Cabela's exclusive Winter 800™ hunting boot is engineered to weather every extreme you'll ever encounter from backwoods to the highcountry. Rain, snow, dew and the waters of an icy mountain stream roll off the heavily oiled nubuck leather upper. Add to that a 100% waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX® bootie, and you've got a hunting boot that is guaranteed to protect your feet from anything that can dampen a trip to the mountains. That's why we added an insulating layer of 800-gram Thinsulate™ Ultra insulation. This heat-trapping insulation maintains your body's natural warmth without weight and bulk. Meindl's patented removable Air-Active footbed also wicks moisture away and allows air to flow around your foot with every step. Thick polyurethane midsoles absorb all the punishment dished out by uneven terrain. The entire boot is uniquely constructed to maximize ankle support - a safety feature that no serious mountain hunter would live without. Plus, we included an oversized padded collar that eliminates blister-causing pressure points along your calf and flexes with your leg muscles for a natural walking motion. A full rubber rand surrounds the uppers to protect the leather from the abrasion and abuse dished out by rocky mountain terrain. Multi-directional Vibram outsoles provide the climbing and braking traction required for safe uphill and downhill travel.
Height: 11".
Average weight: 4.6 lbs./pair.

Best Boots, November 19, 2009
By Sur5 from Western Canada

"I have just purchased my second pair of these boots. They are absolutely the best boot that I have ever had. I wore the first pair into the ground under some of the harshest conditions in Western Canada. They were on my feet winter and summer through mud, snow, muskeg and sand, day in and day out. I never had to worry about having wet or sore feet. They lasted for years through all of the abuse that I could put them through. I have just started wearing my new set and find them to be of equal quality and hope to get the same service from them. I would reccomend these to anyone who requires a rugged boot."

Excellent Boot, November 12, 2009
By eelecurb from Airdrie, Alberta, Canada

"I purchased these boots just days prior to the rifle season and found them to be well worth their hefty price. There was a brief break in period and the left boot was squeaky but worked it's way out with "sno seal" all season leather protection. Definitely order a half size larger to accomodate wearing a heavier sock.

I've had them out for 10 full days of hunting in the Foothills of central Alberta, Canada where I've put on several miles pushing bush, crossing shallow waters and still hunting in temperatures ranging from -10 deg. celsius to plus 10 degrees celsius. The boots fit like a glove, offer great support, and kept me warm and dry. My toes did get a little cold after sitting for 3 1/2 hours in a blind with temperatures hovering around freezing. I would definitely purchase another pair in the future!

"Great boots I was tired of buying boot that wore out after one or two seasons. After reading all the reviews, I decided to bite the bullet and spend the extra money. What I got is a boot I can depend on for years. Waterproof plenty of ankle support and warm.

I love these boots!, January 8, 2009
By TwoBull from Kalispell, Montana

"A friend recommended these to me on a cold hunting day when my feet were freezing in my Danner's. I suggested them as a wish list item to my fiance and she bought them as a Christmas present! I couldn't wait to put them on! So far this cold snowy winter, my feet have been toasty warm, comfortable, and the traction is amazing! I am counting down the days for October's Elk Season! Good Hunting!"

Meindl still best, January 5, 2009
By FishingPhil from Graytown, Ohio

"I've always liked every pair of Meindl Boots purchased in the past and Cabela's Winter 800 Hunting Boot by Meindl are no exception! If there are better boots made than Meindl, then I just haven't seen them yet! I believe that generally you get what you pay for and these boot fulfill that expectation. Sure there are boots that cost less and that is what you'll get...less boot! I wear these boots everyday, all day and don't even want to take them off until just before going to bed!"

Great Boots, November 22, 2008
By SGMan from Gautier, MS

"I ordered the boots on a Friday and they were scheduled to be delivered two days after hunting season opened. I contacted Cabelas and asked to change the shipping b/c I needed the boots by opening day. However, I was told it was too late to change the shipping terms to have them shipped sooner. I accepted their response and decided it was my fault for not choosing a shorter shipping time. To my surprise, the boots arrived two days later, which was two days before opening day of deer season. Thanks Cabelas!

As for the boots, they are comfortable and seam to be very well made. the fit was a perfect match to my shoe size. I hunted today and it was 30 degrees when I got into the woods. I wore one pair of fairly thick wool socks and my feet stayed warm. Some reviews complained about a long break-in period for these particular boots but I did not find it to be a problem. Yes, they were a little stiff but they loosend up fairly quickly. I walked, climbed and even jogged a short distance in them today and they were very comfortable. It's hard to imagine why it's taking some people a couple of weeks to fully break-in these boots. They are every bit as comfortable as the 7" Perfekt Hikers that I've had for years. The only thing I may change about the boots is the lacing. I prefer the thicker laces on my hiking boots to the thinner strings on the Winter 800s. I tend to lace my boots fairly tight and the thinner laces of the Winter 800s or a little more difficult to grip. Aside from that, these seam to be excellent boots and like anything else, time will tell the full story.

