Cabela's IM7 rod blank,July 29, 2009

"I fly fish more than a man ought to...I have more fly rods than a man ought to have... from very, very expensive to moderately expensive. For my fishing and casting style the rod I made from this blank will compare to the much more expensive blanks. I don't believe you will go wrong with this blank."

IM7 7ft 3wt Fly Rod,November 15, 2007
By bluegill49from Chesapeake, VA
"I originally purchased the 7ft 3wt blank to make a spin/fly rod. I ended up making it as fly rod, outfitted with single foot snake guides and a cigar grip with integral cork reel seat and slip rings. After completion I used the Common Cent System to measure the intrinsic power of the rod and came up with an effective rod number (ERN) of 4.31 and an action angle (AA) of 63. The ERN indicates the blank I have would actually make a better 4wt rod, and the AA indicates it is a moderate/fast action blank. When I first tried it, the lightest fly line I had was a Scientific Angles WF5F. With a 5wt line the rod loads and casts effortlessly. Balanced with a Shakespeare 1094 reel, it feels light in hand and has a crisp feeling casting stroke. It will probably do well with a Rio Gold WF4F line also. But for now I’ll continue to use the 5wt line, and look forward to using it for panfish in the spring."

Cabela's IM7 Fly Rod Blanks,June 13, 2007
By PolishBobfrom Portage, PA
"I began building fishing rods in 1981 when introduced to Cabela's magazine. Since, with several hundred under my belt, Cabela's still offers the best product for the money. This rod is perfect for my brother-in-law. He said it's the best trout rod he ever fished with!"
