Good Overall Blind,November 16, 2009
By PeteGfrom Canton, GA
"The Ameristep Dog House Blind is light weight, easy to set up and fairly priced.
I have two of them and like to use them on rainy days or if there is no place the hang a tree stand. They are roomy enough to be comfortable but not to big and noticeable.
The zippers and Velcro are loud so I recommend not messing around with them once you are set up.
Taking the blind down and folding it up is tricky. I recommend viewing the video on the Ameristep website."

Ameristep Doghouse Blind,October 20, 2009
By jeff1237from Seattle, Wa
"What a great unit! Please read other reviews as they will tell you how to set this up as the directions are not very good and the video was NOT in the box. Having said that - I just used this in the Cascades and it was rainy and windy with gusts up to 45MPH. I had this properly put together and staked down. I was warm and dry (a little propane heater does wonders) in 35 degree weather. Hold it away from you when you release it as it kind of explodes into place. The poles are easy, but look for the pole pockets on the inside of the blind. They are canvas mesh and are halfway up the blind. The stakes are easy. I'm a really big guy and I had lots of room. Getting in and out is easy. PRACTICE FOLDING THIS UP BEFORE YOU ARE IN THE FIELD. I stunk at it at first, but with practice I got better at it. I can put it up in 10 minutes and put it back in the pack in 12 minutes. This would NEVER happened without practice!"

Doghouse Blind,October 20, 2009
By MarylandHunter
"I have had this blind for several years, and I love it. I use this blind for gun hunting, mostly muzzleloader. I can get in it and keep the windows only slightly opened until deer are spotted. I bought an orange cap for it, to be more visible when gun hunting. I have used it in all kinds of weather, and I put my small propane heater in it for the real cold days. Not well suited for bow, but great in my opinion, for gun hunting. Very quick and easy to set up and take down. You have to be smart enough to know that it's going to need to be sprayed with waterproof (Camp Dry) before using in the rain."

Money for Nothing,October 19, 2009
By mk9905from Northwest Wisconsin
"Last year I purchased a Ameristep Brickhouse Blind and put it up in early October for bowhunting. I went back a week later and found it smashed to pieces 40 yards from where I had placed it on a side-hill. The wind had torn it apart. I called the company to ask them about this and they said you need to be sure you put up the high wind stakes or else the blind becomes like a sail when it is windy. I asked why their instructions did not talk about this (all the instructions warned you about was fire hazards). They did not have an answer for that. I decided to give it another try because obviously I had screwed up by not putting the extra high wind tie downs up. I bought a Ameristep Doghouse this time and put it up a couple of weeks ago. Went back to it on Saturday to hunt and found it destroyed again!! Even though I had staked it down with everything the company provided, plus extra tent stakes of my own, the wind still tore it up. The fabric literally ripped apart in certain places and once again multiple support poles were snapped. So I have spent over $250 on blinds that I never hunted in even once!!
My question is, what good is a blind that you can't put up in advance (so deer can get used to it), if you are afraid that it will be destroyed by wind? If I could give these things zero stars I would - I will never ever buy a another hunting blind."

Ameristep® Doghouse Blind with High-Back Stool,September 30, 2009
By lhm3vtfrom Vermont
"The blind works well for concealment and room for movement for one hunter & gear. It isn't too difficult to carry or setup and teardown. This is the third such blind I have owned and works well for the price. The one common problem I have had with all three of them is the zipper wears out where it makes the turn at the bottom. The chair is handy and easy to carry but becomes uncomfortable after four or more hours sitting in it."

Review 11 for Ameristep® Doghouse Blind with High-Back Stool
"I bought this blind to hunt where I can't get tree stands, and hunt spooked deer and turkeys. This blind is decent to bowhunt out of. However, if you have a large draw length, you may have to draw back and let your elbow stick out the rear window to get you there. The windows are low, and you will need to shoot and practice out of this blind before hunting out of it. You will be in a different position when shooting your bow. For gun hunting, this blind would be very easy to hunt out of. I sprayed water repellent all over to keep water out when raining and it works well. It may be too small for two adults, but would work o.k. with an adult and a child. For the money you can't go wrong. But be sure to practice out of before. Your shot will depend on it."

