"The elkskin insulated chopper mitts are totally unsatisfactory from a size standpoint. I ordered X-large and they were nowhere near the correct size. X-large does not mean x-large. I also found the insulation to be skimpy."

Just too small,

"I have been wearing thinsulate lined chopper mitts since I moved to Vermont 25 years ago. Recently, the only place I have been able to find this product is at Cabela's, and I bought 2 pair 2 years ago, which were great. This lot, however, is cut way too small, the size XL did not fit my hands, and the product had to be returned. The gloves are a great product, but the sizing is completely off. I was very dissatisfied."

"The mittens were exactly as described, pictured and excactly what we wanted. Instead of a 21 week backorder they were delivered within 9 days. The thinsulate lining keeps my Dad's hands warm in the New England winter. The elkskin covering is attractive and fairly water-proof. We had been searching for mittens like these for 2 years now and are kicking ourselves that we didn't try Cabela's on line before we did. Even searching the East Hartford store didn't inspire us. Then we got desperate and tried on-line at Cabelas. It was easy and direct, purchasing went smoothly. Excellent product and good customer service."

"These mittens are terrific for all forms of camping and hiking. In the summer, they can be used for handling hot pots. In the winter they are warm, especially good for winter backpacking.
They are a recommendation of our Boy Scout troop, and most of our scouts have them as part of their gear."

"It may not be fair to give these such a low rating but I bought for my son who had elkskin gloves before and used them on a rope tow. The ones we purchased here were wrecked within two wearings on the rope tow. just not sturdy enough"

"I bought the largest possible mitts based on reviews read here. I am glad I did. These Mitts are GREAT, keep the hands warm even in the coldest of outdoors weather while shoveling snow, the hands remained warm and comfy."

"I had a pair of uninsulated choppers for years - they were a favorite - they stay pliable after repeated soakings. These add some great insulation so there better.
One improvement I suggest - they are too short leaving a nice gap with my parka to let ice and snow in..."

"I don't like gloves,and I don't like mittens with a trigger finger.I like a mit that goes on and off easy because I shoot bare handed. When I put the mits back on,ELK SKIN MITTENS rewarm my hands in no time at all."

"The quality of the elkskin chopper mitts was excellent. The leather was very supple and had a good feel to it. However the size scale used to measure for ordering was way off. My hand measured just 1/8th inch over the medium size. I ordered large. When they came in I could just barely pull the mitts on. I sent them back for an exchange for xl's ( which did come quickly) but even those were not comfortable. My brother has smaller hands than I do and they fit him perfectly so he has them and says that they keep him quite warm. Again the quality was great but use caution about the size."
