"This will save you a lot of time if you have a single stage press and simple reloading tools. It isn't clear in the ad, though, that it requires purchasing special Lee shellholders. It sometimes wants to double prime so be carefull."

Handle Broke,
July 10, 2009
By Danno76
from Centerville, MN
|
"As others have said, they handle will likely break eventually. I think I primed about 500 rounds before mine broke. I did seem to have to use a lot of pressure to prime those rounds - a lot of them were new brass, and the primers seemed very, very difficult to get in."

Excellent Hand Primer,
June 22, 2009
By joell109
from Milledgeville, Ga
|
"I've used this Lee model primer for twenty yrs. The handle on my old one broke; its made of cast metal, but i've exerted too much pressure on it many times over the years.
I've primed thousands of rifle & hand gun cases with this model primer without problems; its very sensitive and allows you to "feel" the primer being seated.
The new primer is virtually identical to my older one. There's really nothing to improve. For me , this is the perfect hand primer and I never considered anything else."

"I have used the old lee years ago. recently bought a Lyman t-mag to start reloading again. NOT as good as the old one, but what is these days? Works much better than the primers that come with the presses. I woiuld only reccomend using the LEE shell holders, my new RCBS dont fit without a little grinding!!"

"I used to to seat primers in 10 .30-06 shells before the handle broke at the base. This tool is simply not built heavy duty enough to be used for real reloading."

"I was using the primer on my RCBS press when I needed a part for it, instead I got the Lee hand primer and there is really no comparison in the speed that the Lee has over using the manual set up on the RCBS. For the price you can't afford not to have one."

Disappointed,
March 24, 2009
By rickh606
from Ovilla, TX
|
"I have used the Lee auto primer for about 20 years. And was totally satisfied with its eas of use and I have loaded thousands of rounds with it. Recently the handle broke on my old one, so I immediately ordered me a new one. When it arrived I quickly opened it up and started using it. It was just like my old one, with one exception. The handle snapped off after about 50 rounds. Looking at the handle after it broke it is made from "pot metal" and appears to have had a defect. I have since tried the RCBS auto primer and although it is differnent and took some getting used to, it appears to be a sturdier design and hopefully will last me several years."

adequate...gets the job done,
October 29, 2008
By Faber112
from huntsville alabama
|
"My RCBS hand tool was an old model which a friend gave to me and it finally wore out. It was an earlier model where you had to load the primers one by one.
The Lee tool seems adequate but I wish I had spent the extra money and bought the new RCBS tool. The Lee tool doesn't seem as well constructed and it doesn't have the mechanical leverage as my old RCBS tool had and takes considerable more effort to seat the primer. I also experienced problems with the primers getting flipped over in the holding tray. Two cases had the primers seated upside down and there were several more that got flipped in the tray but I caught the mistake before seating them. I could actually prime a box of shells faster with my old RCBS than I could with the auto feeder.
All in all, it isn't a bad tool, but I do have some questions as to its durablility, but for the price that I paid I am not disappointed."
