"Plenty of room for my M&P 40c, 3 clips, and a box of 20 cartridges. Used the cable to connect the safe. No worries about leaving gun at home. Easy access when at home with the versatility of a four, five or six finger code. Light doesn't stay on long enough, but that is what a flashlight is for. Am thinking of buying a second safe for the car if need to leave handgun in car. I will look at other GunVault products for use in the car."

"I'ts an okay safe. Wish i had spent a little more for a better safe. Hate how it has holes throught the bottom for securing the safe, but you have to drill holes for the security cable. Directions read poorly. I dented the heck out of the safe trying to punch through the recessed area for the cable, finally had to drill it out and it now cosmetically looks bad. Why not just put a small hole there for us, like they do for mounting the safe? the combination erases if the batteries fail. the hand imprint and pressing the various buttons for your code is also odd and takes getting used to. i don't see the value in it. The location of the batteries within the safe are difficult to access. Overall, not well engineered or well thought out."

"I gave the vault a rating of 4 stars because of one annoying flaw. Even though the deluxe model comes with an AC adapter you still have to use batteries because if the power goes out and you don't have batteries as backup the keypad will reset itself to the factory default. Other than that I really like the keypad and I like the fact that it has a tamper alarm. I'm pleased overall."

"Set it up on the night stand next to the bed. Allows quick / safe access to one handgun. It was a little difficult to do the initial setup. You have to get both hands into the vault and insert and tighten the screws that hold the batteries in place. You have to work by feel since you cannot see what you are doing. With fat clumsy hands there is very little room and it is hard to get the screws started. After a couple of false starts, I was able to get it setup. Other than the setup, it has performed as expected."

"The deluxe version has the interior light and an anti-motion sensor. The light is great at 3AM when your brain may not have fully engaged after being woken up suddenly. The anti-motion sensor is great if you have kids that think they are smarter than you and think they can take the safe somewhere else to try and work out your code (it will time out and lock itself after a certain number of tries, so time is on your side). Outstanding security and quick access are balanced nicely.
My only complaint was the upper padding wasn't secured any longer when it arrived so I took it out until I have the time to go get some rubber cement and hang it again. Overall, not a major problem."

"The door on this safe was always difficult to latch closed. Stopped working completely after 1 month. I am calling for an RMA. I saw another review of this safe elsewhere that stopped working also. The user got a replacement from the factory no questions asked. They included a return shipping label. I hope the replacement works better than this one. Seems like I am the only one with a defective latch
There were some produced during April of 2008 that would open if you knocked on the door under the latch. Gunsafe says this was a defect and only the Aril 2008 safes were affected and have been fixed."

"I was surprised with the structural integrity of this vault. I didn’t expect it to be built this sturdy. Once I programmed it (Deluxe) I was in for another surprise. Very easy soft pad punches then the door just flew open. The interior has an instant lit but only momentary dim lit light that comes on as soon as the door cracks open. It's just enough to illuminate the content of the safe but tolerable to the eye when awakening from a sound sleep. The light gives you just enough time to orient yourself with your weapon before it is extinguished. My 40 ACP and my 380 lay flat in there without coming on contact with one another and there is still enough room for jewelry and un-used credit cards. I bought the security cable. It looks like tungsten. I know how difficult that is to cut with typical shears, almost impossible. I would highly recommend the Deluxe for the simple fact that to operate and overcome such a sturdy latch mechanism, you’d only want to rely on the 8 AA batteries as back-up. You wouldn’t want to depend on them for day to day operation of this heavy latch. Don’t look at it like the batteries don’t last long; look at it like the mechanism is beefy enough to take that kind of energy to manipulate. It also has a very sensitive motion sensor that cancels when you open the door by key-pad. I wouldn’t use this day by day but it’s a great feature when you go on vacation. I think greatest usefulness beside the fact that I know my guns are out of reach when friends with kids visit, is that I can keep a fully loaded gun in there and just open the door at night when I go to bed and just click it shut when I get up for work in the morning. In this day and age, it is seldom that I walk away feeling like I really got something for my buck but I’m very pleased with this purchase and feel it is worth every penny."

"This little strongbox works well. I have a few nit-picks:
- When entering a wrong code, it will wait until the number of keys (4-6) of the correct code are pressed before giving the error beep. This tells the intruder the number of keys in the real code, possibly making it easier to guess the code.
- When entering code, there must be significant pause in between button pushes. It takes a long time to enter 6 keys, at least longer than I thought it would.
- Unit should include stick-on rubber feet to keep from sliding on hard surface."

"Don't count on the "alarm" feature if that's a main reason for you to buy this. Mine went off at 1:00 AM after having it for two weeks. Nothing reasonable prompted this to happen, and nothing short of removing both sources of power would stop it from sounding. After talking with the tech support at the manufacturer, it's something of a "glitch" that could happen for no reason at all. Having said that, it wouldn't stop me from buying this unit as it is the best means of keeping handguns from un-authorized access and still provide easy access to me. The alarm feature use is optional, and I'm happy to just leave it "off" as having this screwed down to the top of my dresser keeps me from worrying about this being carried off. The larger size that I have easily fits two .40 cal. semi-autos, a couple hundred rounds of ammo, a couple of extra clips, and probably a bit more. The inside light is handy and gives off enough light in a dark room to let you grab whatever quickly."

"We purchased the Gunvault for our his-and-hers Springfield Armory XDs. It shipped quickly and was in perfect shape on arrival. Instructions are clear and easily followed. When not carrying the weapon daily it is stored before leaving the house. It is immediately retrieved on arriving home.
This is a convenient, quick-access way to store two handguns and magazines (three or more if you remove the shelf, store in a vertical rack, or if you have pocket size pistols) particularly to protect them from inquisitive little hands. It will also most likely deter the 'casual' intruder- like a local teenager looking for money or valuables that could be esily converted to... whatever.
It is well made, easy to operate, and customizable. The loud keypad beeps are easily turned off, and combinations are quickly and easily changed. The courtesy light is convenient. I like the thing.
It would also mount easily in a car or SUV should you need to securely store a weapon in an unusual circumstance. (I would find a way not to leave any weapon in a car- but that's my personal standard.)
My only concern is that convenience comes at a cost. This safe will deter a chance intruder. Even securely bolted down (which I have done - I would not use the screws supplied) it will NOT stop a professional thief with tools. At best it will slow him down - and if he doesn't want to linger, he may just decide to leave it and its contents behind. More likely, he'll carry it away to a safe place to work on - but he will probably have quite a time getting it open.
For convenience and general security I would recommend it. If it were made of 10 gauge steel instead of 16, and weighed 50 pounds, I'd like it even better."

"Didn't expect Fort Knox when I ordered it. Just needed something to keep it out of sight and out of mind from the teenagers. Works fine for that. Only issues are the Foam keeps coming loose from the Top and you still need batteries even if you plug it in. Minor issues though. All and All if you want something to deter access from honest people, this will work fine for you."

"I only had one concern in purchasing this safe - will it open every single time? In a couple of weeks of use, having opened the safe 75+ times I can confidently state "Yes". I try it at least 2x per day and every time it springs open without a hitch. I rated this product 5 stars as a result of its performance on the function most critical to me.
This safe is a great size for a single handgun. I would love to see a similar safe with the same height dimensions with a larger width. The larger model will not fit in most bedside drawers. This model is a great size for the drawer, but too narrow for 2 handguns to comfortably fit.
The positioning of the power cord could be improved to allow flexibility on how the safe can be positioned, or simply improved with a connecter that is more flush to the safe itself (the positioning of the cord requires an extra inch on the side of the safe)."
