"I purchased the pliers for heavy duty split rings for saltwater use. I found that the pliers do not hold the ring well when trying to attach a large hook and I had to use a second set of pliers to complete the process. The under-jaw is not the same length as the hook-jaw; therefore, it does not allow a good hold on the ring.
I have smaller pliers that have both jaws the same length and it holds the ring very well; however, it is not big enough for the heavy split rings.
I do not find this set of pliers suitable for heavy split rings even though it has longer jaws and large handles."

"I have used cheap stamped out split ring pliers before and trust me when I say that "Your fingernails work better". Thankfully this is not the case with the cobra pliers. My only complaint is that Cabelas can't seem to keep them in stock for long. I had to wait through a month of back order and dull hooks on my crankbaits. Luckily it was winter."
