Meindl's knowledge and attention to quality has been passed down through generations and this boot is proof. The Canada™ boot is perfectly suited for extremely rough terrain; the kinds of places hunters go to find trophy sheep, elk and mule deer. A GORE-TEX® bootie makes it 100% waterproof, yet breathes to allow water vapor to escape. 200-gram Thinsulate™ insulation insulates without the loft or bulk associated with other types of insulation. Meindl's Super-Grip sole, with its built-in shock absorber system, makes walking on rocks and rough terrain seem like you're walking on pillows. Heavily waxed, one piece leather uppers withstand immense punishment and are extremely water-resistant. This boot features a glove-soft, padded collar that encases the ankle and lower calf area in support and comfort. Perforated polyurethane footbed covered with Cambrelle® further insulates the foot from cold and absorbs impact. The rock guard just above the sole protects the leather from rocks and brush that often damage other hunting boots. These boots have a rigid sole, similar to the best heavy duty mountaineering boots, but with the support and protection of 11" boots. If you demand the very best in footwear, these are for you. cabela's Meindl Canada Boots, November 10, 2007
By stringgrabber from Watertown, MN

"Best boots ever made for hunting from wet sloughs to rocky mountains. My feet used to get sore with the other major brands when hunting uneven terrain and always a little wet. No other boot that I've owned performs to the Meindl standard. I've owned this pair for three seasons. If you only spend a few days afield or hunt out of your truck, you can get by with the $150.00 or less pairs of boots that are sold. If you depend on your boots day in and day out for demanding hikes, Meindl's are the only boots I'd recommend to anyone. This is my second pair. My other boots are hikers. Their still in great shape and they must have 8 seasons on them. If they get a squeak, it's because the leather is a little dry between the tongue and the shoe lace tab, apply some shoe wax, and they'll be quiet again."

Canada insole failure, June 23, 2009
By Ohiobearhunter from Cincinnati, OH

"These were the best boots I had ever worn and in fact I bought six pairs over the last fifteen years. I loved the suport they give in the ankle lock area and they are very comfortable.

In the last two weeks however the insoles on two pairs of the newer ones I have failed. The foam midsole separated from the vibram sole about half way up the side of the insole. This had not occured on older pairs with much more wear and I still have them although the heels are worn down.

I agree with the prior reviews if you are going to use them a lot and wear them out in a 2-3 years they are probably okay but given their cost I think you should be able to wear them until they wear out versus fall apart.

I thought I had found a boot I could count on but now I will have to start looking again

think rocks, January 13, 2009

"My boot of choice for chukar hunting on lava rock mountains for 15 years. They provide great ankle support and the uppers can take the beating I dish out on all day on the rocks. The sole lugs usually wear off first after 3-4 years of hunting. FYI, nothing eats up boots like chukar hunting."

another sole failure, December 25, 2008
By schltxhunter

"This boot was really comfortable, in fact I bought a second pair a half size larger after receiving the first pair as a gift about 8 years ago. I only wore the boots a couple of weeks a year when hunting, and kept them clean. Unfortunately the midsole on both pairs failed within 3 months of each other. The foam midsole separated from the vibram sole while I was hunting and the foam came off the bottom of the boot in chunks. The vibram sole on both pair of boots was still in really good condition with very little visible wear.

The first pair failed in Texas on a whitetail hunt, the second pair failed on a mountain in Arizona on the second day of an elk hunt. After the first pair failed I made sure I had backups for the elk hunt, I wound up finishing the hunt in a pair of "box" store pacs I bought 20 years ago for 7 dollars on clearance. They did fine, but didn't have the ankle support of the meindl's. I don't know if the midsole separation is just a problem with this model or not, but I don't think I will be spending big bucks on a pair of boots with glued on soles again.

If you are planning on wearing these enough to wear them out in 5 years or so they would be great boots, if you are planning on having a pair of high quality boots for 20 years you should look elsewhere. Additionally, there isn't any way to resole these so when they come apart that's it. I was disappointed in the longevity of these boots after how much they cost and the limited amount of wear I got out of them.

15 years and counting, December 10, 2008
By Steven44305 from Akron, Ohio

"I have never written a review on these boots but I hope Cabela's will post this one. I bought my pair of Canada Hunting boots from Cabela's over 15 years ago to take on some tough mule deer and antelope hunting I was doing in Wyoming. They were fantastic then, and still worn today. I would always say that you couldn't twist your ankle in these boots even if you tried. That is a true statement. The support is in a class by itself. When you put the boots on they become part of you. Always amazing to me they go on and off with ease, but when laced up, you feel very confident to handle any terrain. My particular pair is very worn out today..hehe.. but even though, they still don't leak and my feet have never gotten wet in over 15 years. The insulation has broken down a little now so not so good in the cold, but I still use them for my early season deer hunting to handle the steep terrain I hunt. I will be buying a new pair next year, and Cabela's, if you like to see a pic of my old pair, I'll send it. Thanks for the great boots to you and Meindl."

