd like to give is to screw the desk to the top rails first before connecting the sides together, otherwise you wont be able to screw the top to the finished base. Also before you put the top part of the desk to the bottom, make sure you have the right side facing forward. I didn't and the drawer closes in weird now and I'm gunna have to take the whole thing apart to fix it.
Everything fits nicely inside and there's plenty of storage. The only complaint I have is accessing the drawer when working on something. It's next to impossible.
I still give it 5 stars cause the price is incredible for such a solid piece of furniture that looks incredible! Plus it makes my wife happy that there's no longer any feathers on the coffee table."

Ok but customer service issues,
September 30, 2008
By FlyFisherman08
from Arizona
|
"Once i got the product it was fine. It took three shipments of them sending the wrong product. The customer service team was great, just not able to send the correct product and I had to buy one and take the other to UPS to ship back. On the the Desk it is good was easy to assemble. The instructions are poor so you have to have a full vision of the desk. The bolts and the drill tool sent was of poor quality and I had to replace the some of the bolts so I could get them tight enough."

Red Oak fly tying desk,
March 18, 2008
By fishinholes
|
"Assembling the desk took about one half hour and after staining with red oak stain it actually looks like a nice piece of furniture. It's a bit front heavy with the door open but placing fly tying books on the bottom shelf seems to eliminate that problem. Good small desk for the price."

Not much room for improvement,
February 7, 2008
By Reeze

"Cabela's has always had great products and quick shipping and this was no exception! The desk is beautiful and easy to put together. My boyfriend absolutely loves it. The closing desk allows you to hide all the little bits and pieces! The drawer is perfect and the shelf space is an added bonus. I just wish there were more products to add to the desk to make it even more organized! Overall, I'd recommend to any fly tier...a great gift for the ladies to give to their significant other."

Well detailed and practical desk.,
January 29, 2008
By smiley01

"This desk was bought for an avid fly fisherman, that ties hundreds of flies each year fitting the stream conditions. He has been extremely pleased with the desk after a light stain and sealer was applied to finish off the desk and make it fit into his setting. I was impressed with the quality of the oak, and the well apportioned work surface and drawer. It fits into a very small space and adds to a rooms decor, especially a fly fishermans. I would recommend this desk to any avid fly fisherman."

Not worth the money,
July 25, 2007
By Anonymous
from Colorado
|
"First, the instructions are almost worthless. If you haven't put together "furniture out of the box" before, it may be a challenge. Second, on the one I received, the desk top that folds down was slightly warped. Third, I don't feel the desk top provides enough support when folded out. It is fairly flimsy and over time and use, I feel it will come loose and sag. Conclusion, take your money and buy a used desk or table. Pass this one by. I hope I can return mine."

Cabela's Fly-Tying Desk,

By JPDC

"Excellent piece of furniture for a tying station. Does not take up tons of room and holds plenty of material. Assembly is straigiht forward and easy enough for someone with all thumbs. Add the storage cabinet, wooden fly tying station and the spool ferris wheel and your set."

Exceeded my expectations!,
February 11, 2007
By Crazywader
from Hawaii
|
"Desk arrived 4 days after placing order! Directions were a bit vague however the solid red oak is quality wood and it is constructed nicely. I stained and applied a polyurathane with minimal prep work and it looks like something found on a showroom floor! I also lined part of the drawer with felt for my tools. The drawer is quite spacious and sufficient to hold all my materials. I'm spending much more time tying flies than I ever have. The work surface is at a perfect height with my vise in a pedestal. When I'm done I can close the desk up and the materials are out of sight. I couldn't be happier with the desk!"
