"I bought two of these and tried them out at Truman Lake in Warsaw, Mo and caught a 12 lb Hybrid Bass and 10 lb Blue Catfish.I caught many other lgood fish. I fish at least 1-2 times a week. This rod handle big fish great. I bought them when they were a combo. I gave my brother one who is in TX . He thought the rod was great and the way it telescopics down. I purchased the 12 ft rod. The rod eyelets came loose but reglued two of them with the rod glue and are now excellent. I plan on getting two more."

Bigwater Telescopic rod,
March 22, 2009
By SPIFisherman
from I live and fish in Iowa also fish in Canada.

"I used the Cabela's Bigwater telescopic M/H 14 ft. rod on South Padre Island, TX with good results. It gave me the ability to cast the extra distance to get to the area where the fish were. I cast a 3 oz weight with a double hook and shrimp bait. The rod handled the weight without any problem. When hooking up with a big fish the rod handled it even with big bunches of weeds on the line. The only drawback is with a 14 ft. rod is the flexability when walking out in the surf the rod may flex and the line will tangle around the end of the pole. The best part is the rod telescopes down from 14 ft. to less than 43 inches for travel. It has a holster that goes over the tip to protect the guides and keep the pole from extending. I would like to find a Cabela's telescopic M/H 14 ft. intercast surf rod. That would eliminate the line tangle over the end of the rod. I have a 9 ft. 2 piece intercast surf rod that serves me well. The 14 ft. would give me the extra casting distance that I need. SPI Fisherman"

Also Good for Carp fishing,
January 17, 2009
By Mobeen

"I purchased 2 of these rods for Carp Fishing; I was very disappointed when I received those rods as their tips where very hard and thick as compared to my other telescopic rods. However I was really surprised when I used them as, their throw was quite impressing. There is only one drawback and that is their weight and packed length but if you compare them with price then its OK
Keep fishing(Mobeen)"

12 Foot Telescopic Rod,

"I am very happy with this rod. I bought it for "The One" catfish out of the TN river. So far I've only been able to muster up a 24 pounder with it but of course the rod did exactly what it was bought for and landed the fish. I still want to see it perform on the 100 pounder though."

14' Bigwater,
March 28, 2008
By cliffjumper2
from Vancouver Island
|
"I highly recomend this one if you want a compact, long, durable surf rod to just have handy, or to keep set up ready to stick in the car and walk throught the bush to the beach..
It does everything you want it to do. 3 oz weights are pretty much the effective max for casting. At 3+ oz, it's pretty soft.
It's 4 star due to packability and durability. If it was composite and not all glass, it would be 5 star, as it would cast better and have greater sensitivity. Finish quality is moderate.
It is a must-have for spontaneous surfers and a genuine value.
I would not part with mine.
Cheers!"

"I received my rod in 4 days and was able to try it out at the outer banks North Carolina. I needed a rod that I could transport in a small space and this rod worked out great. I did some surf fishing and it was fast and easy to set up and I found no defects and the rod is well built and rugged."

Tough Rod,
July 8, 2007
By pdfromwv
from Martinsburg, WV
|
"I got the 14' version. Is a well made telescoping rod with reasonable weight. Would be nice to have a twist locking mechanism to hold the extended portions in their extended position (they rely on friction to hold them extended). However, if you pull them hard out when you extend them they rarely retract on their own."

A fine rod, with a word of caution...,
March 16, 2007
By IrishRogue
from Seattle, WA
|
"Overall I had a nice experience with the rod. Bought it for a trip to Mexico where I wanted to do some surf fishing. It was a fine rod, well made (certainly for the price) with one big surprise for me -- it's far longer than I'd hoped when collapsed. Maybe I should have figured that out from the descriptions, but I assumed that a 'telescopic' rod would pack into my large duffel bag. Wrong. You should think of this as sort of short-walking-stick length. I carried it on (airport security has no problem with fishing poles) and stuffed into overhead bins w/o any difficulty. One pleasant surprise was the included guard for the eyes on the rod -- worked great and I carried the rod without other protection (tube/etc) on my trip. No concerns.
Would have been 5 stars if it'd fit in my duffel bag."

Disappointed,
March 15, 2007
By Wannafish
|
"I have purchased other telescopic rods from Cabelas and have been very happy. I have to say this rod was a real disappointment. I liked the size, quality and general feel of the rod. The problem I have with the rod is the size of the guides. I purchased the rod as a spinning rod. The size of the guides restrict the line coming off my spinning reel. Therefore I can not cast as far with this 15' rod as I can with my 9' rod. That is bad."
