"Half the battle in securing a trailer is to demonstrate to the would be thief that your trailer is secure. This wheel lock is painted with a good quality finish that is bright and easily noticed. The product mounts easily and is secured with a good locking mechanism. I bought three of these wheel locks and I have been happy with my purchase."

TRAILER KEEPER NOT BAD,
September 29, 2008
By FENCER

"The trailer wheel lock is ok, do not like the method of attaching to the wheel. To attach the item, you have to remove a lug nut and place a small metal plate and re-install the lug nut. This throws the wheel out of alignment if you leave the metal plate on while towing the trailer. Otherwise, you have to remove the lug nut and metal plate."

Trailer Lock -- nice equipment,
June 23, 2008
By hamj

"We purchased this lock after some research in order to secure our jetski trailer in the garage. Installation simple, altho initially a bit confusing--at first. Once I saw that the bracket that secures the lock arm itself is bolted onto the trailer wheel, and that it stays on, piece of cake. Nicely designed."

Built well, good price, needs a slight improvement,
May 27, 2008

"Overall all the wheel lock is made well and very strudy materials. The weak spot is the lock they supply with it. The single pin is milled down at one point and IMO could break with some aggressive prying. I added a strong commercial grade lock with a 7/16 hasp. Had to drill one of the holes a bit larger but it works well - use the supplied lock as a back up in another hole. Should deter theft vs not having one. Would buy another and refer to others."

Trailer Keeper, seems good!,
January 16, 2008
By Brian230

"I just installed this on my 92 Shorelandr boat trailer with 13 inch wheels.
Until I build a shed, my boat is stored outside year-round. I was disappointed with the product's website in that it did not detail how the product worked, just said that it was to keep your trailer from being stolen. I was skeptical until reading the reviews on Cabela's website. I thought I'd take a chance, and found that it fit my wheels very well, and was super simple to install. It only took minutes to put on my trailer, and after installing it, I tried to see how easy it would be to take it off. If someone was very determined, it may be possible with the right and specific tool, but it does make it more difficult and I think it would take a long time to remove the lug nut to get the device off. Other than a "saws all" or a very specific type of wrench set-ups, with the right angles, I don't see how removal would be easy without a key. I don't know of any device that makes theft completely impossible.
I work in law enforcement and in my experience almost all of the thefts and burglaries I have been involved in investigating, occurred to unlocked homes, cars with keys in them, and trailers with no type of theft deterrent. The only ones that had locked doors were businesses. Most thieves are opportunistic.
My only gripe is to the company that manufactures this, they could put better close-up pictures on their website and more detailed info on how the product works. Cabelas could also do the same on this site. The lack of detail almost prevented me from buying this."

Great Product...it stops wheel removal too,
June 7, 2007
By tn222

"I've had my Trailer Keeper now for about 2 months and I use Trailer Keeper every day in my business. It works on my 15 inch wheels just great and I have 205/75/R15 tires. That's a fairly big tire and wheel. They say it works on 15 inch wheels and it does. I've had no problem leaving the lug bracket on my wheel all the time. I never remove it and it does not cause a problem with the wheel balance. It's so close to the center of the wheel it doesn't bother the balance at all. It takes me less than a minute to install Trailer Keeper. If I need the bracket to be in a different spot on the wheel, I take a few seconds to hop in my truck and move the trailer a little before I un hitch and that rolls the wheel bracket right where I need it. It's a lot better than a coupler lock in my book and it keeps a thief from removing the wheel that it's on too. I looked at other wheel locks and with most of those other ones a thief can just take the wheel off and he's got your trailer. Great product...I highly recommend it!"

"This item is extremely difficult to use. You have to move the "lug nut" piece everytime to get it into a locking position. It is not a "quick use" item. Once you get it in the right position it functions fine. It just takes more time than it looks."

"i found the product works but if you are always moving your trailer around it is hard to always line up the little u bolt on the wheel to put the bar and lock back on. it also seems a little flimsy but nothing is steal proof i guess. i have another brand and paid about 120 for it but it is more like a police boot (much heavier) and easier to put on and off. but overall if you don't pull a lot it is a good buy and way better product for anti theft device than a tong lock."

Hard on, Easy Off Wheel lock,
April 4, 2007
By jrw45
from Allentown, PA

"Did not work for me. I tried it on my boat trailer. The back part of the claw had to be forced against the springLeaf to fit. With the lock in place. I was able to repeatly moved the long part of the Arm up and down, the arm was long enough to gain leverage which allowed the lug to become lose enough so I could easiey slip the pin out of the bracket (the part held in place by the wheel lug). With the pin out of the bracket I could easliy remove the whole lock. No key necessary. I'm retuning for a refund."

Trailer Keeper,
January 4, 2007
By dougsch
from Fairbanks, Alaska
|
"I bought the Trailer Keeper wheel lock to help protect an enclosed cargo trailer that has 15-inch wheels. Despite being advertised as suitable for 15-inch wheels, the Trailer Keeper comes up short. Nothing I did could make it work. Buyer be aware that tires 15-inches or larger will not accept the Trailer Keeper.
As to construction, the fat metal bar that wraps around the tire seems beefy enough to thwart many thieves. That is until they spot the thin metal rod connecting the bar to the wheel lug-nut cover. A few seconds with a metal cutting recip saw or industrial-grade bolt cutter seem likely to get the Trailer Keeper off and allow your trailer to be stolen. Bad design, likely to be easily defeated. Not worth the money, in my opinion."
