Very unhappy with Mfg. change., November 21, 2009
By Mfgdesignchange from Central, KS

"I have used these boots for three years and think they are the best boots on the market. I use them on my hunting dog. I buy a new set every year. This year when I got my new pair I noticed a change they mfg. made to the design of them. They uused to have two velcro straps that fasten around the back of the dogs leg and they changed them to two buckles that snap and I hate them with the buckles. They are hard to adjust and they don't stay fastened. CHANGE BACK TO THE VELCRO!! Other than that I love these boots, but just know you will have problems with these mentioned straps."

Ice, Snow and Rocks no Challenge, November 18, 2009
By Boarstalker from Katy, TX

"I bought these boots for my 18-month old Weimaraner to use on our annual elk hunt out in North Western Colorado. I took the on-line tutuorial video Cabelas offered to heart and had my dog trained to use the boots in just a matter of a couple of weeks. The boots held up to snow, ice, rocks, and even cactus beatifully. I had been worried about the bottoms of the boot not being made of a tough enough material to handle those conditions but other than a few light scratches made by the sharp rocks, I had no need to worry. If any of you know the Weimaraner's penchant for running at top speed you'll know how worried I was about him dropping a bootd due to the fastenings (zippers and velcro straps) failing. But he never dropped a boot, they never even came loose and maybe best of all is that the dog did not try to chew or shake them off while out there. I would highly recommned these to anyone. Afterwards I threw them in the washing machine and they came out just fine."

The only boot that stays on, October 7, 2009
By GreenDog2 from Ohio

"My dog is a very active lab. I use these everyday to protect her paws from gravel & other elements. These are the only boots that I found that will stay on her foot without turning and that will hold up to the everyday abuse."

Great boots, August 5, 2009
By snailpace from Southern Ca

"These boots are great for protection of your dogs paws. I take my Lab out in the upper desert for quail and chuckers were there are alot of rocks and cactus. If I didn't have these boots there would be no way my dog could work without tearing up his paws on the rocks and cactus. I tried other boots but the dog tore up the boots in just 1/2 day and when I say tore I mean they could no longer wear them. With the terrain being so rough these boots last only 2 seasons which is better than 1/2 day. But the dogs paws had no cactus thorns or cut up paws."

The BEST booties!, July 23, 2009
By squadautomaticweapon from Fountain Hills, AZ

"The best booties ever! We're in the Arizona desert and I've used other "premium" brands but none have come close. These don't twist or shift when adjusted properly, they have good durability and they are abrasion and cacti resistant. I HIGHLY recommend using childrens socks as liners for paws to avoid blisters or rubs. My Weimeraner, Maxine, will never use anything else!"

Dog Booties didn't work for our dog, February 17, 2009
By tbentz from Bismarck, ND

"While I think these booties are very high quality, they didn't work out for our dog. First off, our dog is a Brittany and thus LOVES to run. That in itself wouldn't be a problem, except after the snow has been around for awhile up here in ND, it tends to get hard and almost ice-like. When our dog made her debut outing with the new booties, which are made of a smooth fabric, she was sliding all over the hard ice-like snow. We knew it wouldn't take long before her legs would splay outwards and break. I'm sure if your dog isn't a crazy runner like ours, or if your terrain is such that snow doesn't harden like ice, these booties would be great. They had nice warm lining and the velcro tabs made them nice and secure. If they make booties just like these except with some kind of gripping material on the "feet", it would be ideal for our dog."

Dog Boots, February 17, 2009
By Ramse from Chicago, IL

"They're well made and I expect them to last a long time in protecting my dogs paws. The only issue I have with them is they don't have any traction on frozen/wet grass or ice. The boots have a slick flat rubber buttom(sole). They could use the sole of athletic or hiking shoe to offer better footing. My 2 1/2 yr old thought it was funny watching our 90lb Black Lab slid all over the place."

purchchaser, February 16, 2009
By catslayer from Gillette, wyoming

"These were purchased for hunting dogs so their feet would not get sore in icy conditions. They do not allow the dogs to run freely and are rather bulky. I'm sure they would be an excellent product for your dog for protection and/or healing as long as you were not expecting performance."

