For hauling meat out of the backcountry nothing beats a strong pack frame and the Alaskan Outfitter is
specifically designed to handle the toughest of tasks. We also added the ultimate adjustable suspension
system with a padded hip belt and shoulder straps, much like you would expect to find on more
expensive, hi-tech, internal frame packs. The bottom of the frame extends out with a freighter shelf to
help support the load of the pack or to carry a heavy load when the pack is removed. Nylon webbing
extends from the base of the frame out to the freighter shelf, preventing anything from slipping out.
When you're packing out the antlers of a trophy elk from deep in the backcountry, slide the blaze
orange compression pod out of the freighter shelf for a secure, steady and safe hike. The heavy-duty
frame adjusts from 39" to 43" high. Weighs: 6.2 lbs.

Strong enough so far,October 12, 2009
By Verifyfrom Utah
"I will hopefully have a chance to pack something out this deer season but until then I tested it out with my kids to see if it would handle an elk quarter. I started with my youngest and worked my way up to my 11 year old. She weighs 67 pounds and it held without a problem. I am not going to worry about packing anything out."

elk quarters,September 23, 2009
By talk2elkfrom Southwest Montana
"I used this pack to haul out a bull elk hind quarter and a boned out shoulder from an archery elk. The fit and weight distibution was excellent and the pull out harness worked better than I expected. The load was secured in less than a minute. This is a great pack."

"It is good, but not the best, since it is not best for the entire heavy loads (50-70 kg). Especially not good for a big bull caribou."

Very comfortable,June 23, 2009
By SkiNCfrom North Carolina
"I bought this frame to carry corn and mineral blocks into the woods. I used it the day I received it, and it worked well. Before using it the second time, I adjusted everything according to the instructions. The second time out it was Fantastic. Please take the time to adjust this frame, and you will find it very comfortable. I have carried a 25 pound mineral block and 50 pound bag of corn with no issues."

Cabela's Alaskan Outfitter Frame and Harness Only,December 3, 2008
By knockmdownfrom Arizona
"Pack frame heavier then expected. Very awkward and just too bulky to be hiking with. I started my elk hunt with this on and was beat just after the first morning using it. And that's without getting to put any meat on it. I purchased it via internet and now know that if I had the opportunity to try it on at the store I would never had purchased it to begin with."

Excellent Quality Pack!,October 27, 2008
By Grizwhispererfrom Moose Pass, Alaska
"A successsful hunting trip used to mean a trip to the chriopractor as well. Got the pack just in time for a moose hunt... we were successful, the pack performed surperbly with comfort like I have not experienced in decades. The sturdy waist belt with the double side pull adjustment is the best of the new features. Did not think the freighter pod would secure huge moose quarters and was amazed how quickly and securely it held them without shifting. My hunting partner borrowed it for his last trip and said that he would be ordering one before next season. Retired my 25 year old frame pack for this one and wish I had done so long ago."

This is one great frame,October 13, 2008
By IslandHunter1from Central Coast, California
"I looked at all the other frames- this one was heavier duty, and had the support shelf at the bottom which really works great for packing quarters out of the back country. It has tons of strap adjustments to help you get the frame adjusted to your needs. One criticism that I do have is that there are so many plastic buckles- some are bound to break. They should include a few extra buckles with the pack. A buddy has the same pack that is 3 or 4 years old, and has had to replace a few of the buckles."

Great Pack,December 11, 2007
By Boomer01from Medina, OH
"Purchased the frame for an Elk hunting trip to Wyoming, and was extremely happy with this product. We packed out 2 elk, and the frames were rugged, easy to adjust, and kept the weight from pulling on your back. Possibly the best product purchased for this trip."

VERY Nice & Comfortable,October 30, 2007
By HeavyC1965from Greeley Colorado
"My hunting partner and I "repeatedly" used two of these last week to haul game out of the back country of Colorado and was extremely pleased with the comfort and convienience of the packs! We were hiking in & out approx 5-10 miles each day and the packs worked great! The padded areas let the air flow as advertised and were simply even more comfortable than could be expected, even with a heavy load of meat or a qtr strapped in it. I unfortunately gave it a four star for only one reason, and that was that the strap ends are plastic which in my experiance does not stand up to repeated use in the field or under higher pressure like when an elk qtr is strapped in. They have held up thus far, but I was babying them just to be safe. I had hope they used metal to help avoid any breaking/cracking. Other than that one flaw (and unfounded) I was very impressed and would still recommend this pack to ANYONE! Thanks again Cabela's!"

My Friends Own Them :-),October 19, 2007
By cusacklafrom Alaska
"Because I recommend them. This frame is awesome! Its heavy duty construction is tailored to packing big loads in extreme conditions. Need to pack that 130 lb raft a mile over rough terrain, that you need a frame that is built to handle it. Need to get a Moose hind quarter to the boat, than I suggest you get this frame. The Cabela’s Outfitter Frame safely and comfortably gets me, the raft and my back to the river. What else can I say! Louis"

Heavy Load!!!,October 15, 2007
By elknutzfrom California
"Good product! With two front elk quarters on my back and going down hill in eight inches of snow, I was as comfortable as I could have been considering the terrain. Wide belt straps fit comfortable around waste and let alot of the weight sit on hips not shoulders. Lots of straps and orange pull out fly held load in place without use of extra rope or twine. hope to use it again next year."

Great for packing out elk,September 26, 2007
By WyoElkfrom Wyoming
"I used the Outfitter Frame Pack to pack out my Wyoming elk by myself in September 2007. It was a very comfortable pack (or as comfortable as packing out an elk at 9,500 feet can be). The pull-out orange cover was very helpful and easily held a front quarter and hind quarter in one load with almost no need for more straps. I also used the pack to get into shape for hunting, putting weight on the pack and hiking up stairs...it is easily the most comfortable external frame pack I have ever worn."

Review 20 for Cabela's Alaskan Outfitter Frame and Harness Only
"I recently purchased a Cabela's Alaskan Outfitter pack frame and have had the pleasure of using it to pack out a 6x6 Montana Bull Elk. I noted upon receiving the frame that it was very versatile and comfortable. Adjustments were easy, and after a few weeks of hauling my 2 and 5 year old around the house sitting and standing on the shelf, I was ready for the field. The freighter pod was effective in holding the load in place. The design and custom fit of this frame alleviated much of the strain.
At just over $100 dollars this frame is an incredible value. Thanks, Cabelas"
