"Goes great with the 1858 Army black powder .44. Our BSA group is considering starting a Civil War reenactment group and this will fit right in with the theme."

"Order placed by phone from Australia. I'm an ex Marine living in north queensland. Best quality gear for the money at least over here. Must note that after application of oil to soften the holster up the plug at the bottom just let go and came out, only glued in,quick job with leather repair waxed cotton thread and problem des not exist. Do not let my small problem cause you any concern. Best buy on the market

"I AM REALLY PLEASED WITH THE QUALITY OF THIS PRODUCT. THE LEATHER IS VERY THICK AND DURABLE. IT TOOK A WHILE TO BREAK IN, BUT AFTER THAT IS IS GREAT. REALLY OFFERS GOOD PROTECTION TO A FIREARM."

Moderately satisfied,
October 18, 2007
By LoneWolf198

"When I recieved this item the leather was so stiff that the first time I tried to open the holster the rivet pulled apart. The holster is ok, but I had to re-rivet the latch and soften the leather up with mink oil. I have done some leather work, and the only thing that could have made it so unpliable is being soaking when when died."

holster,

By screech

"As with the previous holster from Cabelas this is a bit stiff and hard to snap but should wear in just as the first one did. I must have felt it was worth the time and money as it is my second one. I also bought a CSA in brown at the same time as this one."

Partial recommendation,
August 27, 2007
By MaRefugee
from VA
|
"The flap fastening post pulled out immediately. I had to fix it by pulling the post pin, adding a washer, and refastening. I believe other reviewers had the same problem, so beware. That being said, the holster has a great look and feel otherwise; just like the old Calvary holsters from the Civil War era."

"The Holster is extremely hard and needs a WHOLE lot of work to make it acceptable to place any revolver in. I pulled the flap button out just trying to get the thing open. I will have to restud the button."

Good Leather,

"I was very pleasntly surprised at the quality of this holster. The stitching is tight and strong, the leather would make a good saddle. I used a pint of olive oil conditioning the leather and I do believe the holster will be a family heirloom."

Cavalry Holster,
May 21, 2007
By BuffaloCreekLawDog
from North of the Medicine Line (Alberta, Canada)

"This item was made for a cap and ball revolver however if you want it for a SAA you have to wet the holster with warm water then force your SAA (wrapped in saran wrap) into the holster for about 1/2 an hour. At that time remove the SAA and let the holster dry on its own. Make sure that the SAA did not get any moisture.
Also if you want a holster for the right side butt forward as per US Cavaly, you have to order the LEFT hand holster.
It is a well made holster, I'm pleased with it.

I got a lemon,
May 21, 2007
By MildMyles

"I hope I received a lemon but I took a refund instead of chancing it. The holster showed up and looked nice but the rivet for the "button" that holds the flap down pulled out when I tried to open the flap! Cabela's put the money right back on my credit card but I was disappointed with the holster."

"Very nice holster for the price. The leather was rougher and coarser and not as nice as I had expected, but it is still good looking and functional and will obviously last for many years."

The Best Cavalry Holster You Can Get,
February 20, 2007
By TheElPasoKid
from El Paso, Texas

"This holster is much better than holsters sold by most Civil War sultlers throughout America. It's made by Triple K in California, and they are known for making excellent quality leather goods. It's pricey, but well worth it, since you get a US-made holster that's about twice as strong and better looking as the usual holster you'd buy from a sutler. It's not lined, but neither were the originals, or any holster that's available from sutlers that I know of. I would get this before I would buy from anyone else. I Like it. The flap holder has a brass pin like an original Civil War holster, but it's black. I like it better than unplated brass. The US stamp really stands out, and the leather is waxed, which means it will stand up to water better than plain leather. I give it 5 stars, and would recommend it to anyone looking for this style of holster. Like Triple K belts, which are much better than standard M1855 belts you get from sutlers, the same thing goes for this holster. I wear it on the Triple K black US Civil War belt that I bought from Cabela's. It's a great combination."