Love it!!,September 10, 2009
By RobNJ74from Millville, NJ
"It's a little bigger than I had expected, but that's a great thing! So here's the deal, I purchased this for bow hunting due to a physical problem with my knees that prevents me from climbing trees. I have plenty of room to draw my bow and comfortably position myself anyway I see fit in this blind with room to spare!
Me I'm 5'8" 150lbs and and have a 26 1/2" draw.. If you are over 5'10" or have a draw length over 28" this will not serve you well and you will most likely hit the back wall at full draw unless you get creative. You gun hunters shouldn't have too many issues in here plenty of room. I would not suggest 2 bow hunter's in here it would be a little cramped. Now 2 gun hunters you could do fairly easily.
I've read a lot of complaints on the folding of this blind and honestly I don't see an issue, just goto the manufactores site and watch the video, it's honestly very easy to fold I had no issues at all.
Perspective buyers I would recommend a low sitting hunting chair/stool as the windows are a little low."

Ameristep Doghouse Blind,September 9, 2009
By PaulinPAfrom PA
"This is a pretty nice blind. Definitely need to waterproof, as there are quite a few tiny holes from the sewing. Camo is nice, like the leaf effect to break-up the outline. A lot of people complain about folding it back up - I didn't find it too hard. Here's the key - make sure you are folding the bottom over onto the top, and make sure that when you fold it to the ground, the frame in the part you are holding goes on top of, an below the frame of the part that's on the ground! Hope this helps! And no, there was no DVD included in the box."

Not for the bowhunter,August 2, 2009
By BigBuckFreakfrom Missouri
"Blinds are undoubtedly fun to hunt out of but the Ameristep Doghouse doesn't seem to have enough room for the bowhunter. The first time I shot a deer out of mine I struggled to draw back without hitting the roof of the blind. I obviously should have practiced out of it before taking a chance in the field. I have used it to take kids hunting, especially turkey hunting. The blind is so simple to set up and folds back up within seconds with practice (be sure to practice setting this blind up and folding it back up as it takes some time getting used to). The blind is quiet, durable and sheds water well. I would have to say it is a good blind other than thte lack of room for the bowhunter."

Easy set up, less easy take down,June 16, 2009
By knoopr55from Northridge, Ca
"Have not used this item in the field yet, bought it for my wife who cannot sit still while turkey hunting. Seems to be plenty of room and view. Sets up very fast but if you have to break down on the move it takes a while. You have to practice the reverse hand twist fold stick back in the bag many times. I think it will be perfect in the field with practice"

"hey, I really like this bind, it's so easy and fast to set up its ridiculous!!very cool how the windows open and can be adjusted perfectely with the extra tension cord.i did find it a little hard to pack back up until iread the instructions and packed it a couple of times, also very easy. my only issue, is the fabric overhead isn,t waterproof, only water resistant. maybe they make a rainfly? if so i'dlike one. definetly recommend to anyone!!!"

Ameristep Doghouse Blind,May 28, 2009
By Indianearfrom Providence Forge, VA
"This is not a $400.00 Blind, so although I felt that the workmanship in this blind was not up to my standards, a little leeway was needed. I had no problem setting it up, but did not understand the instructions on taking it down until I called and asked for the FREE DVD from Ameristep. It's really simple once you see it done! I set it up for the Spring Turkey Season for a week and one of the fiberglass poles broke. I Emailed Ameristep and they replaced both poles quickly without charge. I have nothing but praises for the Ameristep Company and their representatives. They went out of their way to accomodate me, even offering to replace the blind. For the money, you can't beat it. I was able to get my Turkey the second time I used it. Two Toms passed within 5 feet of the blind, looked in (the window was opened) and continued to the decoys. Only one left."
