This is the finest quality, easiest-to-use finish on the
market. The formula is the exact one used by the
largest manufacturer in the U.S. of custom and factory
rods. It is water clear, flexible, self leveling, has a super
tough gloss finish and does not yellow with age or get
brittle as epoxy finishes do. Each package contains .13
oz., which is enough to finish most regular size rods
with one coat. No chance for error in mixing. Just snip
off the end of the package, squeeze out the finish, mix
thoroughly and apply. Available:

Not Perfect,August 18, 2009
By SeaProPetefrom Va resident by way of Ct and Fla, fishing addict
"I've been using this stuff since........well, for quite a while. I'm completely satisfied with it after learning a few tricks on mixing and rod wrapping (mix on a piece of plexiglas with a straightedge, let the bubbles rise out, put the finish on heavy and QUICKLY start the rod in the drying rotater) but I still wish the large containers of this stuff lasted longer. I sometimes have too little finish, and way too much if I'm repairing only one eye."

Rod Finish,July 29, 2009
By Longrodmefrom White Mountains, Arizona
"The small packages work well for me as I generally wrap ultra lights and small weight fly rods, but not in production quaqntities. Less mess and an easy clean up for one rod at a time."

"I have built several rods and the rod finish packets work great for me; no waste and the small packets are easy to store. I have had bulk packages go bad before I could use all of it."

two part rod finish,December 16, 2008
By Handcraftersfrom Montrose, Colorado
"I have been building custom rods since 1980 and have always had my choice of finishes for rods. I have tries many kinds and they just did not offer the results that I was looking for. I bought a Cabalas rod building kit to build a less expensive rod for a present and used the finish that came with the kit, I was impressed with the results and ordered a package of 24 to have on hand. I have used it this Christmas season to build several rods and it works great again and again. One of the best things is the packaging that works great when mixiing, one package does a 5-6 ft. rod with ease and with 2 packages a larger rod is done in no time, the finish is smooth and even. Thank you Cabalas."

Cabela's Two-Part Professional Rod Finish,December 1, 2008
By Shortsyfrom Marthas Vineyard (East Coast)
"2nd review today; there is enough 'finish' for coating the 'wraps' of one '10 guide' spinning rod or in fact, the final coat of 3, 2 1/2oz wood bass lures. And never have to feel "sticky" (because of a flawed mixture). Its easy; for a mix of equal parts. Because of the simple construction of each single packet, it is not necessary to be measuring the exact portions of epoxy resin and hardener. I fold the packet, once, and with kindergarten scissors cut off one end of the packet. Lastly, I squeeze the contents into my mixing cup. Slowly stir, stir...stir for 3 minutes, thats all. Easy!

mix carefully,December 1, 2008
By salmonfishermanfrom MA
"I suggest the two parts to be mixed very very carefully and for at least two minutes (watch the clock) until the mixture is clear. If not, the finish will not cure properly. Once cured properly it provides a great finish."

Cabela's Two Part Rod Finish,March 25, 2008
By PolishBobfrom Portage, PA
"I've been building fishing rods, as a hobby, for 25 years. This is the best finish by far. I've tried several others and Cabela s is the best whether using a rod dryer of turning every 10 or 15 minutes by hand."

Fail-proof product,February 7, 2008
By Baywatcherfrom New York, NY
"Nobody fails to mix 2-part finish with this product. I tried this product and 2oz bottles with syringes to compare. Most of time I didn't need any more than one package. And the quality of finish seems no less than U-40 dura gloss, although I can not tell how the finish would look like a year from now. I'm gonna keep using this product for at least a while. By the way I felt this finish had medium viscosity."

NO BUBBLES,January 29, 2008
By RDS607from Portland, OR
"Have used Cabela's rod finish to protect the wrappings of fly rods that I've built for over twenty years. I'm sure the material has been improved over the past few years since it goes on very easy, leaves clean edges, and doesn't suffer from the formation of bubbles during stirring or application. It also dries without the formation of bumps or lumps. I strongly recommend it to anyone building their own fly rods since it is so easy to use and provides excellent results."

Rod finish,October 1, 2007
By NeilVfrom Annapolis, MD
"It was my first time, I'm not sure what I expected, but what a finish. Finish was glass clear, thick and otherwise more than I expected. Mixing the two part system was completely easy which I did expect. I learned that it is worth tying guides tightly, and do your first finishing on a repair. Next time may be perfect. Great product!"

Finding a good rod finish,September 17, 2007
By dockwatcherfrom Ca
"I think that U-Bond is a little easier to use and it can produce a lighter rod. Unfortunately it has a tendency to weld the top shut on the bottle. Cabalas Two-Part bailed me out when my Rod Bond turned to Jello.
Cabalas two-part rod finish produces fantastic results. Thats the plus. The minus is it's two part. The packet makes a lot so be sure to use a large enough mixing surface (it will try to escape when your not looking). Don't try to mix just a little, the proportions need to be exact so just use the whole packet. You might as well do all the guides on the rod at the same time. Try tacking everything down with a little color lock until your ready to paint. If you use U-40 keep some of this stuff around for emergencies."
