not very sturdy,

"do not use this as a walking stick, it is very unstable and will break very easily. also do not put any weight on it. i went to newfoundland moose hunting, and i put it down to stable myself in the rain and it broke right in half. i am planning on buying a more sturdy one to use as a walking stick."

Cabela's gunpod,
July 6, 2009
By AussieChas
from Sydney - Australia
|
"I have owned two of the Cabela's gunpod over the past 12 months, I have done a lot of hunting with it almost weekly during that time. I have found this item a handy tool, it is light to carry and compact to pack away. I have found that I need to hold the front end of the rifle and the pod at the same time to keep it as steady as possible, a more gun friendly u or v shaped rest would be handier, also, I had to purchase a second one as the top clip cracked during use on the first which meant I couldn't use it in a standing position. Having said that its a great item for the price and thats why I bought a second."

Handy friend,
December 23, 2008
By 63Redbeard
from Utica, Michigan
|
"This gunpod is light weight, strong and sturdy. Unlike pods with two or three legs, I have found one to be prefererable. On uneven ground it is quicker to stand a pod on one leg than two or three. It can also double as a walking stick if needed........"

"its ok. Generally you purchase a Gunpod so you have stability when you are shooting, the problem with this setup is, the lateral movement is too much. A Bipod would have been a much better purchase. Its sitting in the closet.....not being used."

Cabelagunpod,
November 18, 2008
By Elkslayeral
from Coos Bay, Oregon
|
"Case of both plus features and minus. The quick release on extension is a real plus, very easy to get leg extended and locked. The rest however would be much better if it were V notched. I found the flat rest allowed for more opportunity for my rifle to move than a V notched style would."

Gunpod,
November 3, 2008
By lcmcrev
from New Mexico

"Good gunpod for the price. Not as steady as a two stick system, of course, but good enough if you want a single stick that extends enough even for tall hunters. This is NOT a good walking stick combo. Use it only to steady your long shots, but not for walking/hiking."

GUNPOD,
October 29, 2008
By warhorse
from I LIVE IN SOUTHWEST COLORADO AND LOVE TO ELK HUNT.
|
"I FOUND THIS GUNPOD TO BE VERY LIGHTWEIGHT AND STURDY. IT GAVE ME THE EXTRA SUPPORT TO DOWN A VERY NICE 6 X 6 THIS LAST OCTOBER. WITHOUT THE GUNPOD I WOULD HAVE HAD TO TAKE A RISKY OFF HAND SHOT WITHOUT ANY SUPPORT. WITH THE GUNPOD I WAS ABLE TO TAKE A VERY STEADY DELIBERATE SHOT AND DOWNED THE ELK WERE IT STOOD. I WOULD CERTAINLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE."

Gunpod,
October 28, 2008
By criball
from Abilene, TX
|
"The Cabelas gun pod is a nice, lightweight gunpod. I use it for a hiking stick as well as a gunpod, and it is very stable, provided I do not put a lot of weight on it. I can fit it in my backpack and use it whenever I need it. It takes up very little room and is extremely lightweight. If you put a lot of weight on it, it will slide together, but not a big deal. The ability to adjust your shooting height quickly is definitely an advantage in the field."
