Gold Plating,June 14, 2008
By qsaimikfrom PA
"My wife bought me this pistol for Father's day. It is a beautiful pistol. We took it to the range and put 36 rounds through it. It shot a bit high at 25 yards, typical for a 1851 colt. I ended up exchanging it for another model because the gold plating came off the cylinder. I also noticed a few spots where the nickel plating started to peal at the base of the barrel.
If you are looking for a nice decoration for your mantle, this may be the gun for you... but if you are looking to buy a weapon for the range I would go with a case hardened/blued or stainless steel model.
Cabela's was great, exchanged the pistol with no questions asked."

"Everytime we would visit Cabelas, either in Sydney or Lehi, my father-in-law would lust after the nickle plated, engraved 1851 Navy with the gold plated cylinder. I bought it for him for Christmas, and he reallly, really likes it. It is not only beautiful, but also of the highest quality and craftsmanship."
