    GT 320, October 8, 2009
    By Stonemanhd from Washington State

"I purchased my first Penn GT series reel in 1996 and have purchased three additional reels since that time. We have caught up to a 52 pound king salmon, 92 pound halibut and countless bottom fish. Easy to maintain and use. This is a reel at a price point that is one of the best values found in fishing equipment today."

Great reels for medium duty saltwater fishing., September 12, 2009
    By BIGGAB from Manheim, PA

"I bought these because of Penn's reputation for quality reels, these are no exception. I used them for two weeks the first outing with them and they worked flawlessly to land wahoo in excess of 4' perfectly in Florida. Absolutely recommended for this application."

    Great Reels, June 6, 2009
    By sportsman237 from Kansas

"I have the Penn 345. I have never had any problems with this reel and it has taken its fair share of beatings. From rolling around in the back of the pickup to dropping it on the rocks. This reel will handle anything you throw at it, including some monster fish!"

    Penn 320s and 310, January 12, 2009
    By CrispyCritter56 from Wasilla, AK

"I have used two 320s and one 310 for two fishing seasons in Alaska. They have seen extensive use catching salmon, halibut, lingcod, and rockfish. During that time they functioned flawlessly. They each offer a perfect retrieve ratio and smooth drag. Based on my experience, I was surprised to read other reviews that indicated some individuals had major problems with them. I would recommend these reels to anyone. I'm looking forward to purchasing a 330LD soon."

    Penn 330LD, August 5, 2008
By Rejuvenator from Long Island, NY

"My only complaint is that I need to use 2 hands to engage / disengage the clicker button. It is REALLY tight.

Other than that I am very satisfied with this reel. I have not been using it that long and I haven't connected with any lunkers yet, but the reel has performed well with the fish I've caught on it so far.

Drag System Smooth!, November 9, 2007
    By ArkLaTexMan from Texarkana, AR

"The Penn GTI reels have an excellent drag system. I use these reels for Arkansas stripers and halibut on the west cost of Canada. The 310 and 320 reel is recommended for stripers and I know the 330 will put a 202 lb halibut in the boat! We did hook one halibut that the GTI 330 could not handle."

    SETX Surf-fisher, September 18, 2007
    By MLHeflin

"I have several Penn GTI series reels, the first being the 330 gti purchased in 1996 and still being actively used today. That's 11 years of surf fishing at the beach being submerged totaly in the saltwater to being covered in sand. All I've ever done is rinse with fresh water after every use along with a squirt of oil and performed a light seasonal cleaning and lube.
I've never had to replace any parts! I now own a 310, 320, a 345 and hopefully very soon the new 330LD (lever drag). I am very happy with this Penn series of reels. My family and I have caught from large bull reds to jacks to 7 and 8' sharks and never had a problem bringing'em in with our Penns GTI's.

poor quality anti reverse, August 16, 2007
By proguide from west coast vancouver island BC canada

"these reels have a serious design flaw that penn needs to deal with .
the antireverse pin is molded into the outer housing and snaps the side of the reel causing the anti reverse mechanism to stop working entirely.
I destroyed 4 new reels in 2 weeks fishing salmon and although the drags are smooth and they perform ok... they are weak and cannot take 30 lb salmon.
if the handle suddenly starts spinning backwards check the side of the reel beneath the handle at about 5 oclock.... you will see where the pin has pushed thru the side from the inside .
    I'm really disapointed

Penn GT Levelwind Reels, July 16, 2007
    By GWBS from Polson, Montana

"I have three Penn GT reels. All have performed flawlessly. Numerous chinook have been taken with these reels in the 20-37 pound category. The reels operate smoothly and the drags are easily adjusted under strain.

