Those aren't shell loops,October 13, 2009

"The review dated 04Jan09 states they don't like the shell loops. I don't think your ammo is going to ride to well up there! Those are loops to put vegetation in, for camoflauge.
I like the suggestion from the 05Aug09 review, about using the polyurethane paint. I was waiting for Cabela's to correct the problem of the Gore-tex not being on the brim of the hat. But couldn't wait, so I'll try the poly paint."

"Wore this hat every day for 8 days in Colorado. Rained every day and hailed twice. Hat kept my head dry. Only improvement I would like to see is to make the brim water repellant as well as the crown. Otherwise a great product."

"This boonie fit perfectly and is very comfortable. I have only tried it in the rain once so far and it performed as described. My head stayed dry and no water down the back of my neck. It is a little warm in the heat. Another great product from Cabela's."

"With a simple modification, this can be a terrific rain hat. As sold, the wet brim rim wicks back to the head and drips down the neck. This can be fixed by painting a ring of polyurethane paint on the underside of the rim. The outer half of the rim is plenty. An added benefit is additional stiffening. Fold the hat sideways when stuffed in your pack. You will never use a rain hood again! Great for sun protection, and with netting, mosquitoes. (I wish they sold netting for this.)"

"Looks OK, but didn't like the shell loops around the outside hatband area (colored black it interfered with the camo pattern in my opinion). Also, too bad the brim is not Gore-Tex like the main body. That may or may not have been a functinal issue in the field.
Due to the combination of the above, and the fact that my size was "in between", I chose to return for refund.
As usual, Cabela's handled this without a hitch...this is why I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years. Thanks guys!"

"Great Hat - I have worn Bonnie hat in the Army overseas so I am comfortable with the design - This Cabela Gore-Tex version is a signifcantly better hat then the one I wore in Iraq
I purchased the Blaze Orange version - wore it on a day it rained all day - This Hat was awesome kept the rain from draining down my neck behind my gore-tex raingear and kept my head dry and the rain off my glasses.
Wore it again on a 18 degree F morning - with a small felt hat it worked great. I cant say it helped me take an eight pointer that day - but I can say it didnt interfer with sighting when I took that deer down.
Great hat - will recommend it to anyone"

"I wore the "Boonie Hat" in Vietnam and find yours as comfortable and practical. Keeps the Rain and Snow out of your eyes and allows you to use a scoped rifle without the worry of the brim interferiing with the scope when you bring it up to look through it.
