"Due to weather, I have not been able to use the rifle rest for shooting. However, I have been using it quite a bit to hold rifles that I have been cleaning. It is a good stable platform."

Too High,
February 3, 2009
By Hcath
from Carpenter, WY

"When the forearm rest and front legs are in their very lowest position the rifle is still pointing too high for targets that are at ground level. The only adjustments from that point are up. The rest seems to be of good quality, but not a great design."

"IT IS TOO HARD TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS, TAKES TOO MUCH TIME AND EFFORT TO SET UP TO FIRE AND TO MAKE ALL THE ADJUSTMENTS AFTER EVERY SHOT THE SCREWS DO NOT MOVE SMOOTHLY ALMOST NEED A WRENCH TO ADJUST ONE OF THEM NOT USER FRIENDLY IT DOES WORK WELL ONCE ALL ADJUSTMENTS ARE MADE"

Cabelas Elite Rifle Rest,
January 4, 2009
By NorthwoodsShooter
from Johannesburg, Michigan
|
"This is a nice tool to have to quickly and efficiently sight in your gun. Compact and solidly built. The fine adjustment screws are great for getting the cross hairs on target. I have read the other reviews and I too have a chipped/ scrached rifle stock because of this rest. I have not had the problem with the front pad falling off after a shot. Mine seems to stay in place quite well. My complaint is the two upright supports on the back of the rest. The edges of the two uprights are not covered or padded at all. So during the rcoil of each shot, the butt stock of my rifle drags along the sharp edges of these uprights. I cured the problem with some self stick felt, but I still have a scrached up rifle. For as many issues that have been reported in so few reviews, Cabelas or the manufacturer should do something about this."

A Bench rest only,
September 25, 2008
By Steve9999

"Unlike other rests I've used, this one is a pain to adjust when you are using it in the field. Adjusting three foot screws is time consuming and the ratchet elevation adjustment has increments that are way too large."

Great rest with a little modification,
March 4, 2008
By PowderPusher
from Danielson, CT
|
"This rest is stable and well built. The fine height adjust works well but the coarse height adjustment screws are not user friendly. The velcro on the rest that holds the bag came off when I first used the rest. I modified the rest a bit to make it better. I glued the velcro strip to the metal bag rest with high strength glue. I worried about the metal edges on the bag rest damaging my gun, tearing fabric during transport, and causing personal injury. To correct this flaw, I slit, mounted, and glued 1/4" tubing around the metal plate. I also mounted knobs on the coarse adust screws to make the adjustment easier. These small changes made this rest as easy to use and dependable as more expensive rests."

Cabela's Elite Rifle Rest very rugged,
February 6, 2008
By Bowhunt4fun
from MI
|
"For the price its not terrible.....atleast so I thought. First time I shot off from it to sight in a Triumph the front bag came off from the base...scraped up the bottom of the gun pretty bad. The sticky side of the velcro decided not to stick to the base any longer. Now the bag comes off from the base after every shot. Also the rear leg bent when shooting the shotgun. The legs have wingnuts that lack any type of quality control before being sent out. the wing nuts have ears on them that stickup from the casting process which doesnt not allow them to tighten down on the base. Overall I think its not worth your money....will be returned to cabelas soon."

"This rest holds multiple guns with little adjustment. The only problem I had was the lever on my Ruger No. 1 hit the frame so I had to move the gun each time I shot and then realign after getting loaded. I would strongly recommend this item."

O.K. for the price,
January 8, 2008
By mirro166

"The portion of the rest for the gun is very good. The micro adjustment part is rough, not too micro and you have to fiddle with it alot. The three point leg rough adjusters have loose threads until you lock them with the wing nuts. The rest looks good, paint, stock strap and front bag rest, but the three point bolts are a matt no finish metal and looks cheap. The rest works but I wouldn't buy it again."

nicked up my new stock,
December 23, 2007
By LYN2003
from REYNOLDSVILLE , PA

"I shot about ten shots out of my 8 mm mouser that I sporterized. On the eleventh shot the sand bag fell off in the midle of the shot. So when the gun settled down it put a nice dint in it. I think the that the the velcro is just taped on is stuped, and cabelas should put a sand bag that ties on. I would give 5 stars if it did not damige my that I worked on for 2 month's."

"The first time out the backing on the velcro pad failed to stay attached to the rest. This resulted in a scrathed forend on my rifle. Finally got the forend rest to stay attached with a bungee cord. Poor design."