I have great faith in these reels and feel that when I hook that 50 pound plus chinnok, my Penn reel will perform as well as it has in the past.

not for trolling..., June 15, 2007
    By Philak from Juneau, AK

"I purchased three 320s back in July of 2005. I primarily use the reels to troll for salmon in Alaska. Two of the reels were pretty much shot after one season of moderate use. The spindle that drives the levelwind failed on both reels, therefore making the levelwind stick to one side, not good. The drag system sticks on the same two reels. I take meticulous care of my equipment and back the drags when storing the reels for more than a few days. Oh yeah, the third reel still works fine, but I've only used it a few times. I have no doubt it will fail this season. I didn't expect these reels to last a lifetime, but thought I would get more than one season out of them. I will never purchase another Penn GT series."

    Penn 330 GTI, February 23, 2007
    By JackJack from Temple, TX

"I bought three of these reels about a month ago. For the price, quality and durability you can't find any better. Built like a tank!! Requires minimum maintenance. I use mine surf fishing. I paired them with a 12' casting rods. I can cast these babies about 70 yards with 40z pyramind sinker without a problem. What I like also about this reel was the spool tensioner. I was able to adjust the spool tension to the weight of the sinker and bait just like the way you adjust the lure with your bass fishing reel. Awesome!! I can heave my bait without worrying about backlashes. You still have to control the spool with your thumb but requires only minimal.

I don't think there's anything out there by the surf that this reel can't winched in even a 10' shark....

    Penn 330 LD, January 30, 2007
    By Nielky from Los Angeles

"I bought one on December 2006. Do not buy this reel. Piece of junk. Enginered for baby fishes. This is new product give more than ayear before buying one. By that time they will figure out something is wrong. I went fishing in Ensenada for deep water rock cod because of levelwind. first fishing trip was ok. Second time ,the levelwind froze and gear jamed. Waranty said gear broken and levelwind mechanism jamed. I always check my gear before going for a long trip. This is a case where copying other models on the same line up and converting to diferent mechanism never go hand in hand. It should be inside out and not release before testing it. A case of a truck with a car transmission."

    Penn GT Levelwind - 320 LD, November 22, 2006
By Bondo from Pawleys Island, SC

"This is a perfect reel for several types of fishing we (I) do here on the South Carolina coast.
It makes a great reel for slow trolling or trolley(pier) fishing for King Mackerel due to the ease of variability in drag and ability to go from free spool to set so quickly.
I also use it regularly for bottom fishing for grouper and snapper. The level wind retrieve allows all my focus to be on the fish and less on line issues.
Finally, I love to catch big redfish in the surf, and this may be the perfect reel. Redfish often require varied drag tension and this reel allows the fisherman to modify quickly as the fish requires.Additionally, the reel is strong enough to handle a fifty pound redfish with ease.
All these attributes combined with a reasonable price makes this reel a revolution in near shore fishing.

    PENN 345GT, November 21, 2006
By RedTide from Bay Minette, Alabama

"Super smooth reel with a stout drag and plenty of line capacity. Used it for King, Red Snapper, Grouper, Bull reds, Jack Crevalle, triple tail and Shark. I've drifted, trolled and bottom fished with this reel and have been completely satisfied. One of the best all around reels I own. Spooled with 150lb braid which is a fantastic bottom combo around structure since the reel has the power to winch anything out if the rod has the backbone. It's held up for all the abuse I put it thru fishing almost every weekend this summer with very little maintenance and the reel doesn't show it a bit. I'd definitely reccomend this reel to anyone looking to improve their saltwater arsenal."

Penn GT levelwind reel, November 20, 2006
By RCarey from San Leandro, CA

"I recently purchased my fourth Penn 330GT reel. I purchased my first almost 15 years ago from Cabela's. I have aquired all of my reels from Cabela's when my wife, and kids as they became old enough, started saltwater fishing with me. These reels have held up well and I even find it hard to tell my first reel from my fourth. They clean up easily after a day in saltwater and have been very dependable when catching salmon, sturgeon, rays, and sharks. The reels are easily adjustable for casting or just dropping your line over the side of the boat. They also have plenty of line capacity for the strong fish that want to run a long way."
