Diawa SS`Tourn. 1300,February 5, 2009
By ripsarvfrom Saint Paul, MN
"I own three of these reels and just can't seem to want to upgrade to a fancier model with more bells and whistles. I asked a reel repairman in St. Paul what his favorite spinning reel was and hands down he picked the Diawa SS Tourn. He said they are simple and don't break."

one of the best reels for the buck,November 14, 2008
By bigfishermen31from long island surf
"I OWN ABOUT 15 OF THESE REELS FOR ABOUT 14 YEARS NOW. SIZES 1600 AND 2600. FOR THE MONEY YOU CANT BUY A BETTER REEL. THATS WHY DAIWA NEVER CHANGED IT. I USE THEM IN THE LONG ISLAND SURF WITHOUT EVER HAVING A PROBLEM. ONE OF THE BEST DRAG SYSTEMS EVER BUILT. BIG STRIPERS AND BLUES ARE NO PROBLEM FOR THESE REELS. BUY THESE REELS AND FIND OUT FOR YOURSELF. YOU WILL LOVE THE CASTING DISTANCE. GREAT REEL'S FOR THE MONEY."

my most durable reel,October 7, 2008
By glennsufrom mass
"i bought this reel because i've had such gook luck with my first one. i dropped it in a lake and it sat on the bottom for 2 weeks. i went back and found it and it operates flawlesly to this date. this reel is not the prettiest and not the smoothest. but i have not found a more durable reel. it is very worth the money."

My Favorite Reel,September 14, 2008
By Lookn4Tuna
"I've had this reel for 2 years now. I fish the West coast of Florida for Redfish, Trout, Snook, Sheepshead and more. this reel as others have said, may not be the smoothest reel on the market. But this thing casts further than any other reel I own and retrieves and wraps line perfectly. I have mine mounted to a Ugly Stik Intercoastal 6' 6" rod and tehy pair together perfectly. I conduct routine maintenance by washing it off and keeping it oiled after each trip, and have had no problems at all. The only gripe I have is when you grab the line and the bails spins backwards to the next stop, there is a stop that puts the pivoting part of the bail right over the reel support, so that the bail will not open fully. This is a minor gripe, but it happens quite often. they need to get rid of that one stop point inside the reel and it would be perfect! Yes I did give it five stars, because even though I have other reels, I always choose this one first. It's my favorite reel hands down. I wish extra spools didn't cost so much. I will be buying another reel soon to add to my collection, and it will be another SS."

Well made,June 23, 2008
By Lakers32from Pleasanton California
"This reel is very well made. It dose not have all the new high tech bells & bearings that the new reels come with......but it is built like a tank. I fish lot's of streams so I need a tuff reel and these reels hold up well. The only disadvantage is there is no extra spool included with the reel and they are kind of a pricey option."

Daiwa Tournament ss spinning reel,June 23, 2008
By bmt46from Lousiana Gulf Coast
"These reels remind me of the spinning reels of my youth which was long ago I regret to admit: They are unsophisticated in that they lack instant reverse and internal bail trip devices: The rotor is not finely balanced as is commom on modern spinning reels: That being said, these reels are essentially bulletproof. They require extremely little maintenance, they will function and do their job everytime without complaint, and they are exceptionally sturdy despite their light weight. If you can get by without a lot of modern day glitter and so-called mechanical innovations of modern spinning reels, these Daiwa Tournament SS spinning reels will serve you very well indeed. Said another way, you can depend upon these reels to work hard for you and not have to worry about things breaking. They will likely last longer than most of us will."

Old stuff,April 22, 2008
By Cirolamofrom Belgrade, Serbia
"I am a fan of old and proven designs. This is one of them. I am from Serbia and I use this reel for pike, zander and asp. The one thing which I don't particularly like about this reel is the lack of infinite reverse. However, I can live with that. This thing is rock solid and I am sure it will last forever. It is incredibly light, too."

1600 ss whisker series,March 25, 2008
By ZZ1959from Clayton, NC
"excellent reel fresh and salt water. I have had a 1300 for over ten years, works great and the drag is flawless and very smooth and have done nothing to it but wash it off. So, I bought the 1600 and put it on a 7' st croix med action with 20# power pro braid and can cast a 3/8 oz trout jig 60-75 yds!"

SS 1300 Logevity.,January 7, 2008
By RainbowSlayerfrom London, Ont.
"I recently purchased my second SS1300 spinning reel. My first reel was purchased 18 years ago and to this day still works like it was new. I was tired of switching it back and forth to different rods. I would highly reccomend this reel for any steelhead bottom bouncer or bass whacker for river fishing."

ss1300 spinning reel,October 8, 2007
By jjlc
"I own 10 spinning reels of this size with seven of them ss1300. I have strayed to othe more expensive reels and came right back to the ss1300. Four of my reels are 15 years old and I still use the often. I fish a lot. I have used them for everything, even saltwater. I have landed a 55lb catfish, a36lb striper, bass, smallmouth, redfish, and speakled trout on my 1300's. Dollar for dollar the best buy."

SS Reels,July 19, 2007
By mismalliefrom Grand Rapids, MI
"By far and away the best drag system of any spinning reel on the market. Superb reel for light line techniques in clear water. The reel also has a short mounting arm in comparison to other popular spinning reels which makes it excellent for casting small jigs or crankbaits with little effort in working the bail."

Daiwa 1300,July 2, 2007
By Silverbassmanfrom Lafayette, IN
"I own nine of these reels and as of yet, haven't found a reel to even compare to these for day-to-day hard use. For a reel under $100.00, they're unsurpassed in durability, cast length, smoothness of drag and ergonomically, nothing compares to these Daiwas!"

diawa ss drag system,June 20, 2007
By terrycaptmomscarfrom yakima wa. a young 60 fisherman.
"This is our second set of these great reels. I use these reels on down reagers set up for light spinning fishing at lake Roosevelt in Wa. state. We actualy wore our first set out about two years ago and have tryed three diffrent brands try ing to cut the cost a bit. WAST OF TIME AND MONEY! These reels have the best and most accurate drage setting system I have found. Each click of the drage is diffently noticable. Worth every bit of the miney."

By n2fishinfrom TN
"I have fished with the same SS1500's for the last 12 years. I have 3 of these reels and have never had any problem with them at all. They might not have all of the so called "bells and whistles", but I personnally know from experience, they will hold up under tough conditions."

Timeless Classic,December 25, 2006
By Sabres11from SASEBO NAVAL BASE , KYUSHU JAPAN
"There are numerous reels on the market today but this reel is tops. What it lacks in bells and whistles it more than makes up for in quality. This reel actually casts further, smoother and this reel lasts longer than every other reel that I own, many costing twice the price. Yes, there are fewer ball bearings in this reel but, these are high quality bearings which is far more important than the number of bearings. These reels are great for drop shot techniques for bass, crappie and northern pike, take care of this reel and it will last a lifetime. You don't need to spend a fortune to own a legend. I recommend this reel to anyone tired of buying a reel and only to find it is poorly made."
