CAN'T LOAD THE WADS WITH CHOKE TUBES IN PLACE,November 14, 2009
By mudigger
"This kit is OK but the plastic wads cannot be placed in the barrels unless you take out the choke tubes. How inconvenient. I use paper dime coin wrappers in which I place the shot lossly and twist the ends. Works great."

10 gauge wads,March 9, 2009
By wydopn231
"Ive purchased these before and never had problem. They are pricey.Ive been trying to find another that offers just these paper wads without the plastic ones.I found no differance in the card board wads over the powder, the paper over the shot then I did using the plastic wad sleeves.Except for the difficulty of loading and the plastic proved almost im possible to load"

Cabelas Wads, Overshot and Overpowder Cards,January 11, 2009
By BlackHanderfrom Frederick, Maryland
"The shot column height inside these multi-metal special shotcups is adjusted for different shot loads (type, amounts, and pellet sizes of shot) by placing a combination of cork or felt wads of 1/8 inch or 1/4 inch thickness of the next lower gauge (e,g, 12Gauge cork or felt wads for a 10G gun, 20G wads for a 12G gun) inside of the shotcup, beneath the shot, to bring the top of the shot column up to the top of the wad petals. Cabela's sells felt (not sure about cork) wads. This provides a firm "flat" surface of shot (bordered around by the shotcup-petal-tops) for the overshot card to properly rest against for a properly compacted muzzleloading shotgun load. There are technical performance and SAFETY reasons why we reloaders do this. This is called "building the shot column". This allows use of one shotcup for your various chosen shot weights (e.g. 1-1/4 oz) which might not otherwise fill the shotcup. With or without cork/felt wads, do not overfill the shot cup or a pellet may get caught between shotcup and barrel (very bad -will damage thin or soft barrels). If needed I typically use one or two 1/8 inch wads (cork) (preloaded into shotcup) as they fit deeper into the interior shotcup bottom better than a 1/4 inch single wad, for a precise 10G 1-1/2 to 1-5/8 oz nontoxic load. If recovered the cork wads are typically undamaged and can be reused. [Cabela's sells these shotcups/wads for a reason. These very specially designed and manufactured multi-metal shotcups help protect your gun barrel from hard shot types which are much harder than the gun barrel steel itself. Hard (e.g. tungsten alloy) shot may well otherwise "score" the inside of virtually any shotgun barrel (even on a single firing), something the first reviewer is perhaps ignorant of by suggesting use of cheaper (softer plastic blend) shotcups without specifying "for lead only" (i.e. not to use cheaper soft shotcups with hard shot types in a barrel you care about).] The shotgun barrel chrome lining should help resist some of this damage (for steel only- but not tungsten alloys) but it is better manners to simply protect the barrels from hard-shot direct contact in the first place by using these special shotcups. The cork or felt wad(s) thus used protect a softer type shot (lead or other soft modern nontoxic) from damaging itself (roundness) during firing, and prevents hard or soft shot from imbedding into the bottom of the shotcup, due to setback forces/heated shotcup base experienced during firing. I use two or even three thin overshot cards at a time for additional safety to reduce possibility of unfired barrel shot displacement. (Mfg recommendation is to use ramrod to repack second unprimed unfired loaded barrel after firing first barrel). These shotguns are a hoot and are very powerful and quite capable, especially at moderate to full loads. Heavy or maximum loads increases recoil and promotes flinching: avoid. My 12gauge Cabela's shotgun with 1-1/8 oz #8 shot patterns better than most of my (much more expensive) modern cartridge guns. Suggestions: Snakeshot pouch (Irish head), pre-measured powder loads, rigid possibles bag at your side to keep premeasure-powder loads, shotcups, overshot cards separate and easily/quickly accessed: all good. A dove flies- it dies - one shot usually. I do not take cartridge guns dove hunting anymore. Not as effective. Am preparing to use the 10G for waterfowling. -Safe shooting."

Too long!,October 30, 2008
By Bristolguyfrom Finger Lakes, New York
"Do NOT buy these unless you plan to load 2 1/2 ounces of shot. That what it takes to fill the shot cup! To use a standard load of shot you have to use a filler. I find it easier to use Win 12 Ga. AA plastic wads. They are MUCH cheaper."
