"I have used military issued cots many times. From the old wood and canvas to the new aluminum style like these. With all of them, you have to stand the cot on end, stand on the second crossbeam and use your foot to maneuver it into place. I was pleased to find that this was not the case with this cot. I had no trouble stretching the fabric to assemble. It is for this reason that I am willing to overlook the thinner than expected (but still strong) fabric and give them 5 stars.

"The product is of Quality construction However the direction are poorly prepared and misleading. The detailed photo of the end bar mating with the female end connector piece is extemely difficult. The photo on the box clearly show to us the end bar hole without the female end connector.
I scratched the end bar trying to use a large leverage bar."

"This cot fits my needs perfectly. I had read alot of reviews on it, with the size and assembly. My generic remedies that I had followed by other customers reviews works like a charm.
Out here every local store outlets, were selling the XL cots which was way to large for my needs. And some that were similiar sizes had cheaper quality nylons for the fabric itself.
The assembly on the whatever side your fitting the end crossbar can be quite difficult, but I use a 2x2 stick to wedge it in, it might seem like a hassle but it works, no sweat.
I had also got the carry cot bag, cot-side nightstand.
This bag has alot more space to carry other stuffs with no problems, including the cot itself.
Folks out here, including some of my buddies were excited when they saw the cot-side nightstand. I have never seen it before and they have never seen it before. I get alot questions about it over here, I send them to Cabelas, to check out whatever Cabelas has, we don't have many gear oriented stores out here, in Honolulu. Found this place on the net and shipping fee's were excellent.
Yea like alot of folks had mentioned to put on some wax on the corners to prevent the squeaking and stuffs, I can live with the noise, but to be courteous to my buddies I put some on, and it reduces the squeaks. :)

Close to the perfect cot,August 19, 2009

"I bought this cot after having tried two others over three years and found them not quite what I wanted for several reasons. I use one, occasionally two, cots in a large tent as part of a comfortable living space along with a table and chair, to set up camp for several days where there is road access to bring in this sort of thing, and my requirements are a compromise between comfort and space. I have had occasion to sleep on the cot for a couple of weeks since I bought it, in combination with a self inflating mattress purchased elsewhere. (I am writing from Canada, and shop on line in the states only for items I cannot find in Canada. Incidentally, I find Cabela's service and shipping on orders to Canada quite good - I have certainly known a lot worse.)
The cot was the size I was looking for, and offered the strength which I wanted. In addition it offered an advantage over the competition not even mentioned in the description - I only noticed it by looking very closely at the image. Most cots of this general design have cross pieces which stick out several inches from the sides at the head and foot. This effectively means that the cot takes up more room in the tent than it needs to, and the projecting ends are a hazard inside the tent, catching on things, banging shins, etc. As often as not they poke into the side of the tent, and the tips are not always well protected. They are a general nuisance. I noted on the image that the cross pieces on this cot project only as far as is really necessary to provide secure sockets for the lengthwise pieces, and the tips seem to be fairly well protected with an at least partially rounded plastic insert.
When the cot arrived this was exactly as I had hoped. In addition I found that the fabric is tight enough that I can sit comfortably on the middle of it. As to the noisiness that several people complained about in the reviews, I had decided to take a chance on that, particularly as it seemed it could easily be stopped with the application of a little parafin. However, in practice I did not find it to be a issue. It does take quite a push to get the last lengthwise piece into its socket, but I take this as a trade off one must accept if one wants a cot this strong, tight enough to use as a bench during the day.
What stops this from being the perfect cot, and getting a five star rating, for me anyway, is the feet. They are square with the ends of the legs, so that they present a hard angle to the floor. When the floor is a tent floor, this is a serious issue. Ideally the leg tips should be angled, with an enlarged end, to present a wide, flat surface less likely to damage the tent floor. I have a mat on the floor, and I put pads under the legs to get around this, and was sufficiently happy with the other qualities of the tent that I was willing to accept this. (I knew about it from the image before I made my decision.) However it is a bit of a nuisance, especially considering that this sort of padding tends to drift as the cot is used and needs repeated attention.
All in all the cot more than meets the expectations I had from the description and image, and suits me much better than any I have had before."

"Me and my friend both purchased one of these several years ago. I weight 220 and he weights 280 and we have used both cots many times and both are still holding up with no problems. "I had read the reviews and noted the difficulty associated with assembling the cot. With a board for leverage, I have found that the assembly can be accomplished without to much difficulty. I also note that although some folks commented on the noise, with a thermal rest mattress on the cot, it made very little noise when I slept. bottom line, I find this cot very comfortable and it is head and shoulders above any kind of air mattress. "I bought two of these cots about a month ago. I'm not overly impressed with them. I feel that for the money they cost they should be a little better quality. The biggest problem is they are very squeaky! So every time you get up or lay down everyone else wakes up."
