"The catalog description of this item does not say that a "rod chuck" does not come with the kit. So, when it arrived it was unusable until I could get my hands on a rod chuck."

"I received my new rod wrapper yesterday. Built my first rod with it today. Everything that comes with the kit is great, EXCEPT for the finishing motor. The motor is useless without the chuck (Which is not included). The kit should either come with the chuck, or the entire motor should be left out of the kit. That is the only complaint I have of this product........."

"First time buying a rod building kit. Directions to set up the kit were very hard to see from the picture directions. Did not tell you how to put together the tension for the tread. I had to figure it out on my own. It's not rocket science, but clearer pictures and directions would be a great help"

"The hole for the thread holder is about one half the size of the pin of the holder. You cann't install the holder. The rod rest for the rod dryer is bent at about 45 degrees in stead of 90 degrees it needs to be. Very poor quality made out of paper instead of wood. I am thinking of sending the whole mess back."

"The whole kit is very well put together and functions fine except the drying motor that is without the rod holder chuck. If I were needing to get a premium set I would expect to pay a little more and get the rod holder chuck than have to wrestle with masking tape and attempt to tape the rod to the little shaft of the drying motor only to have the rod fall off sometime in the night and the finish get screwed up. My only complaint is the rod chuck should be included even if it means adding a bit to the price. Perhaps you could offer it as an option but one that is readily seen as a plus thing to have. As for the wrapping machine it is excellent. I was turning out some fine wraps by the second rod and frankly my partner has another wrapper by another company and other than it has two tensioners it is basically the same thing."

"Kit is incomplete (Gold pen not included)
Rod wrapper is good: Simple and effective
Rod drying motor and stand is worthless
no chuck to hold the rod to the motor, so I built one
not as easy as It sounds
First of all home stores does not have plastic screws to secure the rod to the 2" end cap. So a bought metal ones and put some tape on the rod to protect it. It was not quite right Rod would not spin good on its cen.... any ways it was a waste of time especially with Salmon/Steelhead season around the corner. (Bought pac bay turner $75 Nice rubber chuck +faster)
The Dvd was just a pitch for ****coat supplies Just type in "how to build a graphite rod" in A search engine and you have more information in the first five hits that in the entire DVD.

If Cabelas got rid of the DVD, and included the Pac Bay rod turner I would have rated this Kit a 5, even if it was 40 dollars more."

"After a short assembly time it was clear the rod wrapper set was made of very simple parts that I could have made for a lot less money. Additionally, the pegs on the bottom of the upright partitions, that actually support the rod, did not match the pre-drilled holes in the base. These pegs are expected to fail in the near future. Drawing "B" is less than adequate because the arrows describing the direction of rotation are unclear and the "Velcro Loop Tension Strap" only funtions to keep the rod in place when the rod is misbalanced. "Tension" is misleading word.
The rotating set, used to apply liquids, was equaly disappointing because the wooden bases were provided unfinished, no rod chuck was included, and it was nothing I couldn't have made or purchased myself.
All this adds up to a lack of quality for the money spent."

"Overall it was a good purchase. The rod building station is very flexible and the tools are a great addition. Wrapped my first rod with it and it worked out very well. The only problem I have with this kit is the drying motor is too slow. It only turns about 4 RPM. This is not fast enough for the thread coating and it starts to droop. I would recommend the kit without the drying motor. If it wasn't for the drying motor I would give this product a 5 star."

"As someone who never built a fishing rod from parts before, this kit has everything I needed to get started. As I get further along, the equipment won't need to be upgraded because it gets the job done as is. All I need do will be to add more gear to the basic kit. Nice."

"this set is sweet. all the tools you need in one box. i had it on back-order for over a month, glad i waited. yes, the cork reamers are a little big (but workable), just takes a little more time. no rod chuck, no problem. made my own with PVC and a few screws and a couple bolts (about $2.50), works perfect. just finished my first rod, looks like i've been doing for years. the info on the video is worth $100 so you're getting everything else for free."
