good idea - but, June 16, 2009
By OklaDude from Oklahoma

"The idea of a rod leash is good one. Everything works and you get what Cabelas advertise. The problem is not Cabelas or even the Rod Leash manufacture. I am using it on a inflatable pontoon boat and the thing gets in the way. I can use it when I am underway but when I stop to fish, I have to take it off of the rod. I guess I could recommend it."

A necessary evil that will pay for itself, October 6, 2008
By Rugerpup from Denver, CO

"I hate rod leashes, they get in the way of my cast, and they are one more thing to get organized for a trip out onto the water. Then I dropped my rod into 10 feet of water while sitting on my float tube, and Saw The Light. It paid for itself right then and there by saving my expensive Sage rod and/or a dive into some really cold water... both of which would have ruined a day of fishing. I said I'd never be that guy to drop stuff in the water... but never say 'never'. Buy this leash before your next trip."

Rod Sheesh, August 4, 2008
By Rescuediver from NH

"Purchased 2 of these for my predator kayak. 1 clip broke the first trip out. Unless your pretty clumsy in your kayak I wouldn't recommed pruchasing these. The rod holders in the kayak are sufficient."

heavy tether?, May 27, 2008
By Fishornot from BC, Canada

"Useful for heavier rods or to just tie to a lighter rod when not in use or on to other items, but the cord is to heavy for a fly rod if you wish to cast or even a spinning rod when casting.
Bought it for use on my pontoon but find it more of a hindrence than help. Perhaps a lighter teather cord model could be offered.

Don't lose valuable rod, May 9, 2008
By ORFishing from Oregon

"This inexpensive device does a good job of insuring that should you accidentally drop your rod while in your float tube or pontoon boat, you will not be kissing a significant investment goodbye. The nice thing about this tool is that it can be attached to a number of surfaces."

Rod Leash, March 31, 2008
By UKKayaker from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, UK

"A useful item but the velcro rod attachment and D-ring does tend to get in the way. The leash itself was a bit too long for my use but it was easy to cut it down and the spare shock cord was re-used elsewhere."

Rod Leash, September 12, 2007
By Rich1954 from Brunswick Ohio

"This leash is everything it is advertised to be. It is very easy to use and long enough that it does not interfere with casting. I would recommend it to anyone using a float tube or a pontoon boat"

Unsuitable for fly rods, August 9, 2007
By Fly2Fish from Houston (but wish I was in Rockies!)

"Although package display shows it attaching fly rods to float tubes, boats, docks, yourself while wading, etc., the rod velcro attachment with D-ring is sized too large to easily & comfortably fit on either my Sage 5 or 7 weight fly rods. Because the velcro & D-ring "footprint" is so wide, it will not fit in front of the fly reel as pictured without uncomfortably interfering with the grip. Neither will it fit behind the reel without easily sliding off the rod, even on my 7-wt. with a fighting butt. It could have had a narrower width of velcro & D-ring while still retaining its secure hold and have been workable, but there is no way to fix this shortcoming. I'm returning mine and will instead cobble something else up."

Saved Rod, Reel, and 24" Rainbow!, July 1, 2007
By BJFisherman from Pleasanton, CA

"After fishing for hours in near freezing weather I laid down my rod to put on some gloves. In an instant my rod and reel shot forward and into the lake. No problem, I grabbed my "Rod Leash", retrieved my fly rod and reel and then after 15 minutes netted a 24" Rainbow! A near disaster turned into a fantastic finish. I won't fish without it."

Rod Leash, June 13, 2007

"Very nice. The main reason for purchasing the Rod Leash was for my lead-core trolling rods. I have younger kids and do not want to lose a nice fish or the rods. Thanks"

Fumble Fingers, April 2, 2007
By SoCalDude from Southern California

"Great product! I fish from a float-tube and an inflatable Pontoon. I've dropped a rod & reel before while rigging it up on the water. Fortunately It fell close enough to retrieve. That episode sold me on some type of "retrieval system" in case it happened again. Enter the "Rod Leash". It's simple, well made, and affordable. Glad I found it!"
