"Today, I went reef-fishing from my 16 footer out in the ocean (Waianae Coast, Oahu, Hawaii). Winds picked up, so I attempted to deploy this chute...but the darn thing wouldn't open. It just drifted limply along the side of my boat. And since I was alone about a mile offshore and the ocean was starting to get choppy, I wasn't about to reach over the gunwale and manually hold the chute open with both hands in order for it to fill up...I might fall overboard, and then what? I think the fabric this chute is made of is way too light (it's made with fabric that, literally, feels like it came from a parachute); therefore, it's not rigid enough to open up on its own. I've used much better chutes on my kayaks, made with PVC-coated fabric, that opens up instantly upon being deployed. It may be cheap, but I wouldn't purchase this product if I were you. It didn't work for me."

"We have used drift socks before with no problem. This one, for what ever the reason, had difficulty staying full, even in the very swift current. It also kept nose diving under our boat and getting stuck in the prop. Have not used this brand before and doubt if we will again."
