OK BUT doesn't last, September 16, 2009
By BC

"I have used the Solder-It lighter for two months.. all of a sudden, it will not light.. Perhaps, there is a flint that needs replacement.........

However, I am not sure as I cannot find any schematics or instructions to see if one can fix.. or replace a flint.........

Probably not a good idea to buy if one cannot replace a flint or determine the reason for failure.

Awesome Lighter, August 9, 2009
By experiencedeaglescout from Twin Cities, MN

"Well I read a lot of discouraging reviews on this lighter. However, I have had one of these for at least four years now, with it running strong ever still. First I'll run through the cons.

The trigger is somewhat broken, in the sense that the tabs that hold it to the lighter snapped off, and thus I have to hold the trigger on with a rubber band. Works fine. For some reason despite detailed instruction no one else could figure out how to use the child lock (adults mostly:P) which is the only reason the trigger is damaged. Within months of having it I left it on too long, which started to melt the frame. First, it still works just fine, second, too long is like 5 minutes. Use it properly and you will never face this problem. The key chain broke off, which after 4 years is really not a complaint, especially as I really didn't like it anyway. I will agree with the masses that it sometimes doesn't like to light when I want it to, but flame adjustment is absolutely not hard (just a little screw type thing near the refill valve) and I also find sometimes I have to adjust the sparker wire in the flame nozzle. Also not hard, and not a bother either. The adjustment procedure is simply bending the ignition wire so the spark hits the nozzle again. The top part is starting to become loose from the base, too. Seriously though, it's an OLD lighter. Give it a break!! Oh, and it has a little trouble burning while upside down, but that's a design thing. I don't think most if any lighters actually work well upside down.

Now pros. Obviously the fact that it's still running fine is a plus, and it runs a long time on one tank of fuel. This thing has gone through a TON of abuse in the years I've had it, including just recently going through the washer AND drier, resulting in no damage whatsoever even tho it was half full of fuel (it actually has been running better since then;). It has started countless campfires, lanterns, torches, candles, etc., and I honestly can't think of a time when it has let me down. It has a funny quirk, at least funny to me, in that it almost never will start for anyone else, yet for me it starts 9/10 times. If it doesn't start, all I have to do is click it a few more times and it goes on. It works in any weather, from 100 degrees and humid to -25 with heavy snow, and everything in between.

If I had to change anything, it would most likely be to put a large "DUH" label on the already clearly labeled child lock. I still can't figure how it would be that hard to understand... Maybe put a caution on the package about not using it too long at a time, and either have a better designed key chain or just remove that altogether. I never found it to be very useful.

Pardon the very lengthy review, if you wanted a short yes or no. I prefer long detailed reviews, and thus I wrote one. I will absolutely be buying another one of these when (more if) this one ever manages to break. Thanks Cabela's!!!

Don't spend your money, October 27, 2008
By TJ53 from Saint Augustine, Fl, boater, outdoorsman

"Having purchased many Cabelas products over the years, I was very disapointed in this lighter. I ordered two and after some difficulty got both of them to work. The flame adjustment is very sensitive. Kept one in my pocket and kept the second for back up in my truck. I smoke cigars, after after less than two months both were working on their own schedule or not at all. On the great note, Cabelas offered to ship me two more, I declined. Cabelas then without ANY hassel credited my card. I turned around and ordered another lighter(Quantum GPI ) after reading the reveiws. Hopefully this lighter will work better. Customer Service is great, the lighters seem to be iffy, READ THE REVIEWS. TJ53"

Turbo Lighter, June 5, 2007
By MIBRITT from Northern Michigan

"Bought this lighter, filled it with premium butane and put in in my tackle box in case I ever had an emergent situation and needed a lighter. Six months later went to Canada fishing and needed to start a fire. Would not and still does not work. Don't waste your money. I learned a lesson-you get what you pay for!"

Misleading claims, January 2, 2007
By SteveUpNorth from northern NY

"This product claims that "The Piezo electronic ignition is virtually windproof..." and implies that the flame will operate when the "wind in howling". Perhaps the ignition is windproof, but the flame goes out in a faint breeze. It is more difficult to blow out a birthday candle. I have tried adjusting the flame-level to a variety of settings. No improvement. Otherwise it seems to be operating properly. If you are looking for a truly windproof lighter I recommend looking elsewhere."

Turbo-Lite Lighter, December 4, 2006
By sixbuck1 from PA

"I purchased this lighter to light my deer scent sticks as it is not affected by wind. The lighter worked well until I took it hunting. The piezo electric ignition broke and it will not light on its own. It will burn if you provide a spark. Other than that the lighter is good if you need a windproof light."

great torch, October 25, 2006
By huskerduu from central Nebraska

"This is a great little torch to have along with you whenver you're outdoors, especially when camping. It'll light up at all kinds of angles and supplies a great torch for lighting fires. Just don't leave it in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time, that's for sure."
