"I almost purchased a composite skegg because is was less expensive and black matched my lower unit.
After reading several reviews that the other type fell off I paid a little more for this one.
It has been money well spent. It was easy to install, it looks great, it seems to be much stronger than the stock skegg and the performance and handling are fantastic.
(I own a 20ft Sea Ray Sport)"

"I recently installed a Skeggard on a 150 hp outboard. The Skeggard is tough and will take much more abuse than the aluminum skeg that it covers. It fit perfectly and looks great. The screws that came with the unit were easy to use and the loctite seems to have worked as it should. In my case, I had to try several combinations of the screws to get the right combination for each mounting hole, (and each hole uses as different combinatin of screws). Once that was done it was a simple matter of using the loctite and reinstalling them. This is a great looking addition to the motor that should work as well as it looks."

"I don't rate things often but this one product is a standout!! I broke my skeg off almost three inches from the bottom of the prop and didn't know what to do till I saw this product. I installed it and back on the water I went. It performed flawlessly!!! Its a keeper in my book!!!!!!

Skeggard fixing screws,

"The unit is excellent, my only negative is the fixing method. Once the screws have been tightened just for test fitting, they cannot be removed. I strongly recommend allen key fittings on the screw heads. I had to destroy the screws and fit my own lock nuts and bolts."

"I dinged up my skegg on my Mer. 225 HP outboard the first day I had the boat. I purchased the skeggard in lieu of having welded repair job.
Looks great now! Super easy installation.
One word of advise. Take the time to experiment with the fastners to be sure you have the right combination. The unit comes with a variety of barrel screws/ nuts to fit differing widths of skeg material. Mix and match until you have the right combo.
Hope this helps. It's well worth the expense!"

"I purchased this item from Cabela's and recieved it in just a few days. It seems to be a nice well made piece. I did install it with bolts and lock nuts that I purchased from a local hardware store instead of the mounting screws that came with it because I read some unfavorable reviews about those. It looks great on my Johnson 200 hp and I'm very satisfied with it."

"I placed this over the damaged area- 90 horse Merc. My Fisherman Lund was not tracking straight and was difficult to turn at speeds. After putting on the Skeggard on, the Lund tracks true and handles like it has power steering. Very pleased. My only problem is I am wondering if water will get trapped and over a period cause damage. Only time will tell. So far great."

Easy fix for a nasty break,

"This spring we took two of the Grand Kids to our annual Colorado river run.
We whacked some gravel and when I pulled the boat the out drives skeg was busted nearly completely off. What was left resembled a sharks tooth.
So when I came acrossed the two options to fix it, I dug into the Cabelas reviews by other folks with the same trouble.
I choose the stainless steel Skeggard over the plastic skeg repair.
It went on without a hitch and is bolted in place.
The other option would to have had the lower drive housing replaced.
Skeggard is a great fix for a nasty problem."

"I blew out my lower unit two years ago on my Optimax 225 and had it replaced. Low lake level here in GA and me not paying close enough attention cause me to hit an underwater "hump". Broke off the lower half of my skeg. I was sick! All I could see was $$$. Looking on Cabelas's web site, I found the Skeggard with good reviews. I bought it, easy to install and works great. Also looks great too! Saved me money and no fishing time lost with my boat in the shop. I highly recommend this product."

"I have a 1994 22.5' Open-Bow Commander I/O - Alpha 1, 350 Merc.
My skeg had a few battle wounds on it from Havasu, Lake Mead, Elsinore, etc.
I read the reviews on the Stainless Steel Skeggard Cabelas offered and decided it was what I needed. Like other reviewers said, it took about 20min total time to put the protector guard on to my chipped up skeg. Looks very cool with the stainless steel fin all nice and shiny. Though I didn't really notice an improvement in performance, there was not a lack of it either.
This is a good product / buy and I highly recommend it!
Ps. A few reviewers stated that they had slight problems with the self locking bolts/nuts - I had no problem at all. Like anything else in life, measure twice, cut only once :)"

"This makes my lower unit SHINE. Can I say looks awsome.
My only gripe is you have to fully tilt motor up, to drain water from skeggard. My boat is on a trailer and I store the motor down, this is a problem for me since I live up north and its freezing. Don't know what may happen if water freezes between skeg and skeggard."
