"Used this converter to make a smoker out of a old freezer! It works great and all of my friends love the smoked goodness!! Keeps my big freezer smoker at about 200 degrees which is perfect for smoking! I did use a bigger pan for more hickory shavings so i dont have to open the door as often!!"

"Good quality You have to get used to the one setting extra hot took a while to get the right temperature by venting But it is a lot better than using charcoal to maintain temperature."

Smoker Electric Converter,
June 23, 2009
By EMDM
from MO Smoker
|
"This is my second electric converter. The first lasted about ten years and may have lasted longer if it was kept clean of grease around the base or where it comes through the metal. I still need to keep the smoker covered or at least out of the wind for consistency but with the help of a remote thermometer it’s hard to go wrong."

Needs a thermostat,
May 4, 2009
By smokerjohn
from Las Vegas, NV
|
"The product works as designed, However it's a cheap device, little more than a charcoal lighter which does a really marginal job.
With a thermostatic control it would be acceptable, without, it is a poorly designed waste of money as far as I am concerned.
My previous smoker, an electric had a thermostatic adjustment, and I expected for the price I paid, that the converter I purchased would have one too.
I purchased the converter so as not to have to manually modulate the smoker temperature as when smoking/slow cooking with charcoal. Without the thermostatic control I still have to monitor the cook and adjust the temperature unlike the electric smoker I used to own."

Smoker Electric Converter,
February 3, 2009
By Converter
from Biloxi, MS
|
"I purchased the Smoker Electric Converter and tried to use it as soon as I recieved it. The temp outside was about 45 degrees and I couldn't the temp in the smoker pass 110 degrees. It didn't work for me at all. I plugged the Converters cord into the outlet to see if that would give me more heat, but nothing worked. I'm really not satified with the product and as for the ribs I was trying to smoke, I finished cooking them in the stove. Thanks"

Jerky and deer summer sausage,
January 8, 2009
By Bearkatman
from Ripley,Mississippi
|
"I purchased the electric smoker converter and installed it in a home made electric jerky dehydrater-summer sausage cooker . I installed a thermostat and fans in the cabinet 2x3x60 inches. I have installed racks to hang sausages and three sets of Cabelas jerky racks with screens to dry deer. I have pushed it to the limit , especially with drying over a hundred deer and counting for me and my hunting buddies. Not one minutes trouble with the electric converter element. It will surely GET ER DONE."

Great for Weber Smoky Mountain Electric Conversion,
November 3, 2008
By smokerluke
from NC
|
"I converted my WSM into an electric smoker with this, and it works great. Holds the temp between 220-260 depending on the outside temp and the amount of extension cord you use. I acutally have to add a 50ft extension cord on warm days to keep it cool enough. On cool days (40 degrees F), I use a 25 ft extension cord (14 guage), and it holds between 220 and 230. Perfect for smoking!"

Needs a little easy modification,
September 29, 2008
By Anonymous
from Dingmans Ferry, PA
|
"The wood pan that comes with the unit is just too small for effective smoking. I simply replaced it with a standard cake pan (be careful to get one WITHOUT non-stick coating) and it works perfectly. Also, to assist in getting the smoker up to ideal temperature more quickly, I placed hot water in my water bowl so that the unit didn't waste time and energy fighting to bring cold water up to temp. Overall, I am extremely happy with this unit; it's nice to be able to just plug it in and not have to play around with controlling the temp of charcoal, the mess afterwards, etc. Wish I had found this sooner."

smoker elecrtic converter,
September 5, 2008
By backpackradio

"I bought this item to replace the charcoal burning tray in my Brinkman smoker. I am happy I did. Two comments need to be made: 1. If an extension cord is necessary, use the shortest one possible.. use a 12 AWG cord such as an air conditioner extension. 2. The converter won't deliver the heat of a burning charcoal fire, but after all, this is a SMOKER!"

Electric Option,

By tmc0381
from On a TN lake somewhere watching football.

"My old reliable H2O smoker is rejuvenated with this purchase.
I no longer have to fool with charcoal, and lighter fluid on wet cold rainy or adverse days. This product keeps the temperature constant, the wood chips smoldering, and the brisket or boston butt just fine.
I can watch the game, and the product just comes out right, when the recipe for smoked meats say it should."

"The only problem I have with it ,is that there is no way to control the tempeture and no on off switch. It just has a plug to attach to an extention cord. So its either on or off. But its still better then using charcoal"
