"Long before downriggers made the scene, lead core was the established trolling method for getting deep. I have found Cabelas to be one of the few stores to carry this product in varying lb. tests. I almost use lead core exclusively for trolling off my planer boards in the spring and fall. Varying in color lenghts usually 2 to 4 colors back. My only complaint with lead core is that you have to check the line and knots for frays and tears. Other than that, it has produced very well for me. I store my line on a Shimano mouching reel as opposed to a standard level wind reel, as the larger diameter spool helps in dispensing the line and reducing kinks."

"I was very disappointed with the 17 lb. test lead core line that I received three days before going on vacation and trolling for stripers. You could tie a simple loop knot in the line and break it with your hands. I have been using lead core line for 15 years and never experienced any problems. The good news, Cabelas replaced my 2- 100 yards of lead core with one 200 yards of 27 lb test and I had no problems. The 27 lb test line was not that must larger than the 17 lb. line, so there was no problem with it fitting on my reel."

"First off, everone needs to know that the lead core is the same diameter for both 18 and 27 lb test line but the eighteen has a smaller outside diameter due to less covering. That said, 18lb sinks FASTER so unless you are fishing for tuna, use the smaller line. The line is color coded and behaves well but the core sometimes knots and will not fit through the level wind. I would recommend a wind on Spro 150 lb swivel and 5-20 feet of flourocarbon leader, all carried by Cabela's."

"I put this lead core line on a pair of Depthmaster reels with great results, the clincher was adding the HydroTroll II to my outboard motor. My hook ups went through the roof the first time I used it. All the while I'm thinking, a product that does what it promises. I should write Cabela ads.