Canada Hunting Boots by Meindl, December 8, 2008
By bricklayerbrent from Eugene, Oregon

"I bought my first pair of these boots in 1994. I wore them strictly for hunting and cold wet "Duck Football Games"
This first pair of boots went on annual Elk Hunting trips, occasional deer hunting trips and many pheasant hunting trips. They are one of the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. They do not get to hot on 75 degree days or even in the snow to cold to be comfortable. Finally after 14 years pheasant hunting in South Dakota this year the bottom soles came unglued. The shoe smith wanted $ 70 to put on new ones but I opted to just buy a new pair. The gore-tex liners never leaked in the 14 years.

This boot is the easiest boot to get in and out of with the hinge system it has.

I called Cabelas and ordered the same boots and the agent looked the first pair up and found the exact size from that invoice 14 years ago.

I cant wait to take this new pair hunting next year.

Seperating Sole, November 12, 2008
By Anonymous from Wisconsin

"Be warned:

Your boots will seperate from the sole!

I have had this type of boot for about 10 years. I used them for hunting and when the weather turns extreme. Total days used was about 2 weeks out of a year. Not much use. Recently I went to put them on and by the time I made it to my truck, the sole started to separate from the boot. The foam between the upper, and sole started to crumble. I just returned from a well respected cobbler and he informed me that it was nothing I did. He sees about half a dozen a day like these. I thought it was caused by a chemical deteriation from ice melt. He said if I had left them in the box for ten years unused, the result would be the same. That explains why some of the "new" boots fail after a shorter period of time. If you use your boots constantly such a a guide, or logger, then I would recommend these. If your a casual hunter or outdoorsman, then DO NOT BUY THESE BOOTS! Yours too will seperate.

Meindl Boots, September 29, 2008
By cubuff86 from Boulder, Colorado

"I ordered the boots in my normal size but when they arrived I found them to be too big. I dont wear really thick socks, though. I returned them to exchange for a smaller size which arrived promptly. The boots, upon initial inspection, appeared to be EXTREMELY well made with immense attention to detail. I have friends who warned me to take plenty of time to break in the boots prior to hunting in them. I've now had them for about 2 weeks and have put several miles on them and am happy to say they are breaking in nicely. I leave for hunting in western Colorado in 8 days and I'll update when I get back. Rating for now: excellent!
My previous boots were Rocky's which I wore for a few years until a few weeks ago while dove hunting when the rubber completely fell off of the boots. Gone. I was walking on the padding alone. Won't be buying those boots again!

Best boots...period., September 8, 2008
By LiverEater from Colorado

"I didn't review these boots when I first purchased them...which was over two years ago. This is the best pair of boots I have ever owned. They are a bit like ski boots when you first get them, but after about 3 days, they fit YOUR foot like nothing else. I've owned a number of different boots, including Danner, Rocky, etc. and none of them even come close to this pair of boots. I recommend Meindl boots to every person I talk to about boots - no questions asked. I'll never buy another brand of boots again."

Excellent, but don't fold the tops down, August 26, 2008
By FredinBoise

"Have "touchy" feet and getting boots to fit are a problem. On second pair. Whether hot or cold, these boots keep my feet about the same temp. Have hunted in Iowa, WA, Idaho with these and feet never felt fatigued or had blisters.
11 inch height does give a different feel than 8 or even 10 inch boots. Not bad, just different--much more lower leg support.
Son had pair that he "bloused." That is he turned down the tops to tuck his pant legs into the boot. He would then flip the tops back up over the cuffs. After third time he did this, they started to squeek when he walked. Took boots to knowledgeable shoe repair who to us blousing caused the goretex to separate and it was now rubbing--hence the squeek. Likely would also have leaked.
Do anything to these and they will never fail--except just don't bend the tops down!

"I recently purchased these hunting boots. Simply put, they're great. They were extraordinarily comfortable the very first time I wore them. They provide great ankle support and have a superior lacing system. For those of you who have weak ankles or are proned to twist and ankle on tuff terrain, these are the boots for you. Highly recommended."

"I am really impressed with these boots. Getting ready to order my 3rd pair. Order 1/2 size smaller to accomadate streching. You can order a custom boot that will be made to your exact foot for 4X the money and maybe get slightly more use out of them. As far as comfort they are at the top along side of some custom boot makers! For the avarage DIY working man hunter they dont come any better! Thanks for the great product!"

"I wear my Meindl boots everyday. I am a Forester in SW Pennsylvania, therefore I am out in all types of weather conditions everyday. These boots have outstanding ankle support and are very comfortable. For what I put them through these boots will outlast any other boot I have ever tried. Although they are a bit pricey they are worth every penny."
