Military Surplus Blanket, June 15, 2009

"Good service life in this blanket, tied it on a back of a saddle, exposed to the elements, lasting well."

"I returned the blankets because they were thin and poorly made. In several spots they were already coming apart."

What is it?, March 17, 2009
By Anonymous from Milford, CT

"I cannot honestly say that the price of this blanket didn't raise my suspicions, but I was rather expecting, from what I could see in the photograph online, a blanket that looked and felt more like grey flannel. Instead, I am not sure what this blanket is made of. It seems to be recycled material, and exactly what is recycled I couldn't fathom a guess - it looks like a whole plethora of unidentifiable stuff, including little pieces of plastic that may have come from the inside of an electronics device, wire, etc. - God knows. It's just all mixed up and pressed flat into what you might call a blanket. I was going to use it in the house, but I've decided to line the trunk of my car with it instead - which, if I'm not mistaken, is even what the item's description says to do with it. It certainly is useless for anything else."

Blanket, January 26, 2009
By pauljines

"Ugliest blanket I ever bought. But it's the warmest of all in the house. I'm getting another for the car as I sit watching people coming and going to their places of sleep? Sounds weird? I'm a cop. And over nighters are no fun when it's 3 degrees out."

Define Military and Surplus, August 24, 2008
By WeirdedOut from Plainfield, NH

"I got this blanket last year and tucked it away for unexpected use. It looks like a composite of random fibers, - that's not a problem. I went to use it last week and it had a bit of an industrial smell. No problem, it's new, I decided to wash it (dry clean only doesn't impress me). What was left on the inside of the washing machine weirded me out - it was completely covered with hairs.
Now, I'm familiar with wool, sheep, spinning, etc, and these aren't like any wool fibers I've ever seen. They were either black or white and straight, about 2-3 inches long. They most resembled hairs from a dog's coat or fine human hairs. I'm sort of curious about what they are and saved a bag of the hairs, but upon reflection, for the money I think I'm just going to get rid of the blanket - I don't really want to sleep with it again and it wouldn't be worth the postage to return. I know, that's irrational. This may be 'military surplus' but I'm not sure which military that might be or whether it's surplus from their warehouses or their barbershops.
Two stars for being cheap and big, but not the 5 a US Army GI's wool blanket would have received.

Good Quality, June 30, 2008
By LarrysPack

"I purchased this blanket as a spare to keep in the car for emergencies. I unexpectedly had the opportunity to use it a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised it wasn't itchy like other military surplus blankets I've used. Quality seems very good."

Disappointed, June 23, 2008
By ax1464 from Iowa, USA

"The "blankets" I received don't really live up to the description given them on the item page. A more accurate description would be "heavy felt", because that's basically what they are. The thickness varies greatly, with some areas so thin I'm sure you could easily poke your finger through it. Yes, these would no doubt keep a person warm but, contrary to the description, the blankets I received are not "durable" and will most certainly NOT "last for generations". These are a far cry from the "military surplus" wool blankets of the past. For the price, though, they would probably be perfectly suited for temporary or emergency use."

Wool Blend Blanket, November 19, 2007
By DaveI from Michigan

"I sleep next to an open window even during winter. I have found the surplus blanket to provide good warmth. The size of the blanket is a real plus. I can fold over and still get full coverage. My brother used the blanket recently and has decided to get two for himself. I did expect, however, a wool blend blanket to have more than 30% wool content.
All and all an excellent purchase for the price.

Well worth the price!, July 10, 2007
By sportsman11 from International Falls, MN

"I purchased this blanket as a means to protect the cargo area in my Toyota 4Runner. Instead of purchasing the $100 rubber covers, I decided that this was more practical and worth the money. It is truly massive. I actually have it double layered in the back and it still covers everything! It is well built and thick, keeping mud, snow, water, and scratches from damaging my floor. It also affords me the opportunity to use it if needed. I live up in the cold regions of MN and sometimes the added warmth is much appreciated. I would recommend this to anyone who does not want to spend $100 and wants a cargo cover that can be used for so many other things."

Blankets for the cold, November 20, 2006
By adunn from Loveland, Colorado

"When you need a blanket that can be used to help you and your sleeping bag get through those extremly cold and unexpected hunting season nights, this blanket will fill the bill. If your like me, you carry this in your trunk or truck storage on those long trips in case you have a breakdown and need the added warmth. You can't buy better or cheaper insurance anywhere. And the quality can't be beat for the money!"
