"Nice replacement grip, better than original grip. Was 1/2" shorter than expected though and had to cut 1/2" off the butt end of the blank."

cork grip gripes,January 18, 2008
By Bloodystumpfrom Redford Michigan
"I have been using Cabala's cork grips for 30 years. I like the shape of the rear grips, they have a slight contour, other companies rear grips are straight and not very attractive. Over the years the quality of the cork used in the grips has declined and the shape has varied a little. The price has more than doubled. However, the batch of grips I ordered in Dec, 07 seems to be better quality than it has been in the last few years. My only gripe with the rear grips for spinning rods is that the end for the butt cap is always under cut and requires the diameter to be built up and lengthened in order to fit a butt cap. This takes a lot of time to do properly. I also use a lot of the 3 7/8 inch fore grips. their shape varies a little from year to year but over all do a fine job. My only gripe with them is the precut center hold is too large. On many poles I build with the longer foregrip, I have to shim the grip and this makes centering a challenge. It would be nice if they were made with a smaller hole. Over all I would say this is a good product and is as good as or better than other cork grips from other suppliers."

"Good quality, dense cork grips. Very few pitts or blemishes. Easily worked to the blank and very good quality. Could stand a little more chamfer on the ends but this is easily applied with paper."

Good cork,August 15, 2007

"Cabela's cork handles may be a little more expensive but they are well worth it. I regularly buy rod components from Cabelas and 2 other suppliers. Without a doubt, these cork handles are superior to any other I have purchasd."

Freshwater Cork Grips,April 20, 2007

"Virtually all replacement cork grips are sold with a hole drilled lengthwise through the grip that is too small to accomodate most rod blanks. This is done so the hole can be enlarged to fit the dimensions of any rod. You simply ream the hole with a small round file until you acheive the exact dimensions of your rod. I have done this project many times. It's easy and it gives you a tight custom fit. Cabella's cork handles are of excellent quality."

"The cork grip was ordered to replace a grip on a spinning rod. I was unable to determine from the online catalog, the inside diameter of the grip. Unfortunately I am unable to use the grip on the intended rod."
