"Many cheap compasses are water filled instead of oil. Where I live, it has to be oil because many times in the field the temp will be below freezing. This compass is simple, rugged and no frills, hence a good price. I have three. The first, I purchased about 10 years ago. I gave my first two to my kids when they started being interested in the woods. The last one is mine."

"Clear, readable compass. It has already gotten me out of the woods several times. I use it in conjunction with my Garmin GPS 72. You cannot depend on a GPS, alone. The lanyard string that comes with it is too small. I use a neck strap from an old camera. I never go anywhere in the woods without a compass & this one will keep you pointed in the right direction."
