Works well in Siberia,

"My family lives in Siberia, Russia. You think it gets cold where "you" live? :) Having to break the ice in my dog's water bowl 5 times a day wasn't much fun, so I purchased this from Cabelas and am not disappointed. I know you're not "supposed" to, but I run it on a 220v transformer and an extension cord with "zero" problems.
Most of the reviews are accurate here and you will get some ice in the bowl around the -10 F to -20 F range, but there should be enough ice free space for the dogs to still drink. I just chip the outside ring of ice out with a thin metal scraper. It breaks up fairly easy. Only when we have had temps around -30 F or worse does the bowl completely freeze up, or when we have a good wind come in (we don't measure wind chill here).
I am a realist and know this bowl wasn't designed for Siberia. No matter to me. It has been a tremendous help to me and my dogs and I would recommend it to anyone.
I have a lot of gear from Cabelas and each product helps our family live here much more easily. Maybe they will let me be an "official" tester of their cold weather products???"

"I bought this for the outside cats because thier water was always frozen.This bowl keeps it unfrozen.the only problem is that it is big for like a german shepard.Wish they sold a smaller one.but it was the only one I could find.Serves its purpose."

"Great price for a convenient watering method for your dog on those cold mornings. After it drops lower than 10 degrees ice formed around the edges but the center remained open for our dog to drink from. It holds a lot of water and is very sturdy and well made. It won't tip over easily."

"This heated water bowl does not keep the water from freezing at cold temperatures. I live in Nebraska and the temperature at night dropped into the teens and single digits and the water in the bowl froze. The water might have not been froze on the very bottom but that doesn't do my dog any good when the top 2-3" of water is froze. I will agree that the temperature was cold but the bowl was located on my deck close to the house. If the bowl has temperature limits then it should be stated in the description."

"I purchased this bowl a week ago at a Cabela store. It worked great until the temperature got down to 20. Then a thin ice sheet formed over the surface. Yesterday, with the temperature around 12, it became an ice skating rink. It took a hammer to break up the ice.
This is the first product I've purchased at Cabela's that performed poorly. This product just doesn't do the job!"

"Just recently purchased this item and I am thrilled with it! It is cold up here in Northern Ontario and I have 2 large dogs that spend some 1/2 days outside. It works great...it is solid, large and keeps the water just cool for them. I also use it for the birds! Birds that have access to water will come more frequently and stay...and sometimes I get more interesting birds because of the water! I am thinking of ordering several more! "I recently bought the heated water bowl for the feral critters who stop by outside for a nighttime snack. The bowl is great, wish it could be a little smaller though (that's why not a 5 star rating). The water does not freeze and it is kept at a lukewarm temperature. All of the outside critters don't seem to mind that at all."

"This doesn't work. I tried it in Wisconsin when it was 25 degrees & it froze up tight. They also need to make it chew proof on the cord area. They have a coil wire that's suppose to protect it, but doesn't work. I would not recommend this to anyone."
