Canada Goose Decoy Paint by Parker,
September 20, 2009
By Rodja
from Astoria, OR
|
"Colors are pretty close to match of a real goose. Paint does seem to harden quickly which requires thinner to make it more appliable. Overall, enough paint to cover 12 Big Foot Canada Goose Decoys."

Mallard Decoy Paint,
September 15, 2009
By ScottyB1
from Minneapolis, MN
|
"Do not waste your time! First of all the paint you get is mostly old and rubberized/unusable. Secondly, the colors are wrong for Mallards. Example; they tell you to use #4 bison brown to paint several shades of brown. Absoulutely impossible to do. The good news is Cabela's made good on the refund!"

Pretty satisfied,
February 12, 2009
By Aholtz

"I am pretty happy with the way my decoys look after using this product.
There definately isn't a bunch of white paint if you choose to use a base coat, which I didn't. The fact that the paint in the jars is hardened is also true to the light of what other reviews have mentioned. I was able to break it up and use the paint though. Also, one jar was not labled in the instructions. Turns out this is the main paint for your hen decoys, not the can listed in the diagram. The can listed in the instructions is too dark a brown. Look at pictures of other decoys and you can get those old blocks looking much better for sure. I would recommend using the diagram as a simple reference point.
All in all if you can figure out the kit and do things on your own, so to speak, you should be pretty happy. Just don't let the paint in the jars sit around once you get your order."

"this kit is for 2 doz decoys. step 1 paint the entire drake (12 of them) with the ONE OUNCE bottle of white paint. called cabelas they refunded my shipping so i could go to the home center for more white paint. the picture of the decoy in the instructions doesn't look like any mallard I have ever seen before. I will use the paint from the kit and mix it with store bought paint to get the colors right, but I will not buy this kit again. The folks I spoke with at cabela's were great and very understanding. This kit isn't so great. Cabela's is still the best"

Inconsistent Quality,
January 8, 2008
By roliremu

"The large jars were good/fine, but the small jars were old and goopy, and much less usable. The colors were good, and adhered to plastic shell decoys as well or better than original paint. Unfortunately, largest amounts provided in the kit were of colors I needed the least. Consider getting individual cans unless you need all the colors."

not enough paint,

By rattrap

"The kit is high quality, the only problem is that the kit does not have enough white paint for the mallard drakes, a call to the company got an additional bottle sent in the mail. If you get a small bottle of white in the kit call to get another bottle so you can actually paint enough drakes."

Matches Flambeau colors pretty well.,
November 5, 2007
By hakerr
from North Newton, Kansas
|
"I am very satisfied with the mallard paint kit. I have decoys that vary from 7-10 years old and have seen much use/abuse as all decoys eventually do. Most of my dekes are Flambeau and the color match of the paint kit is excellent. This allows a full paint job or a minor touch up. The only drawback I can point out is the mallard drake yellow bill color is a little too light and there is no highway orange in the kit for mallard drake feet. As long as the colors are durable, I can live with these minor problems. My blocks have never looked so good, and the ducks must agree. We hunt public ground where the pressure on the birds can be pretty extreme and the birds will often land in the repainted spread. Of course, the Mojo helps too."

green heads and bull sprig,

By Iseral

"I just recived the paints and digrams for the bird color, it was very helpfull , thanks to Cabelos for fixing the prolblem with a few colors that were exposed to air that made the paint hard , they fixed the problem and the decoys are the best in Willows county. As many of you know that it's not all about the hunt , but discovering the colors of the birds and the layout of the decoys that makes it a full experince. R.B."

Mallard decoy paint kit,
October 8, 2007
By Quackdizzymator
from Miami, Florida
|
"Is a good set of colors, the only complaint is that the white does not cover as much as needed, I had to use some other type of white paint. Will always need to spray a matte lacquer finish in order or preserve the paint. I recommend Testors dullcote, it is very hard and is real dull. I will recommend the product, works fine."

Decoy Paints are just O.K,
November 21, 2006
By gduckman
from Nor - Cal CA
|
"These decoy paints are just ok. I repainted about six (6) dozen of my mallard and pintail decoys before the season started. The paint kit comes with a good easy to use paint by number diagram. You must use multiple coats of paint for good coverage and the colors are fairly decent. The paints are not very durable; they started to chip off after only two hunts. The color of the paint also becomes lighter and almost discolored as the decoys wear. I would not compare the paint quality to the original manufacture paint. Like I said this paint kit is OK and will add some realism to decoys that are old and beat up."

Herter's Decoy Paints,
November 21, 2006
By RadioDemon
from "LA"-Lower Alabama-deep south
|
"The paint set is a complete set with all colors needed to do the designated types of waterfowl. The colors are very true to life and match up well with real birds. I have used two sets of paints. The Wood-Duck set is a perfect match! My old set of decoy's had been thru a few too many seasons, the wear and tear showing profusely, and now they look like I bought them yesterday. The Mallard Paint set also is a very good match. I used them on all of my Mallard dekes, not all of which are of the Herter's brand. The paint seems to stick quit well to all plastics and once again I feel as if I have a whole new set of blocks to start the season with. The quantity of the paint matches the quality. I have painted two dozen Mallard blocks and still have paint left to do at least one more dozen and possibly a few more than that. If used at a "touch-up" paint these sets could last for years! I have saved the best for last. Simple clean-up. Just soap and water and brushes are good as new. Thinning the paints is accomplished with plain water."
