"I've had my Filson Double Mac for nine years, and it's one of my most cherished pieces of gear. It's warm, comfortable, looks great, and is made right here in the US. It's a little heavy and bulky for the ultralight backpack crowd, but for a solid hunting coat that won't let you down when the weather turns sour, it's very hard to beat a good Filson wool coat. I'm keeping mine until I die. Then my kids can start wearing it."

"As expected this wool hunting jacket is really nice. Heavy wool, double upper half and arms are going to be very warm hunting the Adirondacks in late fall. The construction is awesome. This jacket will last a lifetime. I normally wear an XL and this coat in Large fit great with some room to layer light underneath. And to think I almost bought a Beagle Wear wool coat instead. I'm glad I went with the Filson."

"I have three Filson Double Mackinaw Cruisers. I got the first one twenty-five years ago and wore it to work with a coat and tie. I also wore it hiking in rain and snow and for trips town all fall, winter and spring. After 10 to 15 years the nap was worn off in higher wear areas, the buttons had been sewn back on a few times, and finally the button holes were just plain wearing out in spite of being reinforced a few times. But it was the coffee stains down the front that made me decide to give it to my brother.
The second coat got the very same treatment, except I didn't give that one to my brother. Years after I got it my wife was putting some new thread around the button holes, checked it out and announced that I better get a new one to wear when we go out, so I did. But the old one's not worn out.
Oh, when I was in Minneapolis I got caught with colder weather without a warm coat so I asked my brother if he still had that old Filson I gave him. He said, "yeah" and went to the barn where the coat had been hanging. I shook it and spot cleaned some areas with a wet cloth, then put it on. Pretty? Only from a distance, but it still blocked the wind and kept me warm. My brother said I could use his barn as a closet any time. I took the coat back to Michigan and use it for chores. Worn out? Nope, I'm not sure if you can wear them out.
These coats are made with very heavy wool, and with wool's breathability you can work hard while wearing one. Sure, it costs one-third more than something imported, but well worth the money for a reliable friend with American quality manufacturing."

"This is a great coat. I have 2. One is Timber Camo(which I did not get a Cabelas) and it is fantastic for bow hunting. The other is charcoal and looks dressy enough to wear to work everyday. These are super well made and very warm. Sizing is generous. I wear a 44 suit coat and probably could of gotten away with a 42 in this coat. I am happy with the extra room though, especially in the Timber color as I wear layers under it on hunts. I highly recommend this coat. It will serve you a life time for sure. This is one you will be passing down to the kids!!!!!"

"Old school workmanship which seems hard to find these days with work being shipped out all over the world. Glad that it's made in North America. Excellent stitching and generous fit as advertised. Surprisingly warm!! I have worn this jacket already in -20 C and was toasty. Had it taken in a little around the waist as was a little drafty but otherwise great fit. Its the kind of jacket that one will pass down through generations.

"I have owned a Filson Double Mack in green for ten years now and it is built like a Mack truck. It was a present from my mother in law and have since purchased maybe a dozen other Filson garments. The quality CANNOT be beat. I own three or four coats, (always looking to add another) sometimes there are little fit flaws like I agree with one review about the button at the neck on the double mack being too tight. I love these garments so much that I am willing to overlook some fit or design flaws to own such awesome outdoor clothing. They are a pleasure to own and wear. I get lots of compliments on most of them. I own their guide sweater, two moleskin shirts, two belts, wool hunting pants,(camo) two hats, a couple of wool liners and probably other stuff I'm forgetting about. If you have an opportunity to own a genuine Filson garment, BUY IT! don't worry about the money. You will wear out other garments well before you wear out anything from Filson. I remember one really cold opening day deer season in Mass. and I was in a tree stand. I had to hug this tree a slid down a ways, I was sure my Filson guide sweater was ruined! Surely a thread was pulled or snapped or some pilling? Well, Not a scratch! I'm sold!!!"

"I BOUGHT THIS COAT TEN YEARS AGO IN A FOREST GREEN COLOR. I LIVE IN A RAINY CLIMATE AND I RUN A LITTLE HOT, SO I ONLY WEAR IT WHEN IT GETS FROSTY OUTSIDE. MY COAT STILL LOOKS NEW AND I GET ALOT OF COMPLIMENTS ON IT. OTHER PEOPLE WHO OWN ONE CAN SPOT YOU A MILE AWAY WHEN YOU'RE WEARING IT AND USUALLY COMMENT ON IT, THEY HAVE A VERY UNIQUE DESIGN AND APPEARANCE. THE WOOL IS VERY NICE QUALITY. IT'S COMFORTABLE AND WILL LAST ME A LIFETIME. A LITTLE PRICEY BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. QUALITY IS TOP NOTCH. NO REGRETS HERE."

"High quality and durable, I'm sure it will last forever. I do think such a warm garment should have a better neck closure, maybe a collar that buttons all the way up around the neck. Also I wish they made womens sizes; I'm going to alter mine a little so it fits better. But overall a really high quality coat for knocking around in the woods in all weather."

"I bought my double mack about 6 years ago and it still looks brand new -- that's a great benefit to wool garments. It keeps me warm in the coldest of conditions. Wool is also great in wet conditions. The coat can get pretty wet without ever losing its ability to keep you warm and dry.
My only complaint is that it is rather heavy. When I'm moving around a lot, the weight can be noticeable. I also have a tendency to overheat. If conditions aren't brutal and I plan a lot of climbing, I opt for a lighter coat with a wool undershirt. If you're a very active hunter, then I'd probably find a lighter weight coat."
