"I have just started to get into duck hunting after a few years of sporadic, at best, duck hunting. I wanted to get hearing protection that also amplified normal level sounds. A friend had a set similar to the Peltors that I bought and he was satisfied with them. I've used them duck hunting several times and was impressed with the sound dampening even before I fired my shotgun. Several times I bumped the butt of my gun against the side of my aluminum boat and the sound was immediately muffled! There is some background static noise but it's not too loud. Windy days (I used them one morning in my tree stand deer hunting) makes this background noise worse due to the rustling of leaves. No matter, I do recommend these."

Works, when it's new.,

"These ear protectors have a few real problems. Changing the batteries is a time-consuming chore. You need a knife or a wee screwdriver to open the battery compartment and there's a serious chance you'll puncture the padded ear muff.
The microphones are covered with thin windfoam or sponge-like material, which crumbles and turns to dust in about a year. Easy to replace? Not really. Peltor customer service suggests that you 'do a web search' for the part. Do that and you'll find that the sponge/foam the size of a dime costs about $9. Plus shipping.
The unit price is average. Noise-suppression is pretty good.
There are other devices that perform as well or better for about the same price, and the competitor's models appear to be more durable, with easy-to-replace batteries and parts."

"Spent four full days on a Nevada firing range with these earmuffs. Silenced the blast noises , but allowed for easy understanding of verbal commands of the Range Master. The temperature was constantly 90+ degrees, but the muffs stayed cool. Would like to know the secret to unwrapping from the original packaging..My son, who also was with me, showed me how."

Great Hearing Protection,

"Tried out the Peltor Tactical 6 and found them to be as advertised. Very good hearing protection insofar as suppressing sound above 82 dB, yet allowing and amplifying normal conversation/sounds. It also folds into itself for easy storage. The only potential downside, to which I was alerted via these reviews, was in changing out the batteries. The reviews warned of difficulty in removing the ear-pieces to expose the battery compartment. Knowing that, I spent a bit more time and carefully leveraged my fingers to easily pry off the ear-pieces - no problem at all."

You get what you pay for,

"I purchased a less expensive set of electronic muffs and returned them for the Peltor Tactical 6 (thanks for the good service, Cabelas) because they did not react well to large caliber handgun sounds at the range. The Peltor 6 is much better because it seems to react faster to muffle the sound, packs up small in the range bag, and allows me to hear conversations and the range officer clearly."

"these work but they got in the way and I could not use them when shooting a rifle. The on-off switch needs better feedback. There is no automatic shutoff and batteries are hard to change."

"Having used passive hearing protection until now, this is the first active device I've used. It does a good job of minimizing rifle noise and still allows near normal hearing. The electronics are quite sensitive and I can hear the receiver click when I close the bolt. If I had to point to a shortcoming, it would be that the click stop when shutting off the headset is not definite enough and the process of inserting and changing batteries is somewhat of a mystery on the first try."

"I do proffessional Fireworks and safety is very important to myself and others around me. The Peltor Hearing Devices worked very well by reducing the nosies to a safe level but I could still hear everything around me. Other devices that I have tried have worked well to reduce noise but they cut out all noise, the loud blasts and peoples voices and it was hard to communicate. The Peltor Devices did both, safe hearing protection and the ability to communicate. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED"

"I own two of the Peltor's that fit behind your head so you can wear a hat while hunting. I now decided to buy the set that goes over your head for range shooting. They're fantastic! I'm hard of hearing (no ear protection when I was younger and in the service), and these devices help me hear when there's no loud report, and when guns are being fired, you hardly notice the noise. Certainly, for the cost, these can't be beat."

I can hear on the range,

"I first used these when I was deployed to Iraq and like them a lot because they gave me hearing protection, but allowed me to talk to my teammates in the vehicle without yelling. They work great on the range too. I bought a set for both myself and my wife and we love them. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because the on/off knobs are easily turned on inadvertantly and if you don't double check them when you put them away, you may have dead batteries when you next want them. Keep a bunch of AAA batteries in your range bag just in case. With these, I have a much easier time getting the wife to the range since we can talk easily and she has a better time. That means more bullets for me."

"The first pair I got had a lot of static on one side. I switced batteries twice and still had the same problem. After wearing them at the range, I ended up turning them off because the static was too distracting.
I called Cabelas and they sent me a replacement pair right away. I love doing business with Cabelas! Customer service is absolutely wonderful. The new pair has no static and works exceptionally well.
The only thing that would make these better is if you could turn the volume up a little louder and wear foam ears under them to double up on protection in extreemly loud environments (indoor shooting ranges).
Overall, a great product. I think that the first pair I got simply slipped past QC. The new pair is awesome."

"The ear protectors do their job. I can talk to others and my ears are protected from the louder sounds. Like most who responded it is almost impossible to get the batteries in. I can't image why they couldn't make it easier. But they are comfortable and work well so I would buy them again."

"These are very comfortable. They fit nice under a cap. The big negative with this product is extreme difficulty in putting in the batteries. In my view this should be a simple task.
Without the problem with the batteries I would have given this product a 5 star rating for cost, comfort and effectiveness."

"I have used these muffs for about two years now. I shot lots of skeet and rifle. I would not be without them at the range. They are hot in summer but that is the only disadvantage. Hey all muffs are. I use rechargeable batteries in them and they last for months. Sure wish they would offer a directional pair. I use them hunting but have to wear them backwards to hear whats behind me. I can see whats up front. All in all a great product at a even greater price. Buy yourself some!"