Deluxe hunting boots, February 10, 2009
By hankshootsalot from wisconsin

"I've tried other style boots (cheaper ones), and they would come off & be lost in the snow. The Cabela's boot stays on & seems to be holding up. I use them mainly for outings in the snow. It's important to keep the dogs nails trimmed or they will wear a hole in the boot."

"The boats were great. They solved my dogs paw problems and he could not have been happier. The orange color really made him look funny when he ran but he did not mind. Great product."

Will not fall off..., January 7, 2009
By BeetlekiL from Cold Colorado

"Stays on in deep snow and will not fall off.

These boots are great, however, they will cause discomfort if your dog's nails are too long.

"Thanks for the doggie boots. They are our second pair and are a great value for the cost - my hunting buddy, Doc, really appreciates the boots when hunting in New Mexicx, Nebraska & Kansas cactus terrain.
Thanks again for a great product,

Boots don't stay on the dog, December 11, 2008
By YukonTerritoryHunter from Yukon, Canada

"I have a mid sized short haired border collie. I live in a cold climate and need some boots for the ice and snow. I don't recommend these boots for this purpose. Our dog loves to run and often looses looses the boots. It's a good thing they are so bright. The soles are a slippery material, I wish there was some traction and a better way of securing. They look like tough boots though. I'll continue to use them until I find something better. The dog will keep them on unless it's running and playing with other dogs. It took a little training and getting used to before she'd move too far or stop lifting her feet up so high."

nice but..., December 2, 2008
By Jack39 from Central OH

"These boots appear to be well made, however, because of the 2 velcro straps, they are difficult to put on. In addition, the bottom is very slippery, making it difficult for the dog to get any traction in snow or icy conditions.

The good news is that Cabelas has a very good return policy, so it was no problem returning them.

Difficult Dog Boots, November 3, 2008
By Retrieverbeliever

"The Cabela's Deluxe Dog Boots are, in my opinion too complicated to fit to the dog. The velcro that wraps over the zipper on each boot does a good job staying in place but regardless of how tight I put them on my dog, she still had "sores" where the boots rubbed the top of her feet. We were hunting in rough Arizona desert, rocks, cactus, etc. and by the end of the first day she had lost one boot and the others were well on the way to being trashed. Not becase the boots aren't well made of cordura but because the terrain was that tough. The international orange color is a good idea in the event you want to go back over the past 3 miles to try and see where your dog lost it's boot. If you have to have boots for your dog, I guess these are OK, but for me way too much attention is required. Suggest these boots be used only for moderate terrain."

got one hunt out of them, October 31, 2008
By onequailhunt from SE Washington

"Boots appeared to be manufactured with high quality materials and craftsmanship. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. The fit was even good on my 80 lb lab. I took him on several trial runs to get him used to the boots. It didn't take long for him to forget about the bright orange boots on his feet.
The quail season finally opened and I couldn't wait to get him out there and not have to worry about the sharp basalt rocks and cheatgrass seeds causing foot problems. I adjusted (tightened) the boots after about an hour of hunting and checked tightness periodically throughout the morning (about every 2 hrs).
Just as we were getting ready to go I noticed he had lost a boot. Another hour of fruitless searching in the waist tall grass and it was time to chalk this up as a learning experience. If hunting hard in tall grass and thick cover, CHECK THE BOOTS OFTEN!
I only wish it was possible to purchase single replacement boots.

Hunting Dog Boots, September 27, 2008
By maggiemay47 from Battlefield Missouri

"Great product!!! I had no problem with my lab getting used to wearing these boots. I slowly worked her into these on short walks so that I could get them broken in. I am going out to Kansas to pheasant hunt, and I feel these will work great. Thanks to Cabala's supplying hunters with high quality products."

Deluxe Hunting Dog Boots, September 14, 2008
By Anonymous from Phoenix

"While the boots stay on our 3 dogs no matter what.
They only lasted 1 day at the lake on our 1 year old dog before there was a hole in both front boots.
The 6 year old dog put holes in the front boots on the second day at the lake.
I would estimate that the boots will last 3 or 4 days on our 10 year old dog since she is much slower than the other two.

We spend our vacations at various lakes in Arizona which are very rocky along the shoreline.
My aqua socks will last one summer and hope to find some boots for the dogs will last just as long as mine.
