"I was very pleased with this product. The deer & turkeys really love it. I planted a 1/4 ac plot 5 years ago...and it is still going strong. I had to apply ARREST once, during that time, to fend off some grass. Except for that it's been great. Just put in another 1/2 ac . plot,,which is coming in nicely."

"So far the germination was good and stand was above average. Deer would select this over some ladino stands and buck oats. I would possibly give it a 5 depending on how it tolerates the winter and how many years it lasts. Based on one calendar year this is a great mixture."

Alfa-Rack and Monster Mixed used in New Hampshire.,March 5, 2007

"In spring 2005 I began developing food plots on a small piece of property in NH. In an attempt to find which products would work the best I planted several small plots with different seeds. In one area of my property I planted a small plot of Alfa-Rack Plus, and a small plot of Tecomate Monster Mix. Both plots were of similar size and shape, and received roughly the same amount of sun light and rain. The Monster Mix plot received sun in the early mornings through most of the day, the Alfa-Rack plot received sun light from mid morning up until sun down. Although neither plot was particularly level, the Alfa-Rack plot was considerably more sloped. I actually chose to plant the Alfa-Rack on the sloped plot based on product advertising.
Both plots grew well in 2005, but the deer clearly preferred the Alfa-Rack actually walking through the Monster Mix to get to it. The deer didn't start feeding on the Monster Mix until the Alfa-Rack plot was essentially eaten to the ground. Despite the heavy grazing the Alfa-Rack recovered quickly and the deer continued to use the plot well into October.
In the spring of 2006 the Alfa-Rack came back, actually growing faster and thicker than in 2005. In particular the chicory grew considerably better the second year. By mid June of 2006 the Monster Mix just hadn't come back as strong, and I ended up replanting the Monster Mix plot with Alfa-Rack.
Once established the plots require little maintenance. I fertilize twice a season. I do have the distinct advantage of being able to irrigate these plots during dry spells in the summer. That's typically not a big problem in NH, as it's rare to encounter drought conditions in this region. It's worth mentioning that these plots were not previously used for agriculture, this land was cleared of standing timber in the fall of 2004. There was an extensive amount of soil prep required to establish these plots. Considering the land went from forest to food plot in about 7 months I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the Alfa-Rack became established."
