"got this kit for my self ,ok after pre fitting all of the parts togather then took it back apart and put on the stain and blueing i was short the jag on the ram rod called cabelas and they sent me one off the shelf also i put a scope on the gun and just shot it last weekend at 65grains of ffg and round ball at 30 yards hit 5 out of 5 shots in the size of a quarter not bad at all look out deer here i come

Cabela's 50 cal muzzleloader kit, August 11, 2009

"I had brought a Cabela's 50 cal muzzleloader kit once before when it was at a cheaper price. The kit was about 90% complete everything fit nicely. It was stolen when my house got broken into. So I finely had enough money to get a new one the price jumped over $100 dollars and the stock had so many errors on it. On the left side the where two areas that had depressions that I had to sand out. On the butt end where the brass plate sat on the bottom there was 1/4 to 1/2 inch of material that had to come off and on the sides I had to take off over 1/8 inch on each side. Then the number of screw holes that where not aline with the brass plates.
For the price I paid, I feel that the gun should had been more completed and better quaity."

"I might suggest another kit for first timers, but this is an outstanding kit for all others. I could easily put it together in a few hours if I just wanted a shooter. I took almost a week polishing, fitting, and inlaying. Now it not only looks and shoots great but is a one of a kind that I can be proud to use and pass on. Well worth the money. South Texas Whitetail BEWARE!!"

Fun to Build, May 30, 2009

"This kit was fun to build. I did have a couple of small snags while building but they were all pretty minor. Some could of been avoided if I had read all of the instructions first.

The bigger issues were, The barrel rail for the ramrod was too long so I had to trim it off. Also the hole in the end of the stock for the ramrod was either too small or out of alignment with the rail and guides. I drilled it out and all is fine.

If you take your time with the stock an extremely good looking finish can be achived. I will be shooting it next, hope is shoots as good as it looks."

"this is my first kit gun and first muzzle loader experience. the time and effort i put into this gun is well worth it. the directions are detailed and all of the parts fit great. i have fired the gun and to be honest with you it shoots great. i used 90 grains of powder with round balls and at 45 yds my first 2 shots were almost an inch high and almost touching side by side. i plan on installing a period correct reproduction scope in the near future. i am excited and looking forward to deer hunting with this gun next season."

Enjoyable winter project, January 27, 2009

"A great buy when on sale, this was fun-and challenging-to build. The materials were well worth the price. I'm sure anyone with some woodworking and metal working experience can put this together in very little time, but to acheive a professional finish took a bit longer and considerable more work.

As delivered, the butt plate would have sat at an odd angle to the stock and the screw holes did not line up. The tang was not finished on two sides, both showing when completed, and would not mount where it was intended without some modification to the stock. Most screw holes had to be epoxy filled and redrilled to assure they went in straight. I was not happy with the stock sights.

All were minor quality control flaws and were easy enough to work around. The experience of building this piece was fun and the satisfaction of a fine looking finished product made the extra work worthwhile. Nice to find something challenging to do inside this time of year, the winter is going quick."

"Bought this for myself as an early birthday present, cause I couldn't wait. I've been a professional wood worker for over thirty years and get a kick out of building from these kits. This one was well prepared for even an inexperienced person. Fit on all parts was good. Everything was there, even a few extra small parts, screws, springs etc. My wife was gone for five days, so I had plenty of time to work on this project, completed in four days with a few hours devoted each day. I'm as pleased as I can be with the finished piece. Beautifully grained walnut which I put a lot of time into finishing, with spectacular results. Cabelas can be proud to sell this product and I think anyone would be proud to own it. I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can shoot this gun."

"Some casted parts had to be heated and stretched to fit. All in all most parts were cleanly casted and machined and the stock had good grains. Tips for staining, bluing, and woodworking would help."

"Great kit! took way less time than i thought it would to build,at the range it performed perfectly! adjustable sights are great and VERY acurate! performs better than some of my cartridge rifles,and cost pennies to shoot since i cut my own patches and cast my own .490 lead balls. lots of interest drawn at the gun club! hope ya'll have a few more in stock!
i would recomend this to anyone interested in muzzleloaders.
nice feeling to shoot a rifle you built yourself.
kentucky long rifle kit is next!"

"Overall i was satisfied with this product. The only problem i ran into was the piece that holds my ram rod wasn't cut to the proper length so i had to trim it myself. Other than that it was fun to put together and kicks like a mule. :)"

"This is my 6th black powder kit I've built, and the mostinteresting problems kept popping up. Al were reasonably easy fixes, but had you scratch your head for a while.Looks overall OK when finished, but have not shot it yet."
