all weather lighter,November 18, 2009
By recon3mcfrom retired in southeastern Alaska
"I have two of these--just had to get my brother one --he's happy and says it works well. it could be made a little bit larger though, hard to hold onto and light with big hands and gloves on, other than that, it gets a passing grade from both of us"

Not Worth The Price,October 10, 2009
By mjohnfrom Johnston, IA
"I recently purchased this lighter to take canoeing in the Canadian wilderness. Fortunately, I also brought some other forms of firestarting, as this lighter was not reliable. I'm glad I didn't have to rely on this lighter in a survival situation. I returned it for a refund."

Good Product,October 9, 2009

"I purchased this lighter to put in my framepack for hikes and camping trips. It sets for months at a time sometimes and it still lights up without a problem, its never blown out, and has never clogged up. All in all a great product."

Nice little lighter.,September 12, 2009
By HUNTERSTAHOEfrom Newport News, VA
"Lighter works just as advertized. It is smaller than I had expected and will likely require the gloves to come off to use it, but I will see on my elk hunt next month.
Would have been a 5 where it a little easier to use with gloves on."

Alaskan Outfitter All-Weather Lighter,August 21, 2009
By OilRatfrom Louisiana
"Very disappointed with quality and function. Used it on a New Mexico Elk Hunt. At 8000 ft elevation would not light even with refined butane in lighter. Recently lid broke off with the lighter riding in side pocket of truck door. Once butane reservoir is about half full, lighting is a hit or miss situation. Do not depend on this lighter for emergency situations or harsher environments."

Lighter does not work,August 18, 2009
By LSTampafrom Tampa, FL
"I gave this lighter as a gift and the recipient used it one weekend, then called to tell me that it would not light any more. The gas escapes when the lighter is pushed, but the striker will not light the flame."

All Purpose All Weather,August 10, 2009
By Matt76
"Cabela's all weather lighter works like a jewel. I am a ultra-light hiker, happy to travel light but needing equipment that performs. This lighter fired up my alcohol stove in a torrential rain under a small tarp shelter just when I needed to dry out and eat a warm meal. Three days out on the trail is not the place for finnicky equipment. Flint is cool for backup but I carry this lighter as my first option."

Great little lighter,May 26, 2009
By Moodsterfrom Skagway, Alaska
"I love this lighter for almost everything, I smoke cigars and love its extremely hot flame, the only reason I didn't give the lighter a 5 star rating was its hard for me to use the lighter as its so small, it works fantastic but its hard for me to hold onto at times, impossible for me when wearing gloves. Might not be a problem for other people., In the rain and cold capital of the world IE: SE Alaska, this is a powerful friend when you need to start a fire."

Best for the money,May 25, 2009
By JOCjrfrom Pine River, WI
"I bought this for cigars, not cig's so with that said, I think this is the best lighter for the money. I have used it nearly on a daily basis and have had no problems with it. If you use a high quality fuel it doesn't clog. (I use a butane that is refined five times.) The orange case is the way to go so you'll see it if (when) you drop it. The Cabela's screenprinted logo on the outside wore off after a week of hikeing around in my pants pocket. (No big deal.) I really like the fact that there a bright orange glow/light at the base of the flame on the lighter because, frankly, in the daylight that is all you'll see to tell you that it is lit. The flame is otherwise invisible in daylight. I have used it while traveling cross country (truck driver) and is always works wheather it is at Denver, Aspen or Chicago. Altitude doesn't affect it much. If it is real cold, (below 32F) then I'd keep it it close to the body to keep the butane warm(er) and light easier. (Butane decreases in pressure the colder you get. I would not keep it in the outside pocket of a backpack while elk hunting in the snow, for instance.) It has a built in waterproof O-ring in the lid that keeps the insides dry when you drop it in the creek you are fishing. There is a built in loop that I found handy to put a very large split ring through and connected it to a key retracter. (Stopped dropping it.) I'd like to see it bigger in size (about 30%) and a double or triple flame to light the cigars easier, but on my friend's cigarettes it is an instant light up."

Recommend for Emergency only,March 23, 2009
By mfog15from Turner Maine
"This lighter is substantially smaller than previously produced. It is almost half its original size, Good for packing but, if you are looking for a cool jeep lighter, it's not practical. It is Great for packing into your Go bag for those times you forgot to include time to travel back to camp & need to camp out in a pinch. PRESTO ! Instant FIRE. As always prepare your gear for anything you may face & you will do OK. As a side note, It calls for 4x refined Butane any other will give poor results in unusual circumstances. (as proven in the reviews that rank low). In most areas its hard to find anything but lower Quality fuel because, other lighters are not this special. Do do yourself the favor & spend the extra $ 1.00 for QUALITY FUEL. (otherwise buy a BIC.) I gave Only four stars because of the small size. ( I got big mitts for Hands.)"

Runs out really fast, and doesn't work in the cold,February 18, 2009
By MZ360
"I took this thing to Alaska in September, and if it's not in your pocket it gets to cold and wont light. When you do get it warm it runs out of butane very quick. Basically if you want this lighter for an emergency only it might be okay, but not worth the price."

All Around Best,January 27, 2009
By SweetWilliefrom Pasadena, Texas
"This lighter is NOT the most expensive lighter I've ever owned, just the BEST. The ability to light everytime, even in the most gusty wind, is no less than amazing! I love it and tell everyone I know about it and also show it off whenever the wind is blowing hard. It really deserves the 5 star rating I gave it. The window for fuel level is also a very nice feature. The "Cabela's Alaskan Outfitter (tm) All-Weather Lighter" is just awesome and I would recommend it to anyone that has need of a good windproof lighter."

doesn't work in cold or high altitude,January 26, 2009

"My lighter worked fine at Sidney, Ne. In Wyoming at high altitude or anytime it was cold (overnight in the pick-up) it did not work reliably. Stay away from this one."
