Breakaway Cannon Casting Aid,June 16, 2009
By JAXKfrom Jacksonville, FL
"The Breakaway Cannon Casting Aid is excellent. I have had the opportunity to use the Breakaway Cannon Casting Aid for about 2 years. It is well built and durable. It makes casting a surf rod with a spinning reel with lures very easy. No more tape and finger cuts. When I surf cast lures, I always use the Cannon Casting Aid. In my opinion, one of the best fishing inventions in the past 30 years. I get better distance and accuracy with the Breakaway Cannon Casting Aid. I attach it to my surf rod with electrical tape. I cast lures from 1 to 2 3/8 ounce, using 30 lb to 50 lb braid line... works well. I have no interest in the company that makes the product. It is money well spent. The Breakaway Cannon Casting Aid makes the fishing trip more enjoyalbe. Kudos to Cabela's for supplying the product to fishermen."

Need more!,June 9, 2009
By Fishdv8from Oregon Coastal water
"I have only one complaint about this little device... it does not come in a smaller size for lighter freshwater gear. The smooth action of the release allows for precision casting with minimal "hang-up" if any. Many times braided lines 'catch' on my finger during the release, not much, but just enough to cause the line to unspool slightly later than planned. It would be nice to have a smaller version available for Steelhead and Salmon fishing. I am buying a couple more of these Fishon! ><(((({*>"

Neat device,March 30, 2009
By Mikey285from Florida east coast
"Just got three of these to use surf fishing. I've been learning to do the off-the-ground cast for more distance and have been using power-pro braid for several years. My index finger has been suffering from abrasions and cuts due to heavy loading during a cast. The Cannon release has solved the problem. Now I can work on accuracy. It's a neat deal."

Works great for surf fishing!,January 4, 2009
By PadreIslandFishingfrom New Mexico
"This casting aid worked great on my first surf fishing trip to Padre Island. The casting aid allowed me to fully load the rod for longer casts without fear of cutting fingers on the braided line. My only regret was not buying another one for my other long rod. Casts on the rod without the aid were significantly shorter. I will be buying a second casting aid for my other long rod."

big help,October 27, 2008
By apr42
"For anyone surf casting for any length of time, especially if you use thin braided line, the Cannon is terrific. No need to use bandaids or other forms of protection to keep from finger cuts, and the release is very smooth. I bought one and came back for a second."

Breakaway Cannon ROCKS!!!,October 12, 2008
By Hiltonheaderfrom North Augusta, South Carolina
"Surf casting is all about technique as well as having confidence in your skills and your equipment. This tiny little apparatus helps all these elements align. Nothing used to distract me more than knowing that each cast was going to result in my hand getting whipped, and even sliced by my fishing line. Even on my first trip to the beach I thought to myself: Someone should invent some sort of quick-release, like bow hunters use. The Breakaway Cannon is exactly that, and it gives you one less thing to worry about, thus allowing you to focus on your technique without being afraid of your equipment and what it might do to you. There's also another interesting aside (especially for newbie surf casters like me): Because you don't feel the line tension as you cast (because the Cannon holds the line) you're more apt to put the necessary power behind it because you don't feel like you're going to snap the line (even thought you probably won't, if you're using the right rod/shockleader/weight configuration). I used to ease up on my casts because I was just sure I was going to snap the line. The Cannon is simple, well-built, and well designed. It's also intuitive to use. If you've used an open-faced reel before, the technique is exactly the same when using the Cannon;instead of your finger holding the line, it holds the "trigger." Other customers may have given the Cannon poor marks only because it didn't come with any sort of mechanism for attaching it to your rod. Two words: HOSE CLAMPS! Perfect! The lack of attaching devices is a non-issue that is far surpassed by the benefit if this product. I'm standing by my 5-star rating because the Breakaway Cannon hits on what's important. Forget the gloves, taped fingers, or anything else that surf casters use to try to protect their hands/fingers from that wicked line whipping. Get a Breakaway Cannon and go fishing!"

great finger saver,July 22, 2008
By Bill1956from MASSACHUSETTS
"I am now using the Breakaway cannon on all 4 of my big surf rods. I find it a great help in throwing heavy bait rigs or plugs to get the extra distance from each cast. The best part is no more sore index finger from the extra stress of the big baits. Once you try one you will be hooked. I cannot imagine tossing heavy baits without one."

Found it, Bought it, Used it, Fantastic!!!,April 21, 2008
By jno45from Former NY now Largo, Fl
"Searched the web looking for a casting aid that would hold the line off my finger during casting. I found the Breakaway Cannon Casting Aid on the Cabelas web site and couldn't be happier. I recently contracted a temporary neurological problem that caused the skin on my hands to sluff off. There went the calouses and I was left with "sissy hands." You can't believe the pain in your finger when trying to cast a 4 oz lure. The casting aid has allowed me to continue to enjoy fishing."

Life (finger) Saver!,October 22, 2007
By SteveSSfrom Long Island, NY
"I read mixed reviews on this item and hesitated ordering. To say the least, I made the right decision getting one. When surfcasting, prior to using the casting cannon, my middle finger used to get sliced without fail at every outing. I tried wearing gloves but the line would also cut right through them. Obviously user error, but I couldn't break the habit. Then along came the Cannon. Yes, you have to use tape to hold it on ( I used electrical tape ) but I found it to be no big deal. I then took my rod on a trial run. I was thrilled to see how effortlessly the product worked. My lure flew out aggressively to the surf and I fished for almost two hours without the line touching my finger. What a pleasure! Caution: I did have two brand new 4oz lures break off, but I was only using 15lb line. The instructions did mention (but I didn't listen) that you should increase your line weight and / or shock leader to prevent breaks. Lesson learned. Anyway, to summarize, you MUST buy this product if you are havng the same issue I was. You will LOVE IT!!!"

casting cannon,September 27, 2007
By smallie53from Cincinnati, Ohio
"I used the breakaway cannon on a recent trip to South Carolina for surf fishing. Was very happy with it . NO cut fingers and much more confidence with loading up the rod for distance casts. It was much smaller than i thought it would be and not in the way when fighting fish or holding rod waiting for bites. Well worth the price."

MUST-HAVE ITEM,September 24, 2007
By MLBSRfrom Malibu, Ca.
"If you've been thinking about trying one of these, do it. It takes a bit of getting used-to, but when you do, you will never go back to a bare finger. This device is really only necessary for four ounces and up. But it really shines. You can lean into every cast, all day long, and get your bait out farther each time. I have one on a Daiwa 12' Sealine X rod. It's rated for 4 to 7 ounces, and It's perfect with 4. With the Cannon, I had to change my technique a little, but after two outings I am whipping it out there with ease. I actually modified my Cannon by taping a small nut to the underside of the trigger area. This keeps it out of the way when I'm reeling in, and it also leaves the trigger in the down position, so I don't have to move it to wrap the line around the capston. But any way you use it, you will soon find yourself improving your casting distance and enjoying you fishing day much more."

"Very simple design and looked like it would work good-WRONG. You had to tape it to rod and only would fit in awkward area where you would not get a good grip with your release hand. At the cost I thought the item would of been alot better designed. I would not recommend it to anyone. SENT BACK"

Breakaway Cannon Casting Aid,August 6, 2007
By ChuckLfrom Lakeland, Florida
"I only bought one of these not sure what I was going to get. Thank God I did. This product is a make shift aid. The directions state that you need to tape this device on your reel. What a waste. Save your money. You do not need the smooth casting or the extra length this bad. It makes even a novice unexperienced angler look like an idiot."