Best Boot I Ever Owned, September 16, 2008
By MarcFC from Phoenix, AZ

"These are the best boots I have ever owned. I am traditionally a Vasque customer. An AK sheep/Griz hunt had me looking for 800 g boots. I didn't like the Red Setter offerings. I chose this boot. I walked over 30 miles over 6 months to break these in. When I got to AK, I found 2 other people wearing these boots, including my outfitter. These are high enough to cross minor streams, light enough to not kill you and water proof enough to make my guide envious. If you are doing anything serious in the cold, GET THESE BOOTS."

Great boots once broken in., February 27, 2008
By CaliforniaRick from S.F Bay Area

"Like all Meindl boots, the construction and materials used in the Cabelas/Meindl Winter 800's are 1st rate.
Two months prior to buying the winter 800's, I purchased a pair of the Meindl Canada boots. The Canada boots are the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. The 800's were purchased for a specific hunt in the snow, I thought the extyra warmth would help my feet stay warm. The problem I have with the 800's is that the tongue digs into the top of your leg. The boots construction is much tougher (thicker) than the Canada boot. After one day in the field I switched back to the Canada boots and used them during the rest of my hunt.
I have since started to wear the 800's to break them in. I suggest if your purchasing this boot for a specific hunt or you plan to use them continuously for more more than a couple days, you bring a back up boot with you.
Unless your hunting in the Yukon, the Canada boots will keep your feet plenty warm. The boots break in time is a fraction of the 800's.
I hope this helps everyone.

Too Narrow, May 22, 2007
By Wbypoor from Birmingham, Alabama

"I ordered these boot for an upcoming December elk hunt in Colorado. The construction and overall quality of the boots are great however I found them too narrow in 11.5EE and too long in 12EE, thus was forced to return both pair. I normally wear an 11 and was disapointed in the fit as I was looking forward to giving the boots a good workout this winter."

Great support, great comfort, rugged, April 22, 2007
By SideOfMountainHunter

"I have been hunting the northern PA mountains for years. I had been having a great time, from the ankles up! Hunting boots had great traction and insulation, but the support and torsional rigidity on 45 degree, snow-and-leaf-covered mountainsides was not good. Hiking boots gave me comfort and support, but were cold when motionless for more than 10 minutes, and had much less traction than my hunting boots. Boot selection for me is poor because of a wide foot and the lack of other than middle widths from many boot manufacturers. Enter the Meindl-made Cabella's Winter 800! They were 11" high and came in EE! They had more support than my hiking boots, but were as comfortable. Lateral still-hunting on the steep mountain grades was almost easy with the boots' stiffness and torsional rigidity. The tread kept me from slipping on snow and leaves (mostly!). Even after crossing a 9-eyelet-high unfrozen stream and waiting hours for Bambi in 30 degree wet snowy weather, they were dry and as warm as any other hunting boot I've had. The rocky terrain was handled easily - boots were rugged as heck with full-grain leather and wrap-around rubber bumpers. And when I returned exhausted each day from 12 hours of hunting, my feet were still alive. Tired, yes; but unblistered, without sore pressure points, and not aching. So, if you want comfortable, rugged, warm, supportive boots for hard hunting, these Meindl-made babies are well-worth every penny of the high price tag. A caution - these boots are the real thing. They will need a sizeable break-in period. And be careful how you fold the sides of the tongue to avoid sore spots."

Meindl Hunting Boots, April 7, 2007
By woodsone from I live in Va. in the Alleghany Mountains

"I must admit this pair of boots was my back up choice, I had ordered a pair of Perfekt Hunters by Meindl and they never made it out of the house. I did notice right out of the box the noise they made and they went back. I do thank Cabela's for the service they have given to me now and over the years. The last pair of hunting boots I had purchased from them lasted for better than 10 years of hard hunting in an area that is steep and rough. I have started the break in period for the Winter 800 and look forward to some time to give them a try this spring turkey season, I like the fit and they feel great on your feet and offer more support for the ankles. Thanks again for the great products you offer for hunters and even the ones as myself who now have more than a few miles on them. Rick"

best boots ever!, March 15, 2007
By mackenziens

"Bought these Meindl's a year ago and am absolutely blown away. Hunted deer in Northern MN and they withstood the cold very well. Everyone must realize that they are not meant for stand-hunting. The ankle support is second to none. After putting sno-seal on, they were totally water proof! No such thing as blisters anymore either. Worth every penny. I love these boots so much that I'm going to buy a pair of Alaskan Hikers for warmer weather hunting."
