"I haven't actually got to shoot my rifle yet since I did this conversion a few days ago, however, I am very optimistic. I gave this item 4 stars because the installation isn't quite as easy as the directions make it seem. I did ruin one bolt body because the directions said to cut it so that the bolt shank was 3/16" in length. That was way too short and the bolt would not come close to the very inside of the bolt handle. So, I just chopped my original body to 3/8". I don't know if there was a typo on ATI's end. After I did that, the bushing had to be pressed onto the bolt stub and then the handle could be set in place, marked, and then the hole drilled. That was a very easy process. The hole was going to be almost on the edge of the bolt base, so I slightly angled the drill bit inwards. I had NO problem using the supplied bits and tap with the bolt and the receiver. Make sure you drill completely through to the inside of the bolt body! I had to do some filing on the ATI bolt handle and on the receiver where the bolt closes. It would not close. After I removed metal, it closed very nicely. The scope mount I had done on a mill. I have the hex receiver and that seemed to make the process a whole lot easier. After setting it all up and clamping it, the mill did a nice job on both holes, again, using the supplied bits. The holes were tapped with the supplied tap. I could have probably done the scope mount with a regular hand drill, but I had a friend with a mill and that seemed to be the best option. I put Uncle Mike's Gun-Tite on all screws and everything seems very sturdy. To the guy that gave it a 1 because his bolt was "case hardened" that's a problem on the gun's end, not ATI's fault."

"This lovely little ATI scope mount / bolt handle kit is an absolute joke.
The bolt on my rifle was case hardened, forged and unbelievably hard. After breaking about 5 bits from several sets, so that I no longer have anything near size #21 and toasting the junk bits that came with the kit--I took the bolt to the shop. A carbide center drill on a mill couldn't even scratch the surface of this bolt before it started to chip. I then tried several other really hard bits I had and had zero luck cutting into the bolt. The handle ended up having to be welded on, because it was physically impossible to drill into the bolt! ATI, what kind of joke is this?
The receiver on the other hand, it was also incredibly hard steel, but did drill. Just took about 6 bits or so to do the job. I was also surprised the tap was even able to cut the thing.
As a kit, forget it.. if the scope mount wasn't aluminum, I would have welded that as well. Be warned, this isn't an all inclusive kit."

"the scope mount makes it easer to ajust your scope and bring it closer to you eye but the problem. ithe scope mount make it somewhat difficlt to load the bullets becase you had less room to monover but it was still worth it."

Most popular but not the best option,April 22, 2008

"This product is well priced but not as effective as I had hoped. I did not use the included bolt conversion. I read too many bad reviews concerning the attachment of the bolt by using a single bolt. I had my original bolt converted but it did not clear the ATI scope mount. I was required to trim the mount a little to make it all work. A long scope will work fine, anyting at or less than a 9x will mount too far forward and cause too much relief.
Better products do exist but at a significant cost increase. I wish there was another option where the scope was not mounted on the rear site, did not include a poorly designed bolt coversion and engineered enough room to clear welded bolt conversions.
ATI has the market on this so your stuck with this setup as it does not make much sense spending $$$'s with more expensive options."

"With this mount on my rifle I could not shoot a staddy pattern I was all over the target, even at 25 yards. I think that with just srews on the front end of the mount, that is not enough support to hold the scope from moving around. So I am having a peace of aluminum welded on the back end and another screw put in that to hold the mount more steady. I think that it will work just fine then. Also the bolt lever needs to have the big hole in it filled in with some two part Epaxy so the lever does not come lose and move around."

"The mount was good quality. It allows for a variety of optics to mount on a Mosin Nagant rifle. However, it takes a bit of skill to mount the scope mount to the gun and it doesn't allow you to use the iron sights once it is mounted."
