"I Like the wide gap on the hook it helps bring the hookup from 65% to about 75% But the wire used to make the hook is to thin We have not lost a fish yet with hook straightening out but we have come close after landing the fish the hook is so bent up it can't be used again!"

Non-offset Circle hooks - wide gap,September 10, 2008

"I am very pleased with these hooks.
When I heard that NY Regulations were in the possible offing requiring use of non-offset circle hooks during striped bass spawning season next year, I kind of panicked, because the regulations were - and are - expected to apply to all species. I fish almost exclusively year-round in the Hudson for carp and channel catfish, catch & release.
I checked around, and thought I'd put some to the test in the interim, rather than just worry. As it turned out, my hook-ups on carp and catfish were as good or better than "J" hooks. All hook-ups were in the mouth.
These hooks are non-offset, so they fit the regulation specification. The packs are decaled "Tournament Approved". They are very sharp, and have a wide gap - so they meet the fisherman specification too.
Very reasonable price for what you get too - $11 or so for pack of 50."

"Overall a great product at a great price. I use them for Striped Bass fishing in the Hudson River. The angle of the point makes it a little challenging to hook live herring without killing them but I had great luck with hook sets. Probably would be even better snelled. I will use them again next season."

"In order to catch the hugh Santee Cooper (SC) catfish, we needed a strong hook. To be able to maximize our release capabilities with the larger fish, and to help avoid some of the snags while drifting, we wanted a cicle hook. I looked for the best possible hook at the most reasonable price that would match our needs since I am a guide on Santee Cooper lakes. The Eagle Claw Octopus Circle 6\0 and 8\0 hooks proved to be the winners. The octopus wide feature enables cusomers to "jerK" back on the rod (after a few initial winds to take up any stretch in the line, if using monfilament) which is actual not an acceptable practice with a true circle hook. Used properly, these hooks are some of the best for our type of catfishing on the market."
